  1. Ah, that's good news. I was under the impression that it had to be a full regular season. Does this date also hold for the 2021 draft positions?
  2. well, a little humor anyway... to ease things.
  3. It's a good thing that Stanton is out and that Judge might be for one more (this one longer) set at Yankee Stadium. I say good because it might be a trifle less demoralizing... as in non-blowout losses.
  4. Yup, if we go 1-2 against our worse opponent and in our own ball park, the rest of the so-called season doesn't bode well. I was really hoping for a 3-0 start to get a bit of a hedge against the rest of the schedule, but no go.
  5. If true, then why would Betts not have to replay the final year of his contract next year with the Dodgers. No season, no service year. It would seem that this would be a reset year given the Sox made all the necessary cuts.
  6. Gotcha. But "a guy" ain't Chris Sale. He could probably get it done in one of denial states down south or in Idaho and Wyoming.
  7. I guess it was kind of a pipe dream to think professional sports could proceed by just emptying the arenas and ball parks. I mean were the players supposed to be invincible? or exist in a sealed off reality? Oh well, we do have the NFL free agency and draft which do not require actual players or games.
  8. Exactly, except that it even starts much earlier. This is also true in basketball, thus all the injured players, and the necessity of giving more and more days off to the stars.
  9. In college in Florida, he was 6'6" and weighed 165. So, he's fattened up, although I've heard that the 180 is a stretch.
  10. Maybe this is why Crane's press conference was able to so intransigent. In his mind, he didn't think he had to admit any particular guilt--at least none for himself (the big boss). And why he was ready to just move on.
  11. One of the downsides of being overpaid is loss of fan support. I've always been pro-Price as a pitcher and person, but I was absolutely opposed to signing him for that price, and therefore withdrew somewhat as a fan of his. I think you want to get your money, but too much almost always means under-performance and thus fans' displeasure or at least the disappointment of the less star-crossed fans.
  12. I thought it was mainly to manage a budget through player contract control, which is why we didn't want to lose a bunch of draft picks via the lux tax
  13. 2020 may have been a big year with Betts and Price, but I really think this team needs a break from big and long contracts that are invariably risky. Even with these two contracts gone, we're still going to be paying at least 40 million a year for 3 non-roster players. I mean Tampa Bay last year paid 52 million total. Maybe Bloom will be the answer to beating the huge gamble contracts that weigh teams down.
  14. I'm sure the Yanks hated this Mookie deal as much as Dodger fans went nuts over it. And it's amazing that both the media and the fan base thought that the addition of Price was a big plus.
  15. Many party goers are good at rant.
