And this was a poorly constructed team that could never put it all together.

2020 And this was a poorly constructed team

2021 And this was a well constructed team

2022 And this was a poorly constructed team

2023 And this was a poorly constructed team

Of course, these are only opinions, which somebody reminds us of every day we bask in the glory of typing speculations and assumptions. Some posters even pass on misinformation, with smarmy, "So you're sayings..." (even when you're clearly not saying).

Meanwhile, there will always be those who defend the baseball acumen of a guy who studied Classics at Yale over a diamond lifer who spent parts of six different decades either playing or managing in the big leagues.

According to the media, a few critics of John Henry have even refused interviews to run his club because "he fired Bloom for doing what he was hired to do."

Do they really believe Henry told Bloom to cut payroll, restock the farm, and build the MLB roster bad enough to suck 75% of the time?

But what if the team gets better in 2026?🤭

It was Bloom’s fault for resigning Kike with a raise at that in the first place. It was Cora’s fault for keeping Kike at SS until he was told not to. It’s not really that hard to see that.

Agreed.

My point was about Kike's turn around with LAD and his time at SS before 2023. It was tongue and cheek.

No pressure out in laid back LA. Quite the different story in Boston.

How could anyone "construct" the 2020 team into anything above "poorly?"

Bloom's major additions to the 2021 team largely failed (Richards, Perez, Marwin, Santana. Only Renfroe looked like a great score.) It was the return of ERod and other factors that led to its success, like ERod's return, a great season from Nate and even guys like Dalbec and Barnes coming through. On paper, 2021 looked very similar to 2022. Bloom's "roster construction," IMO looked better, on paper pre-2022 than pre-2021.

Who knows why?

The fact is he sucked for us at SS.

Mondesi babied his injury, all year and blew that hope of depth.

Chang got hurt.

Reyes was too little, too late, and was inexplicably on the bench or at 2B for too long.

Bell is right: many were to blame, including last but not least, Kike, himself.

This complete conjecture.

The Boston media likes to scream and cry about how tough it is in Boston, but only players really know, and I bet if you asked them, some would agree, some would not, and some would think it was a stupid question. It’s completely dependent on the individual.

I am sure there are lots of diehard Dodger fans who think it’s tougher to play there, too..,

Disagree that the atmosphere is a lot different from LA to Boston, and that more players who have played both players would say LA was more laid back. Of course it depends on who you are, and how well you play. What would Mookie say? What would Price say? If you do well Boston is a great place to play. I think JT enjoyed it in Boston this year, and he had a good year, but a good example is Kike, who went from folk hero one year to a punching bag this year. What have you done for me lately, and how you do means everything.

So, basically, Boston has more fans like you who make life miserable for players in a funk than LA does.

More fans like me? Wow! I would say it’s the media that has a lot more to do with it than the fans when it comes to the players unlike Bloom who was a lightning Rod for fans, and media alike.

This may actually defend those who welcome "anyone but Bloom" to run the Red Sox.

Henry could've picked any poster on talksox as CBO four years ago, and -- nothing personal -- there's a good chance Boston would have finished dead last in the AL East at least 75% of the time.

Well, except maybe Jax -- who would've made sure the Yankees were World Series favorites every single season. Uh, wait a minute...

The media gives the fans what they want. In your case: red meat.

The guy is history. Move on. He had his shot and s*** the bed. Good luck to him getting another gig at that level.

I read a good comment from a fan today who said the Red Sox went down hill in this latest chapter when JH fired DD, and hired the Prince Of Malfeasance. Unfortunately the Prince wasn’t just a bad nightmare. It really happened.

I don’t think most fans myself included need the media to tell them what’s going on. Most fans know the most important WL record, and the Red Sox place in the standings. Especially when that place is last place.

I said that, because that is my opinion. You share the opposite opinion. The only way to know for sure is to take a poll of players who have played for both the Red Sox, and the Dodgers. Outside of that I don’t see either of our opinions changing, and that’s fine too.

So you’re saying you don’t know the difference between an opinion and a theory…

Reading that no one wants the job for GM in Boston? Lol

Wonder whether JH became Dan Snyder 2.0 lol

I'm quite sure JH isn't bad in the way Snyder was bad.

But JH's impatience and ever-changing philosophy are real issues, and it's not surprising some qualified people aren't interested in the job.

I'm not so sure his philosophy is as "ever-changing" as it looks.

He may view building championship teams as cycles. He hires people good at building up a foundation by building up the farm (and not trading top prospects,( like Ben & Bloom,) then he hires guys that are good at putting a solid foundation team over the top, with precise spending and trades (DD.) Theo was the one guy who seemed to be pretty good at both tasks at hand, and lasted the longest, but he, too, had some cycle years- ups and downs. He did spend a lot, pretty evenly, but there were a few dipd and splurges, here and there. He also seemed to spread out his mega prospect trades and had a more balanced appoach.

Bell said "qualified people."

The skeletons in your closet should be left there.

It sounds good in theory, but I'm pretty sure all these sub-.500 seasons do not fit in with his master plan.

My qualifications speak for themselves. They have to. I have no idea what they are…
