Im getting Carlos Baerga vibes*

*not washed up carlos Baerga vibes who was on the sox but no hate to that version of carlos baerga, who had elite level rah-rah energy (just under Millar's GOAT level rah-rah energy)

If he puts up a 92/93 Baerga season, some posters on here are going to have to apologize.

Matt Shaw is going to replace Hoerner next season at 2b. What's the play there? Trade Shaw and you don't have a 2b after this season. Trade Hoerner and you are taking a step back in a year you are trying to compete.

Again, the Cubs do have a BA Top 100 prospect in infielder James Triantos who struggled in AAA last year at age 22.  They could easily pencil him in, especially if he does improve vs AAA pitching.

No doubt they prefer Shaw, but theyre not dead without him…

There will be comparisons all year long on what Devers is doing, what Bregman is doing, and what Alonso is doing compared to Con Man.

Wouldn't it also be fair to point out that Raffy is doing it all while playing 1b too???

Who is going to play 1B for the Giants this year then?

I assume not Brandon Pelt or Buster Posey

The other candidate would be top prospect Bryce Eldridge, who is expected to be a monster with the bat......but plays 1B for a reason.  One will play 1B, one will DH.

It's kind of ironic.......Raffy is going into SF spring training and it's unclear whether he will play 1B or DH.

So the aftermath of the Devers trade is now essentially Rafael Devers for Caleb Durbin?

Don't forget the salary.....Caleb is dirt cheap for next three years.

It just feels nice to have a complete roster at last. And I now really like the IKF signing as well. Great depth at 3 positions,

And I love the competitive draft pick. Really like this trade, even if I worry about our guaranteed power outage we're going forward with.

In my MLB the show franchise (video game) its the year 2038 and Bryce Eldridge is winding down a fantastic career. Not sure if that means anything to you (I would assume not)

Fair to point out as is it is to point out it’s an entirely different situation.

This guy makes Dustin Pedroia look like a giant (listed at 5'7").  Maybe 2nd base?  Hopefully he keeps hitting.

So Devers for a ,250 hitter  "good at bunting"?   Damn!  Can't wait for those exciting plays that  decades before Moneyball were shown to be negatives.

Dead. Triantos '25 704 OPS. He's repeating that level.

That's like saying "the Sox shouldn't worry about 2027, they have Mikey Romero."

Nothing that was "decades before moneyball" is relevant today.  Even moneyball is not relevant to today (except for the whole zig when they zag aspect of it, which i dont think will ever be dated).

Bunting came back with the shift exploitation (years after moneyball) because teams leave massive holes to align themselves to where the hitter naturally tends to hit the ball creating "bunt it to where they are not" opportunities that werent there before the rays revolutionized shift exploitation.  All of this was after moneyball (maybe not the movie, but I mean the As team).

I do wonder if even this is now dated since like 1 yr ago when they put parameters around how much teams can shift.  But change is constant is my point.

This MIL-BOS trade works for me. No complaints.

I agree....even with only 164 days of service time, he looks to be a keeper. It's another position hopefully we won't have to worry about.

CC Narvarez     5 yrs of team control

1B Contreras    2 yrs plus option

2B Durbin        6 yrs

SS Story          2 yrs plus option

3B Mayer        6 yrs

RF Abreu        4 yrs

CF Rafaela      6 yrs

LF Anthony    8 yrs plus option

DH Duran       3 yrs

I love it that our lineup is pretty well set. We still have Casas for 3 more years at 1B/DH option if he returns strong. Mayer just needs to step up. Some had him #1 pick when he was drafted #4. We can continue to focus on building a kick ass pitching staff.

This trade also cleared out some 40 man roster spots.

If Pedroia had to list his real height, would it actually be 5'9"?

I like my Baerga comparison more.  Pedey just hit the ball hard and sprayed it around.  Baerga was more of a place-the-ball / energy / contributions from his legs guy.  Plus I think he played 2b and 3b like Durbin.  Granted Baerga at like 5'9 was the tallest of the three (dont believe listed heights).

Bunting was bad way before the shift started (there were articles showing that as early as the 60s), and the fact that the shift has come and gone has not changed matters.

I'm always suspicious when things work out this well.  But if we get 6 seasons of the 2025 Durbin, I'm going to be a happy camper.

I hope he's not the next Grissom, but he looks like he's a plus on defense and started his career with a 101 OPS+. Having I K-F, Rodgers and the two other infielders we got from MIL gives us much better depth than we've seen in that area for years.

I was hoping for more quality than quantity on filling this slot, but it is what it is.

The roster is more balanced. It's deeper. It's more flexible.

Not Bregman.

Hint: he rhymes with Kat Mapman.
