A much you want to blame Weissert, this is on Cora. First he leaves Whitlock and now Weissert. Whata moron. Horrible BP management. Horrible!

Who was left in the pen that you would have sent out there instead?

Are you telling me no one was available?

Is Hendriks hurt or something?  Why bring Weissert back out?

Cora’s way!

His vote-of-confidence nonsense is killing this team.

Whoever gets the loss, there is always someone better we could have brought in. That is one constant on these game threads.

IMO Whitlock and Weissert were gassed out by a mile but hey what the hell do I know!

Both the starting pitching and the BP have to be restructured. Bello is a BP killer.

Can't fight 20-20 hindsight.

I agree--you don't know.

I thought taking out Wilson after 4 pitches was a bit questionable. I don't care about matchups when you can't afford to use up the entire pen with the series finale tomorrow. I know this didn't really factor into the final scoreline, but Cora needs to trust the guy he puts out there for more than 4 pitches and one batter faced. Whit came in and we all know how that went. The July deadline can't come any sooner--which I can't believe I'm already saying in May.

The pen is weak: that's on Brez not Cora.

We finally spent on SP'ers- both in trade and financial capital, but so far that has not worked, except Crochet.

We seemed to have found a decent defensive catcher who is even starting to hit.

We improved the defense with the Bregman addition and the Rafaela to CF FT choices made.

The pen got worse. Jansen & Martin > Chapman & Wilson, and the '24 pen was no strength to begin with.

Whatever decision ends up wrong, people in these threads knew the right moves beforehand. That's the constant.  Such is the life of a sports fan.

Sometimes, and more often than we wish, Cora has no "right choices" at his disposal.

Fast forward to the final 10 seconds of the deadline, and it's guaranteed the Red Sox will land the 157th-best available reliever on the market.

I think the .500 magnet is real.

If it is, Sox win tonight and then lose the Atlanta Series 2-1.  This means we probably sweep the Mets and we all get excited only to get are asses handed to us at home by the Baltimore Orioles next weekend.

Dancing around the .500 mark starts to lose its charm after 3.25 seasons of it.

Shouldn't we just be used to it?

I thought it was a little weird that a lot of people assumed the Sox had a legitimate shot as AL East champs just because Cole went down. Hows does that get the Sox an extra 12 wins?

Offseasons are meant for dreaming, and the additions of Crochet and Bregman did make it feel like we were serious again.

The bullpen has been absolutely killing us.  If we'd hung onto 2-3 of these blown leads we'd be feeling much better about the team.  Bad bullpens are death.  Maybe Breslow and Bailey were overconfident in this area?  I don't know.

I think they were counting on 6-8 arms out of the 15-18 mediocre arms in the system would rise to the top.

The Chapman signing has worked out better than I expected.

The probably counted on Hendriks, too much.

I don't blame them for thinking Whitlock and Slaten would be good pen arms in 2025.

Chapman, Whitlock and Slaten are only 3 arms, and even they all had questions going into 2025.

The rest were and still are hopes and prayers:

Hendriks, Wilson & Bernardino

Wink, Criswell & Newcomb

Weissert, Kelly & Guerrero

I Campbell, Penrod & Mata

Adames, Adams & Burdi

Btw, is Guerrero still an active member of the BP?

No.  He’s in Worcester.  Sent back down on May 3rd to activate Bernardino from the bereavement list…
