Bello as a #2?

2.01 ERA

4.72 xFIP

5.53 xERA

5.57 FIP

5.24 k/9

4.84 bb/9

.234 BABIP

I think there will be regression at some point unless he can turn it up here.

I actually have Giolito ahead of Bello.

I get it that Giolito got lit up in his 2nd outing. But he throws strikes. He made an adjustment between his second and third starts.

Despite being lit up, Giolito's WHIP is lower than Bello's.

67% vs 45% strike ratio.

I trust Giolito little more than Bello.

Our trust level changes from game to game with guys like these, methinks.

Maybe we have to hope Buehler can become the #2... or Fitts.

The starting pitching hasn't been horrible, outside of Houck, unfortunately.

With that injury history, hard to put him even in the rotation for the whole year.

Well, Dobbins has been good, and Fitts was good before going on the IL.

Dobbins 2.78 (1.19 WHIP) 3.37 FIP is respectable

Fitts 3.18 (1.12) 3.99 FIP

Bello has a nice ERA (2.01) but his 1.34 WHIP is scary. His 5.57 FIP is awful.

Buehler's 4.28 is not bad for a 4/5 SP'er, but we may need him to step up into a 2 or 3 slot. (He had a 2.59 ERA over his last 4 starts and a 3.48 FIP)

Good starters+ Crochet 9 GS, Dobbins and maybe Bello 4 each and Fitts 3.

That's 20 GS out of 43.

Last 28 Days:

2.01 Bello (4 GS)

2.40 Crochet (5 GS)

2.55 Dobbins (3 GS)

2.61 Newcomb (counting 4 RP games and 2 GS)

3.00 Buehler (3 GS)

5.51 Giolito (3 GS)

7.20 Houck (5 GS)

Sogard hitting 6th? Yuck

No Refsnyder vs the LHP hurts.

The bottom 4: Sogard, Narvaez, DHam & Rafaela... OH MY!

Campbell batting 4th is yuck, and OH MY also. 3-30 with 9 K’s.

Yup on Yuck....

Everyone batting 4th seems to yick it up.

I think Story might be the only guy who does better 4th than elsewhere, but still did not do well.

If only the Sox had a couple of offensive prospects at Woo.

I don't see the harm in trying one- or both.

Abreu sucked in the 4th spot too. He got a couple of hits his last time there to make him look a little better.

What is it about Sox pitchers and giving up walks/hits/run(s0 in 1st inning ?    This was a trend last year, now again .

If you have been to the ballparks pregame , you can see it isn't for lack of prep both on the field and in the BP.  They probably throw the ball 100 times pregame including long toss and actual mound work in the BP

Maybe the pitchers should ask the Sox hitters because they certainly know how NOT to score in the first .

Until the guy on the on the mound has command of the strike zone he's not a pitcher, he's a thrower.

But enough about the Sox Thrower , Bello
