We are going to have to win like 20 in a row for renting to be a good option.

So, making the playoffs is not the main goal?

I'm not sure why JH will agree to spend like a maniac, now, We were much more hopeful, last winter, and he wouldn't budge.

BLowe and Jeffers should not cost us Arias, Tolle or any other high end prospect. Both are rentals.

1- Because we don’t have any options on this team at C, 2b, SS, or DH that can even touch 750+ OPS over course of season.

2- because this free agent class blows, and the thought of going through 2027 with the worst HR hitting team in baseball in a hitter friendly ballpark makes me want to stab my eyeballs out.
3- assuming Roman comes back and starts hitting at 800+ OPS, Durbin continues to play more like he has in June, Rafaela and Wilyer I believe will be .750 OPS guys. We still have 4 positions in lineup with sub hitters.
4- Assuming Willson continues to play really well but reverts back to that 820 OPS rather than the 900

then we still have 4 positions with no path to measured improvements without a spend or depletion of farm system.

Assuming Breslow sits down with JH and says OK……. If we want to look different offensively in 2027 here are our options.
C- Narvaez/ Wong both are waaaaaaay below hitters and can’t be counted on for much in 2027.
1B- WC will be 35 but 900 OPS good D, check the box

2B- free agent or Romy/ Seigler platoon

SS- Story/ Mayer a. Story 547 OPS, below avg defense and played 49.2% of possible games in Red Sox uniform.
b. Mayer young not really consistent injury prone.

3b- Durbin assuming he plays like he has in June very solid. Check the box
LF- Roman injury prone and very young. Check the box

CF- Rafaela check the box

RF- Abreu Check the box

DH Duran/ Yoshida below par play out of this position aging not getting better actually worsening.
SP is fully in the win now window even if we trade Sonny Gray away. Houck, Oviedo, Crawford, most likely Bello, Early , Tolle, Suarez, Crochet.

Are you LYAO, because he’s laughing at you, because he is laughing at you, and the Red SOX, and rightfully so. 11 games under 500 in a weak watered down league deserves that, and more. In his limited post the Stork has been more right about the Red Sox than your thousands of post.🤓

Quite a home stand by the Red Sox. Sweeping the Yankees in 4 games was a feel good story. That was the good news. The bad news was on either side of that 4 game sweep the Red Sox blew two games in Colorado, and lost 2 games to Washington, so back to 11 games under 500 they go, and where it stops no one knows.

Dude you didn’t even know who Hansen was before two days ago.  Guess what? They’re almost all college players.

Despite a little run against the Yanks we're still just about dead last in scoring runs.

C - Hopefully someone the Sox don’t have yet.  Ive always felt Narvaez’ ceiling was defense-only starter/elite BUC.  My oft-mentioned Dalton Rushing target is unlikely, although he is blocked for the next several years.  I find myself wondering if Edgar Quero (CWS) is available.  If he is on the table for Chapman, hopefully Breslow pounces.

1b - Contreras trade is possible but unlikely.  I doubt Breslow wants some sort of full blown rebuild when adding a bat or two might be enough.

2b - Story? I prefer him here.  Some pundits are tossing out Jarren Duran/Jordan Lawler swaps as well.

SS- Mayer.  Like him or not, they held him for a reason.

3b/LF/CF/RF We know the names.

DH - I think unless Yoshida goes all Tony Gwynn for the next 3 months, he’s going to be relegated to the bench or waiver wire.  Tjis is the biggest chance to add thump, and it’s not going to de someone acquired in July.  And hopefully not some dreg from the free agent “talent” pool this off-season…

So to clarify your roster going into 2027:

C- (trade), 1st- WC40, 2nd- Story, SS- Mayer, 3b- Durbin, LF- Roman, CF- Rafaela, RF- Abreu, DH- (Free Agent)…

Trade options: Quero .486 OPS I’m out….. he looks like Narvaez 2.0

Rushing- I think this checks the box for me. Rushing trade would probably be Early or Tolle+ farm talent…  Assuming dodgers willing to trade for SP as that’s where we have depth. Rushing Almost .800 OPS

DH Free Agent Options: Taylor Ward (honestly I like) but it’ll make JH really uncomfortable in terms of years, Paul Goldschmidt took a discount to stay in NYC unlikely, Brandon Lowe (honestly I like) but again a 32 yr old Free agent looking to get paid. Ramon Laureano meh, Miguel Andujar??

Outside of them getting Rushing and Lowe/ Ward them rolling this lineup out in March 2027 doesn’t make you want to puke?

I'd be fine trading for non rentals, but the deadline is not the time for that.

After these last two losses, I'm on the fence about adding BLowe and Jeffers or the like.

To make bold trades, this coming winter, you have to think about trading away a couple or more top prospects. I'm not against the idea, but we simply have to strike gold, or we could be looking at another 8 more years of futility.

We need a big bat and likely two. Assuming we trade Duran and dump Yoshida, we can really look at any position. Since Contreras looks fine at 1B, we will likely look at the other 8 slots.

We aren't adding 9 everyday players, so we need to decide who stays. I'd start with:

C ______

1B Contreras

2B ______ (Durbin/Story)

3B Durbin

SS ______

LF ______ (Anthony)

CF Rafaela

RF Abreu

DH _____ (Anthony)

Bench: Narvaez or Wong, 1 or 2 from Mayer, Seigler, Monasterio, Eaton

SP: Crochet, Suarez, Tolle, Early, Bennett depth or pen: Houck/Crawford/Oviedo/Eyanson

RP: Chapman, Whitlock, ______, _______, Slaten, ______, Bello, Moran, Weissert/Kelly/Guerero/Watson/Samaniego/Uberstine/Holobetz/Wehunt

Do you trade Arias when our middle infield is wide open?

Do you trade Eyanson and trust our current rotation and depth?

Does Witherspoon, Gonzales, Godbout, Azocar, Valera, Soto, Primera, Delzine and others get us what we need?

Adding a Catcher and LF/DH looks like a good start, but they'd have to be great on offense to make us jump high enough to be a top contender.

I realize we may have to "settle" on someone like Story at 2B, Mayer at SS or Narvaez/Wong at Catcher since we will not be adding 3-4 bats, this winter, but to me We need to add a middle infielder who can also hit. Story-Mayer & Co is not a winning keystone combo.

Some have faith in Arias, but counting on him to hit the MLB ground running in 2027 is like hoping on Campbell in 2025 and Mayer in 2026. I'm not up for that, again.

Pitchers like Houck, Crawford and Oviedo will not have the trade value needed to be dealt for what we need. Perhaps one could be part of a larger trade, but we do need rotation depth, too. I doubt Brez wants to trade Eyanson, but we will need to give something to get real value back. Trading Arias takes away from our middle infield future but who else can we trade to get a stud bat? It has to be Eyanson and or Arias. (Mayer's trade value is not as high as his upside value to us, and he won't bring a stud bat either, unless maybe a one year contract DH type.)

Brez has shown he's willing to make wholesale changes to the roster. He flipped 20+ players last winter and 10+ the winter before. He's traded some highly ranked prospects and players like Sale. He's not shy on pulling the trigger like Bloom was. That could be a good thing, if he does as well as the Contreras and Gray deals, again this winter, but he's also made a few deals that may have looked okay at the time, but have looked bad out of the gate (Harrison & Priester.) The Sale trade has haunted him beyond the opening gate.

The best shot at winning in 2027 would be to sell this summer and try to get players and ML ready prospects that can fill an open slot or two listed in previous posts.

Gray should bring something good enough to fill a slot.

Trading Chapman might, too, but then we have the closer slot to refill.

IKF, Coulombe and other one and done players are not bringing us top value for 2027, but see what we can get, anyway.

I would not trade Contreras, unless we get a great offer.

Are we fed up with Abreu's failure to become a stud? Do we trade him and hope he doesn't become a stud for his next team? Who else has the trade value to bring back top value?

The team is going nowhere.  They should trade psycho Contreras before he gets injured or further damages his marketability.  The Mets could use a first baseman.

I didn’t even name a DH and only said FA looks like an awful place to shop for one.  Doubtful either Duran or Yoshida are on this team next year.  Duran might not be on it next month.

Rushing is preferable over Quero and might even be available and has reportedly been on Breslow’s radar before.  But writing off Quero based on 170 PA at age 23 is beyond premature, especially since he has hit well at every previous level, and might be about the ceiling for a Chapman trade.

If Early wasn’t injured, I would certainly consider him straight up for Rushing (assuming Smith comes back) and think that’s a fair deal on its own. BTV values Rushing roughly equal to Mayer, which does make some sense for LA given their weaker middle infield prospects and I’m willing to bet the rest of MLB hasn’t given up on Mayer just yet.   I’d do that one, too, but LA likely holds on to Rushing until the off-season.  Tolle plus for Rushing is madness.

Another possible improvement might be Yokohama Bay Stars’ Shugo Maki, the 28yo 2b with a .854 OPS in NPB who is eligible for posting. No idea if he wants to try MLB.  He should be a step up over Siegler/Romy…

BTV severely under values Rushing IMO when you factor years and nearly 800 OPS 9HR already a 1.1 WAR after 156 AB’s extrapolate that out that’s a 4.5 WAR at 25 years old catcher with 5 years control. again I’m all for it. 100% in but I think it takes Early or Tolle + Prospects.

Almost any other move whether trade/ or Free agency is going to require taking on more money coming back. So why not go get Adames? Add him + Story + Mayer to play middle Infield.

The Mets need lots of things but figure to be unloading contracts and not acquiring any this month.

There are contending teams that could use him. St. Louis leaps to mind, ironically.  Pittsburgh and San Diego as well…

San Fran has already stated they’re not open to Adames.  I think that is odd given his salary jump next year, but then they do seem to have issues attracting free agents lately.

If BTV undervalues Rushing, it’s likely based on some site’s projections.  Projecting a player’s future performance is beyond an inexact science, but it’s not exactly baseless either.  Would you deal Arias for Rushing?

Maybe they want to give the impression they want to keep Adames, so it doesn't drive his value down.

They should trade him, and deadline trades bring more back than winter trades.

Looks like Contreras is on a 7 day vacation which seems ridiculous and will be appealed .

I think Cav got a similar spanking but a pitcher out 7 may only include 1 turn in the rotation.

Not speaking financially…… just Roster wise. How much better would you feel about next years lineup IF we never traded Devers? Or traded him back in terms that were agreeable to us?

1b- Contreras

2b- Adames or Marte (Mayer was traded in my fantasy world last December)

SS- Story or maybe Arias

3b- Durbin

LF Anthony

CF Rafaela

RF Abreu

DH Devers

C Narvaez/ Wong

You must have missed the part about or traded back for him at terms agreeable to RS…….  I know it’s dumb/terrible idea it’s just the irony that he is the exact type of bat we are missing.
