I think the idea was that Mayer would be sitting against tough lefties, Romy (and then Monasterio) hitting aginst the lefties.  Since neither Romy nor Monasterio can play SS, then neither could Mayer.

In that scenario, they can play IKF at SS and Romy at DH.

Monasterio was fine at SS last season in 200 innings.

Congrats to the 2026 Boston Red Sox that it only took them 9 games, and go 2-7, which they now have the worst record in baseball, and all to themselves. What makes you feel better that the Red SOx will go on a run, and get back to 500 Breslow’s interview with the Yuckers on NESN yesterday, or Cora saying we’ve got to play better for the endless amount of times?🤔

Maybe he should say we "got to play worse?"

True.  Although a Duran/Paredes deal did make sense for both teams.  Houston just wanted more…

They wanted Abreu, not Duran.

Do you or any other lucid Red Sox fan really believe that THIS ownership in THIS decade would actually welcome someone else's malcontent under contract for three hundred million dollars?!?!

Not a chance.

The best we can hope for is finding the next Steve Pearce, but a SS or 3Bman, instead..

Glad I missed yesterday's game then.

SS is an entirely other issue, and it has nothing to do with Story's slow start with the bat.

But come on -- we've all seen him: even when he makes clean plays, he has to take three running steps towards first before he throws to reach it in the air.

If this big league team is sincerely all about what they're touting as their biggest strength -- RUN PREVENTION -- then we know the change on the diamond that ultimately has to be made.

Cora will never do it, but the time is now for Mayer at SS and Story at 2B, at least until  Romy can play there.

The obvious move going back to Nov was sending Story to 2b. He was fine there in '22 with his dead arm.

Is there even a timetable for Romy? Post ASB?

We could go with IKF and Monasterio, if Story continues sucking.

If it's not too early to start writing Sox players off, then those who do should consider this:

.602 Bregman

.651 Alonso

.579 Polanco (some clown suggested signing him, several times over!)

🤣

Cora will never bench his team leader. And flipping him with the callow second baseman is too disrespectful to the grizzled veteran.

We're going to have to wait for an official injury, but you can bet the trainers are on high alert: "the first time you see Story rub an elbow or use ice or hot gel in the clubhouse, report it immediately to the IL office!"

This doesn't say much for Story's leadership abilities.

Yes, correct. Cora's loyalty to Story is rock solid.

That doesn't stop me from voicing my opinions.

Nor Cora's.

We saw enough of his issues last year in how he handled Devers. It's clear he can't handle these players either.

He "handles" them with kid gloves.

and says even less about Cora's leadership abilities. he's there to win f***ing games, not play nice to some zillionaire's f***ing ego.

Brezlow and Cora should both be suspect in the way they handled the whole Devers, Bregman debacle, spring training 2025. Dysfunctional out of the gate.

That right there can be the source of losing. No leadership creates a bad locker room.
