Connor Wong and Jeter Downs are impressive prospects. They may help down the road or be put into another trade later to get players who can help this year or next. My guess is that Bloom will play the long game.

They are punting this year considering the rotation.

It's time to think about 2021 and beyond.

No way do I trade anyone to focus on winning just in 2020.

If it were up to me, and selling 2020 tickets wasn't an issue, I'd look to deal Workman and players I think have their stocks topped out: Barnes, Walden, Chavis & Duran. However, I'm not for handing any of these guys away. I'd want some talent who looks to be peaking in value between 2021 and 2024. (I know, easier said than done.)

Trading any of the above will have no affect on ticket sales.

True, I wrote that thinking I'd put JD on my list, but I'm thinking he won't be traded, except maybe to a desperate team at the deadline.

Fortunately for them, there is only 1 player in the whole organization that can affect ticket sales left, and he just re-signed (joking.....kinda)

Good Lord. Now I'm not only rooting for a SS who insisted on having Derek Jeter's number I also have to be rooting for a kid named Jeter. The indignity of it. :(

Oh well, Derek Jeter was named after Derek Sanderson.

I really want chavis to be given until July and yes I get he’s looked overmatched.Hes not worth much now anyway .Just think he may figure it out .

If you can't even hit middling FB's this late in a career then I don't know what there is for Chavis to figure out. Heck virtually all of us that played any sort of serous organized ball as everyday players can hit FB's to some extent. Chavis can only hit hung sliders right dow Main St and badly through Change ups. That is not much of a recommendation for a MLB hitter. I know Chavis is young in MLB terms. But it is way late for him to look that feeble against even middling FB's.

Xander and Devers are the team right now. Beni is second tier.

The kid isnt going to rake in the majors next season. He got in 12 games in AA. He’s likely ticketed back to AA with an outside chance to make it to AAA if he continues to rake. He’s got a chance to be a mid year call up in 2021

By next year, I meant 2021. Downs will spend 2020 in the minors and will be ready to rake in the majors in 2021.

Let's face it, the Red Sox called the Dodgers bluff and Dodgers caved in--they really want Mookie. The fact that the Dodgers added two quality prospects to the deal probably makes it certain that they will resign Betts, but that is OK -- I'm not sure if Betts is going to be worth such a huge investment anyway, at least not in the long term. Of course, acquiring the Twins pitcher made it easier for the Dodgers to trade two prospects to the Red Sox. The Dodgers could use that Twins guy -- the kid profiles as a dominant closer and Jansen has dropped off a little bit.

With or without Betts, the 2021 Red Sox (and beyond) will have a lineup that can win a championship. The bigger issue concerns whether the Red Sox can build a championship caliber pitching staff. But I suppose most teams face that challenge over the next few seasons....

Agreed; the Red Sox are punting on the 2020 season. They will hopefully make a couple of shrewd trades at the deadline this year, trading B.Workman does seem like a good idea, assuming he continues to excel. Maybe Barnes can have a big first half and the Red Sox can unload him. They might want to do the same thing to Evoladi, but he will need to have a stretch of sustained success.

Trading Workman, now, might make more sense.

Waiting for the deadline to trade Barnes (2 yrs left) probably makes more sense.

Wouldn't it be funny if David Price and Mookie Betts lead the Dodgers to a W.S. title over the Yankees.

Dodgers in 6 games. Mookie will be the MVP.

I'd love to see it.

I still wouldn’t watch.

I just don't see an AL team eliminating the Yankees this year. The Astros don't have Cole. The Red Sox aren't going for it. The Twins are the Twins. Who is left? The A's never beat the Yankees. The Yankees beat the crap out of the Rays last year. The one team that can shatter the Yankees dreams is the Dodgers. Moreover, the Dodgers have a strong farm system and can add another piece at the trade deadline.

I don't know who would even try to make the case that Downs and Wong fix our farm problem. But you have to start someplace. Its that bad as it stands right now. We need pitching in the minor league system as well. The whole farm as it stands today is a black hole. Part of the reason this trade is happening is that we really don't have enough players or any for that matter that can really play at a MLB level while making league minimum but one and that leads to two things:

- Teams rape you for even middling talent because they know you don't have players that can come up and actually play for league minimum

- you are left dealing with the certain knowledge that if all your players are making coin you have some crap underperforming contracts in there. It is virtually impossible in today's MLB to have all performing contracts. Heck you might be lucky these days to have 60% of them being performing contracts given injury, extended terms and the fact that every damned one of them is guaranteed.

We are in decent shape sort of for everyday player contracts other than the ones we have for players that don't play for us at all. Most of that has been washed through the system. We have a great budding star in Devers at league min. IMO Chatham and Dalbac will be up and playing whether they are ready or not this year unless we want to see more of Lin. They are really the best we have down there I think. But my word the amount of money we have in pitching and what we have to do to make that work!

I rarely watch any non-Sox games, but I might watch a game 6 or 7 of a WS with Betts vs the Yanks.

Maybe a clinching game.

I would not count out Houston. They were good before Cole, and they get some injured guys back and some young stars still on the incline of their careers.

The only way MN wins id if they never face NY in the playoffs.

TB and Oak could surprise.

I'm sure the Yanks hated this Mookie deal as much as Dodger fans went nuts over it. And it's amazing that both the media and the fan base thought that the addition of Price was a big plus.

My advice would be to never play chess or poker with Chain Bloom.

Huh. I did not know that! I learn something every day.

To paraphrase what I tell my kids, "If I hang around you and pay attention I may learn something." :)
