JH spent a lot of money to win those four championships. Now he wants It back.

I recall reading somewhere that Henry decided after the 2018 title to start generating cash.  He certainly has done that since after the 2019 debacle.

I need to apologize for getting on Whitlock for not backing up home.  They just showed the play on the postgame and he was backing up the plate on the first base side, where one would expect the line of the throw to be.  The actual culprit was Durbin, who tried to short hop the bad throw.. Still a horrific throw by Anthony.

The culprit was Anthony.  Durbin shouldn’t have been involved in the play at all.

Really though, maybe Whitlock should walk fewer hitters…

Unwatchable

The fans have simply got to boycott the park. Or show up and turn their backs in unison.

You do realize Henry benefits if you watch the game on TV or an internet source, right?

Agreed.  Perhaps we’re seeing why Cora DH’s him so much.  Duran doesn’t look all that comfortable in left, but he’s a gold glover compared to Anthony

Anthony was good defensively in the minors.  And here’s what soxprospects.com said about him:

“Defense: Strong defensive instincts make up for only average foot speed. Takes efficient routes when moving laterally, but on occasion will be a step slow reading balls over his head. Has primarily played center field, but started playing corner outfield more often in July 2024. Profiles best in the corner outfield long-term, but could play center at least at the beginning of his major league career if needed. Potential above-average defensive profile in the corner and average in center field.

Arm: Above-average arm strength. Not a stand-out arm, but plenty for any outfield spot.”

Agreed that Roman may have been looking for a non existent cutoff man and jerked his throw while Story who should have been the cutoff wandered over towards 3B and the generally clueless Durbin.

A thoroughly botched play and execution by all.

Wondering at what point we push the panic button. What is worrisome is that neither phase is working. None! I have no clue how you fix this mess, heck, maybe it’s not even fixable.

I still wonder seriously about the prep in ST, whether the WBC had a real effect. If anything it should have sharpened some guys up.

For those who think ST is a non-indicator , I will say i called it. The team looked weak and did not play well in the last 10 games prior to season starting, now poorly playing in about 80% of the first 10 games that count, and will still count in September.

At that depth, why would Anthony need a cut off man?  Two outs and the lead run is barely around third.  He had a play at the plate…

Fire Cora.

Ive been posting on various Sox forums for far longer than I care to admit, and this is the first time I’ve called for a manager to be fired…

I also doubt Cora will get fired or his sub coaches, or Breslow either, but I will say this is the kind of play that does get people fired.

Oh no one will get fired.  The closest might be a July 31st fire sale…

The throw from Anthony from that short distance should have been a line drive, airmailed to the plate, just like the hit to him. Watching the play multiple times I say Anthony had the ball before the runner actually touched 3rd and he did not expect the guy to be running .  He jerked the throw because he allowed himself to get caught between a full throw and who should he throw to.       Doesn't really matter

Then I'm back to my earlier question, does he have Steve Sax/Chuck Knobloch disease?

I doubt he makes nearly as much as if I pay for a ticket to see the game in person or but Flops gear

Anthony was MVP for USA probably.

Unfortunately, the real problem is JH and he can't be fired. Firing anyone else won't fix the problem.

I pay 180 dollars for the MLB package, which covers all 30 teams. One could go to one SOX game at Fenway and spend 180 dollars.

Anthony's throwing to home issues is the least of this terrible team's problems. Fixing these problems will be tougher than passing the law exam on the first try.

Yeah, another one telling everyone else to participate in a boycott they won’t join…

I didn’t see the game last night, but it looks like the boys actually hit something with their bats last night. On the other hand the pitching, and D pretty much sucked, and another loss ensued. What’s up with Anthony? Seems like he’s developed Johnny Damon arm.

That throw was pathetic, how can you not drill a runner at the plate from shallow left field?  But this has become so common, why can't outfielders throw any more?  I see errant throws to home that are way off target virtually every time I see a game or highlights.

At this point, they can't play Anthony in the OF until his arm is playable. He's a DH going forward. This has been the case since Opening Day.

They say that it's not an injury with Roman and it's mechanical. Do you believe them?

Putting the Wally head on Contreras after his homer in the 9th made a bigger mockery of this team.

I'm surprised Contreras didn't throw the head out of the dugout -- notice when he was barking at the entire Brewers team, not one Red Sox was backing him up... they looked like they didn't want to go near him.

His new teammates either don't care to fight his battles or fear him as a lunatic who might turn on them (that wasn't meant as a political statement, i swear).

The only way to save the season is to sacrifice the Wally head to the baseball gods. Bring it out to the mound pregame with an Old Hickory and beat it senseless. If that's too violent, fill it with m-80s and let Weissert light the fuse. In the very least, have Anthony shoot off a roman candle from inside the head.

Any other Kill Wally Head ideas are welcome on this forum!
