If Anthony is going to platoon and not play full time then he has more value right now as a trade chip for some pitching.

Something gives, They're not sitting Anthony unless something horrible goes wrong.

These things work themselves out, someone will regress, get hurt, move position, or just get traded.

Anthony's ceiling is higher than Abreu's, Rafaela's and Duran's. There's no way he's sitting.

Yeah, not even Cora can figure out how to juggle 6 outfielders.

Seems like it would behoove them to bring back either O'Neill or Refsnyder to balance the L-R thing a bit.

It's only a problem if they believe Duran and Anthony can't hit LHP.

I feel like it might be a crime against humanity for suggesting this but......Duran was a second baseman by trade. That certainly wouldn't be my 1st, or even second choice. But if EVERYTHING broke right and you wanted to get all these guys in the lineup, then one has to assume there is a great than zero percent chance of that happening.

And yes..... .01 is still greater than 0

This could happen later in his career, but not right now when his athleticism is still at its peak.

I pretty much agree, people probably would have called us crazy around here if we suggested Mookie move back to the infield.

Even if they can, can they hit it nearly as well as Refsnyder?

Interestingly enough, there's a lot of talk that Mookie is going back to the outfield.

Or you platoon Refsnyder at DH.

That is assuming Refsnyder even comes back. Someone else might offer him more money than Henry…

Just looked it up and the Sox have a team option on Refsnyder for 2025.

Have to guess they bring him back but not O'Neill.

I could see that. I didn’t realize he had an option.

He’ll get his ABs either platooning with Abreu or Yoshida, but not so likely with Anthony…

He’s not much of. a SS. I never understood why Roberts moved Mookie to SS, benched Miguel Rojas, and then started Hayward in RF…

Refsnyder fields like dogshit. He should be DH only.

Mookie moved back to the IF after a few injury issues. If they want to move Duran to 2B in his 30's, fine.

He probably should. They only moved him because of a lack of options in MIF for the Dodgers.

I don't think Roberts is a very good manager.

They had Lux, Rojas, Kike and Taylor. And Muncy had experience at 2b if they kept Busch to cover 3rd.

They had options. Roberts overmanaged the situation…

The injuries were Miguel Rojas, Chris Taylor, and Gavin Lux. All guys LA was trying to plug in up the middle.

Kind of the same situation here, not because of injury, but because of need.

Still, if the Sox are plugging Duran in the infield in 2025 then it's because EVERYTHING went right in the outfield with Rafaela/Anthony/Abreu/REF ++++ and EVERYTHING went wrong in the infield with Mayer/Story/Campbell.

Again, I don't think this is very realistic at all, certainly not likely, call it a slow day point of contention. But yet I still have this feeling like someone is about to come in here and tell us about how the facts are indisputable any second.

None of those players were injured. The Dodgers opened the season with Lux starting at 2b and Taylor starting in LF. Rojas appeared in many games early on as well.

Lux was the original choice for SS, but they decided he wasn’t very good. Mookie was slated for 2b. For some reason, the goal appeared to be to get Rojas out of the lineup to make room for the annual disappointing season from Jason Hayward…

The disappointment does come a bit cheaper now...

If Ref is on the squad, he's playing DH vs LHP. Anthony doesn't have any current platoon issues so I don't see why you'd sit him very often.

DH'ing Ref solves that issue, but Cora seems resistant to platooning Yoshida.

Without Ref at DH, who sits, then?

I hope Masa stays hot and they can trade him. It fixes a lot of the logjam IMO.

Agreed, but can you answer?

If Masas is the 2015 FT DH, who sits vs LHPs and RHPs:

Duran

Abreu (easy sit v L)

Rafaela

Ref (easy sit v R)

Anthony (assuming all 5 are on the 26.)

4 for 3 slots.

Yoshida is certainly not being platooned, but he has sat against some lefties I believe.

No, those were the injuries that occurred in 2023 that started this all, when Mookie Betts played right field but also started over 70 games in the infield (mostly 2nd at the time). This is when he started to move back to the infield, NOT this year.

It Lux being injured and not having an arm that moved him to SS for 2024.

Yes, he is normally rested vs LHPs, but not platooned.

So, who sits when Yoshida DHs vs LH SP'ers?

Abreu is rotated through the OF and get like 25-35% of the reps. Anthony/Duran/Rafaela are the majority of the reps once Anthony is established. No platoons.

He should be. He has a terrible split this year.

I don't know.

All's I know is that Cora is as good a lineup juggler as one could ask for, so I'm content to sit back and let him do his thing.
