Let’s be real…we have some good looking young starters in this organization, but we’re still a mediocre 500ish team. We would have to go over 600 the rest of the way to match last year, which wasn’t even 90 wins. We’re counting on too many 2nd year and 1st year guys. No leadership and a streaky offense. I don’t believe we are good enough this year to be a serious contender against the best teams. I get that the AL isn’t really competitive, but we’re not even serious contenders in a weak AL.

theres a few teams interested in Aroldis Chapman, and with a option for 27 that vests with 40ip we could possibly find that big bat we need.  we don’t have much pure power guys down there that have stood out besides the 6’6 270 lb young (19) and undeveloped Justin Gonzales.

Duran

Contreras

Gray

Are three more that immediately come to mind that could bring something back if they’re performing.

Chapman - decent value to trade

IKF - no value

Story - no value

Sandoval - no value

Coulombe - very little value

Oviedo - little value

Houck - little value

Looks right.

While Whitlock has club options for '27 and '28, he could be trade bait, too.

Whitlock too, yes. . I think him and Chapman will bring back the most in Deadline deal if Bres doesn’t mess it up.

If they trade Chapman, they need to keep Whitlock around. Doesn't make sense to deal both of them unless they are tanking for 3 years.

The thing is the Sox brass will never admit the rebuild will be more than 1-2 years, so maybe they see Whitlock as a key to 2028 or 2029.

I only see 2-3 players to protect: Garcia & Brannon- maybe Paez or Mullins.

Ward might be added this summer, after the sell-off opens some slots on the 40.

Odds of this not happening?

Good question:

7 if you start with 2020.

5 if you start with 2022 (playoffs in 2021)

4 if you thought we'd be good in 2022 because of 2021 and didn't need to rebuild.

Core Players

Crochet 5 yrs starting 2027

Anthony 7 yrs

Rafaela 5 yrs

Abreu 3 yrs

Narvaez 4 yrs

Durbin 5 yrs

Mayer 5 yrs

Early/Tolle 5 yrs

Everyone else can be traded, I hope Breslow learned something. Yes, we still need power.

Realistically, they didn't start the rebuild until '23. They held on too long and kept things going in '22. They should have had a complete fire sale at the start of that season and dealt off half the team.

It doesn't feel like Durbin is a core player. Maybe bench player?

Pretty much everyone you trade you have to replace, so it’s not as simple, easy, or financially better than it may seem.

Opening Day 2022:

Kiké CF

Devers 3B

Bogey SS

JD DH

Verdugo LF

Story SS

Dalbec 1B

JBJ RF

Vaz C

Rotation: Pivetta, Wacha, Hill, Eovaldi, Whitlock

That's not a rebuilding team. That's a team that is trying to get to the playoffs again.

Come on someone said DUBin was a grinder. He’s a starter for sure.🤔

KC stinks

Anthony is injured

Teel was traded for Crochet

The bigger problem this season has been Durbin, Story and Duran have been 3 of the 10 worst hitters in MLB.

Casas, and KC should have been in that group as well. little Anthony with his 1 HR, and 4 RBI hasn’t helped much of anything from what was expected of him either, and the same with Mayer.

What a tumble Mayer, and little Anthony took after you touted them going 5-6 on opening day.

IDK, the FO spoke about THE BIG THREE. Initially,  it was Marcello/Anthony/Teel, but they swapped Teel for Campbell after the trade. I don't think this org has been excited about Casas ever.

Not in the past few years, but when he was coming up through Portland, and Woo he was the first of the next big thing.

2021? That's so long ago it was the summer Marcelo was drafted. Marcelo was the #2 prospect because of how bad the system was.
