Holt is not a great OF option. I don't think Swihart is here by the time Dalbec is ready. JD will probably opt out too. Also, just nice to have versatility.

Holt will probably always be a better defensive OF'er than Chavis can ever become.

Houck: Over last ten games: 3.36 ERA, 63 strikeouts, 19 walks in 56.1 IP

It was nice seeing him keep the BBs down last night.

That looks to be his biggest concern area.

And how does his bat compare to Chavis'?

Dalbec is probably more likely to succeed than Chavis. One of them should start shagging flies in LF.

I'm optimistic on both of them, power is a good tool to have. If anything else develops with it it's easy to carve out a MLB career. But I just can't get over Dalbecs K rate. You have to make contact for your power to be worth anything and if he's K'ng more than 33% of the time in the lower minors.

They're also the same age at the same level but Chavis has missed a bunch of time the last two seasons. He could easily be in the majors today or in Pawtucket knocking on the door if he didn't get suspended. Again, two good assets to have, Sox will be lucky and benefit greatly if one of them pans out. Chavis has a little bit of swing and miss in his game too, and I'm not sure he has the height to play fist base, which I'm sure is not uber important.

Ockimey's K rate is real bad too. 1 out 3 at bats a K, not good. That's a steady trend throughout his career. At least Chavis and Dalbec can hit HR's, Ockimey so-so with power at such a high rate of Strikeouts.

Ockimey is also a first base only profile. Funny, if he could play a plus SS, C, or CF, he'd probably be a top 100 prospect in all of baseball with his bat. It's good, but you almost need to be great if you're a first base only profile.

Ks would be okay, if he could keep up the .350+ OBP, but it usually doesn't work out that way with these high K prospects.

Here's a position by position look at how long are starters are under team control and the in-house prospects that could possibly become an in-house solution to the possible departures.

After...

2018

2B- Kinsler

--- (Pedey/Holt/Nunez/Hernandez/Quiroz)

1B/DH- Pearce

--- (Chavis/Dalbec/Ockimey/Travis)

2019

DH- JD Martinez (opt out)

--- (Chavis/Dalbec/Ockimey/Travis)

SS- Bogaerts

--- (Holt/Chatham)

1B- Moreland

--- (Chavis/Dalbec/Ockimey/Travis/Casas)

Utility- Holt & Utility- Nunez

--- (Hernandez, Quiroz/Chatham)

2020

RF- Betts

---(Decker/Duran/Brannen)

CF- JBJ

--- (Decker/Duran/Brannen)

--- (Swihart)

I am hoping the Sox promote Houck to Portland and give him 1 start up there. Remember a lot of these A+ Players, are promoted players from A Ball. Love to see him get a Cup of Coffee with tougher competition. Give him idea, what the next step is.

De La Guerra will be 26 in Nov. and still in Double AA, he was demoted this year from Pawtucket. So not much for me to see here anymore. Wish we Traded this guy for Pearce and kept Espinal. Edited by OH FOY!

Travis with his 8th tater today.

Kind of a let down for the season, right?

Some had high expectations for Travis this year.

To me, Ockimey has passed him.

Darwinzon Hernandez 6 IP 1 H 2 BB 0 ER 9 Ks

ERA down to 3.56

This kid is becoming a sleeper too. Last 10 games his ERA is 1.88, 52 innings, 39 hits, 74 K's. Walks a little high, 25 of them. He's also only allowed 1 HR the whole season, in 101 innings. Walks is his biggest problem.

I got my 2 Binkies for next year, 1 is Jarren Duran, and Alexander Montero. Saw both for Lowell, was impressed with both of them. Montero has a big league arm. He got hurt the night I saw him, and hasn't pitched again this year. Hope its not serious.

Dalbec committed his 3rd error in 9 games for Portland, 19 in 100 games for the season. .923 Fielding % this year. Devers has 21 in the Majors in 100 games so far this year, .929 Fielding % Edited by OH FOY!

Ockimey is struggling in Pawtucket hitting .188, last 10 games hitting .152 with 15K's in 33 AB's. He got 13 games left to try to cut his K's down, and end the season strong. Edited by OH FOY!

I hope he does well.

I'd be lying if I said I wanted him to do well.

Just because when a guy you trade away does well, a lot of people never stop moaning and groaning and bashing the GM about it.

Isn't that one thing this site is all about?

What ifs?

I doubt anyone ever moans about giving up prospects for Sale.
