My guess is we keep Toro (in Woo) and add Mayer to our long list of 60 day IL players to make room on the 40.

Toro would need to be DFAd first.  He might get claimed. He seems to quite often…

You are right. I thought he had one more option left.

DFA him. Campbell can be the call-up, if Lowe gets hurt or sucks, badly.

He's been really bad, so if someone claims him, I'm not sure it's a move that comes back to bite the Red Sox.

Toro has been bad his whole career (.638 before 2025.) He had one nice 16 game stretch and sucked before and after that.

Lowe might end up sucking, too, but he's not old, so maybe he was just having a tough stretch.

He just turned 30. He has a decent .771 career OPS.

.770 since '22

.740 since '23

Both blow Toro away, especially the Toro- post Devers trade.

No one said it would come back to haunt Boston, just that it likely means he’s gone forever,,,

IDK, he might not get claimed and head to WOO.

I really like this move and surprised there was not more discussion about it.  I am ready for a real firstbaseman.  I've seen far too many tough plays simply not made by our 1st baseman this year.  So many throwing errors could have been avoided if we simply had a legit 1st baseman capable of picking some of those errant throws.  Hopefully his stick returns to a decent level.

His defense will improve what we've had at 1B for years.

I hope he can regain some of his decent O. He just turned 30, so there is some hope.

He went from being a negative bWAR guy to a positive bWAR guy just by switching jerseys. Impressive.

1 PA and 1 BB = 0.1 WAR!

Instantly better than even the most vocal replacement posters could muster.

And I don't mean we'd all strike out... but taking a walk is less painful than getting hit by a pitch or running out of the batter's box, down the cement dugout steps and into the clubhouse while trying not to blow out an achilles or snap an ankle while wearing metal spikes.

A very painful fall could get you immortalized on highlight reels though!

Just having what should be a good D at the position is a good enough step for me right now. With luck the bat gets back to what it was as well.

An almost no-downside roll of the dice.

It kinda sucked to still see Toro in the line-up, and then adding Eaton about knocked me off my chair.

Cora doesn't trust LHB against LHP. If Refsnyder wasn't hurt, he would have been in there instead of Eaton.

Yes, I agree. I heard Abreu was hobbled, too, to that also helped get Eaton into the game.

Lowe's been a 3 WAR player the past few seasons before this one. Whiff rates and K rates have both jumped, but his BABIP has also dropped 40 points. Hoping it was a weird message from the Nats (his pull rate increased by 5%) that might be causing something.

I like Eaton, but he should not be our leadoff man. He can absolutely fly though. Anyone know if hes a solid bunter?

Not really.  Eaton has two good skills - speed and throwing, which he does better than anyone in MLB except maybe Addison Bargar.  (Ever seen that clip when the Royals let him pitch an inning and he was throwing 99mph fastballs by hitters?)

Hitting is not his forte in any fashion…

Maybe we can let him get some of Hicks innings

Being only 30 gives me hope it can be fixed.

It’s worth a shot.  Maybe he recaptures some prior magic.  He is a solid defender.

My feelings exactly.  He's worth a shot.  There is really no risk involved in this move.  Plus, he's a veteran presence.  It can't hurt.

Amazingly, this 30 year old still has one arb year left.

He's a super two guy like Duran. Duran won't be a FA until he turns 32.

I'm hoping he has a super two months.
