Fielding % just doesn't mean much to me. I rely more on what scouts are saying about where he will be.

If Dalbec bounces a throw to a 1b who picks it, no error. If the 1b picks it, error.

Give me your Scouts, SoxProspects? I got his Draft evaluation, where they say he is more suited to play 1st Base. Strong arm, very weak Glove, and slow feet.

Here's what soxprospects says...

Arm: Plus arm strength. Touched the mid-90s off the mound in college. Plenty of arm for third base, able to make all the throws including balls fielded on the foul line. Will have accuracy problems on occasion as throws can sail on him.

Field: Hands work well and footwork is usually reliable. A little stiff and has some trouble getting down on ground balls when charging the ball. Doesn’t have great range, but makes up for that somewhat with his length, allowing him to cover more ground than his feet would normally allow. Projects as an average defender at third base with the potential to be above-average.

I always think the most recent scouting report is the most relevant. Scouts often try to project these guys and it's never 100%. You can look at a guy, look at his size, his body type and movements and you can see that he may not only not be a great athlete but he could have the body type that can easily put on weight.

That's why it's easy to look at some guys and say "he's going to move to 3b" "he's going to move to 1b" etc etc. While I generally trust that consensus, at the end of the day, no one truly knows how these kids will develop. Sometimes guys work very hard to change their body and improve their athleticism and they just stick and improve where they are.

Can you say welcome to our minor league system, a nearly barren waste land! But on the bright side, the parent team is 50 games over .500.

Ps: If sale and Rodriguez return healthy, then the scorched earth policy that desperate dave has applied to our minor league system will be worth it because we will be world champions again!

The farm system is looking fairly decent if you want a 3B. The Sox have Chavis, who is on the cusp of MLB, although an unlikely star, and Dalbec, who is right behind him.

And in the majors, they have Devers, who is actually the youngest of the three. This might be the depth Dombrowski deals from, and it might actually be Devers he moves since he is most likely to get back an impact player (assuming DD thinks the Sox need one), and the Sox can clearly win without Rafael.

Or, more likely, he tries to move Chavis and/or Dalbec and the return of Devers is one the the already-in-place upgrades for 2018...

My heart couldn't take a Devers trade.

I still firmly believe Devers will be a great MLB player, even if he moves to 1B.

He is so damn young.

Tendler just turned 27 a few days ago.

The minor league Rule 5 draft pick leads Portland with 61 RBI, while his 14 home runs put him second.

And he's 27 years old and repeating Double AA again, this year for the Sox. Last year in 113 games in Double AA hit .245, with 13 HRS, and 49 RBI's, and repeated in the same League, different League, but Double AA, just the same.

Repeating is not good in the Minors.

No. I'm not expecting he ever reaches the majors.

Looks like Houck is shut down for season. Finished strong.

Greenville Drive still has a chance for Play-off spot, 2 games behind leaders, Lexington.

They really turned it around down there.

First half, 25-44 Second half 35-27. Good sign, lot of these kids are from Lowell, and DSL, and GCL kids.

Pawtucket, Portland, and Salem just about eliminated (1 loss and they are done) from any Play-offs. Just Greenville, need strong week.

Cuevas Ks 10 in 7 IP (1 BB), 5 hits and 2 ER. Lakins shuts 'em down for 2 IP, although he let up 3 hits.

Witte goes 4 for 5 with his 10 dinger for the Sea Dogs. ERod looked sharp in 4 IP.

Chatham goes 4 for 5. He's up to .324, now.

Weird game at Pawtucket tonight. Down 5-4 in the bottom of the ninth with Devers coming up.

They PH for him.

In other news, Travis went 3 for 3.

Haley 5 IP 1 ER (6K- 1BB)

Yeah when he comes back throw him out there to flail while a hot Nunez collects splinters.

That might suggest injury or, alternatively, maybe a lefty was on the mound? Devers can't hit lefties. That would still be a weird move--we are talking about a meaningless Triple A game.

When Devers returns, I seriously doubt he plays against lefties. Moreover, I could see Nunez taking over the starting 3b job in October. Devers makes too many errors at 3b and an error in a key playoff game could be the difference between winning and losing.

Chavis, Dalbec, and Devers all 3rd baseman, something got to give this Off Season. Even if you move one 1st, then you got Ockimey, and whoever moves there, so your getting a crap load at one position, that could be used to improve in other areas.

Seen Chavis, Ockimey, and Devers, neither one could go to another position, besides 1st base. Maybe Chavis to Outfield, but doubt it.

If Devers can improve his Defense at the Major League level, then somebody gets blocked, because he's so young. Dalbec to 1st, which is what I would do, then that gets blocked down the Road.

Trade has to be made, if Devers can improve.

Dalbec to 1st, Devers at 3rd, leaves Ockimey and Chavis outside looking in.

It depends on the trade value. Also, these 3B/1B prospects are not ranked very highly nationally. The chances that just one out of Dalbec, Chavis and Ockimey give us plus value at 3B or 1B is not all that great. We may want to keep all 3 to increase the chances that one succeeds. They all could turn out to be like Sam Travis or Wil Middlebrooks.

I doubt we make any major changes involving 3B or 1B this winter. We have Moreland for one more year and Devers with enormous potential to be a big plus at 3B or 1B (or DH). I think our depth at the corner IF positions is not all that great. It certainly is better than our OF prospect depth and maybe middle IF and catcher depth, but that doesn't mean we're so overloaded we can afford to trade one. 1B is a huge offensive position in MLB. We've come up a bit short at 1B for a few too many years of late, so I'm for holding onto all or them, unless someone gives us something better (maybe in a two-for-one type deal), but our farm is not our strength right now. In general, I'd like to hold onto the few with promise.
