I'm not sure player's values go that up and down based on a game or two, but if they do, it went back up, last night.

Well, it's 9 games rather than 1 or 2, and came at the worst possible time.

It may have had little effect, but the temptation to push the chips in will have decreased for sure.

This to me has been considerably more complicated - at least in that the team has been better. What is true is that the expanded playoffs created a truly bonkers seller's market for players. Using Fangraphs, 20 of the 30 teams have at least a 10% chance of making the playoffs ... and we know what a chaotic mistress playoff baseball is.

I just don't know what the lower levels of the Sox inventory - as solid as it is - can buy. Now, I'd put Bleis into a deal for a good player - but the prices are pretty shocking.

Lower level players are not in demand, like they used to be. Teams want ML ready or near ML ready prospects. It would be "selling low" on Bleis, Cespedes, Zanetello, Arias and others.

I may be a homer, but I think our midlevel prospects are as good or better than most teams and should be enough to get us better pitching than Paxton.

ML'er Valdez

Meidroth

Lugo

Hickey

Kavadas (We got Tommy Pham for Northcut)

Jordan

Castro

(Gasper, Sogard. Alvarez, maybe not)

I'd trade Abreu for a pitcher with 2.3 years of control.

He's pretty good, despite the high BB rate of 4.6 career and 5.7 last 3 seasons.

He's a rental with a 1.2 K/9 over the last 3 years. He's 30.

On June 10th, he had an ERA of 4.43 and an FIP of 6.16.

It's been 2.40/3.16 since then (15 IP 13Hits 7BB 17Ks 1 HR) .645 OPSA.

Portes was raising eyebrows, but you gotta give to get.

Only 35.1 innings in 43 appearances so he strictly a 1 inning pitcher if that.

To NYY: Mark Leiter Jt

TO CHC: Ben Cowles & Jack Neely

Feels like the Cubs got fleeced a little there.

Sims is a decent addition. At least a little better than some of the jabronis the Sox have been using.

Agreed. He should help.

We need 2-3 more like him or better.

Do we need another reliever in case Bailey cannot gets sims fixed????

We need 2-3 more, even if Sims does great.

We had zero reliable RP'ers before today.

I like Abreu at least as much as you do, despite his weakness against lefties. But I think you have the right idea.

The problem, of course, is that these days MLB arms are high risk, and my bias against Breslow is that he can't seem to tell which arms are risky.

So...

Yorke, Portes, C Coffey, Paulino, G Batista & M Bolivar

for

Lucas Sims (RP), James Paxton (SP), Danny Jansen (RHB C) and Quinn Priester (SP likely to be in AAA for 2024.)

DFA: McGuire, Chase Anderson and Walter

Overall, I like the deals, especially the 6 years of Priester, but nothing really jumps out as a big addition for 2024.

There's still time for a Mayer deal.

Arms are a huge risk, but we can't ignore adding some with crossed fingers.

To me, trading for a younger pitcher is less risky than signing 29-30+ FA pitchers.

Trading for a young pitcher is less risky than drafting one or signing IFA pistcher.

Once a pitcher has been in the minors (or majors) our scouts can get a better read on their skill level and projections.

Nobody can project injuries, but we need to add quality arms and hope enough work out.

We are overloaded and bottle-necked with some positional players/prospects. We need to use our strength to improve our weakness: it's that simple.

Making it happen is not easy.

Sims since 4/19:

30.1 IP

33 K

14 BB

2.37 ERA

4.18 FIP

Yup. I posted this earlier...

It's been 2.40/3.16 since then (15 IP 13Hits 7BB 17Ks 1 HR) .645 OPSA.

He has a really good sweeper. Seems like Bailey might be able to work with him and get some short term results.

Wonder what the Yanks are up to?

@francysromeroFR

Some teams inquiring about OF Alex Verdugo, per sources.

Another source doesn't rule out that he could be part of a trade before the deadline.

The last I heard was the SOX are still in the hunt for rental Tanner Scott along with the Yankems and the O's.

Sox also potentially in on Jack Flaherty which could move a rotation guy to the pen.

We are currently in the window of opportunity.....really need to have serious discussion about a controllable pitcher not only for this year but for next couple of years.

If you are unwilling so dish out $30M for an aging veteran, you must give up good young talent to get back a young, controllable pitcher.

Think it’s from Breslow? ;)
