I'm so glad we're STILL going on about Mookie..................

Is there any good Red Sox news to talk about at the moment? Mookie will be talked about for years to come. He is that good, and it was that BIG of a mistake to get rid of him.

How many beers did Wade Boggs realistically drink on that plane? The original story was 73, then he recently upped it to 107. It was probably 35 at most, right?

Was that before, or after meeting Margo?

It would have been well after that affair was made public. He states that it was a cross country pitch to CA where he played against Mark Langston the following day and went 2-3. Langston didn't pitch for the Angels until the 90's.

Per the game logs, he never went 2 for 3 against Langston as an Angel. In 1990, he went 2-5 with one double. That was his best performance and maybe what he was misremembering.

You’d misremember s***, too, if you drank 73 beers…

There is no way anyone can even remember how many beers they drank by 73.

Maybe the stewardess counted.

Wrong! Yes, of course Mookie is way better than Devers, but it's a fact that Mookie by himself could not save this Sox team because the CBO and/or owner decided to stop spending big bucks for pitching. The overall Sox team payroll has dwindled steadily over the past 5 years or so.

In fact, I'll happily go out on a limb and say that keeping Mookie, Devers, and Bogey would not have made the Sox contenders because of the lack of pitching.

This year the Sox pitching has been amazingly good--granted--but few of us believe it will last.

Everyone can have their own theory about the Betts trade. And they can repeat it again and again until they are sure it is true. But there is just one thing we know for certain. Chaim Bloom, in one of his initial moves, traded Mookie to the Dodgers. That will be Bloom's legacy and it will live in infamy in Red Sox history.

Because they'd be dead most likely.

BAC is around 1.23%.

It will take around 83 more hours to reach 0%.

High possibility of death

Unless those beers were significantly less than 12 oz. Maybe he found some metric beers that were only 2 CC apiece...

No one said Mookie was going to save the Red Sox, but fact is the Red Sox traded a homegrown future HOF in the prime of their career, because for whatever reason they couldn’t get together on a contract. Mookie, Bogey, and Raffy did win one WS together, but could they have won more together we will never no.

In his day, the late Andre the Giant would drink Boggs under the table.

Also, he made better movies.

The Princess Bride is much, much, much better than Swamp Shark.

I probably need a few more muches in there...

Not a theory. He actually did it.

If he wasn't allowed to spend, it was really the only option. Mookie flat out refused to play for free...

Mookie would make any team better. We don't know how much better, but certainly they would be better with Mookie. There should not be any doubt about that.

But we do know how much better, in terms of syllabication.

Yell this aloud: "Yeah, Mookie!"

Now try this: "Yeah, Zach Short Time In Boston - Oh For Seven With Four Kaaaaaaays!"

My comment was directed to what I clipped from your statement.

That will be Bloom's legacy and it will live in infamy in Red Sox history.

The part I did not clip was factual.

But it's your theory that Bloom bears the blame for it.

I think if you put it to a poll most Sox fans would put the blame on Henry.

Bloom was the hired gun. We all know how the hired gun thing works.

It was clear that Henry was becoming increasingly concerned about the payroll. But did he order Bloom to trade Mookie ? Maybe, maybe not. That is where the theories come in. All we know for sure is that Bloom pulled the trigger on the trade.

Henry was not just concerned with payroll; he wanted to get under the Luxury Tax threshold for 2020. That would have been impossible to do while extending Betts.

It became obvious the Sox were not going to be able to retain Betts when Dombrowski wasn’t allowed to go any higher than he did. And when he said the Sox would NOT be able to retain all three of Betts, Bogaerts and Sale. Once Betts’ price got too high, DD just switched to the players he could extend…
