I'm quite sure JH isn't bad in the way Snyder was bad.

But JH's impatience and ever-changing philosophy are real issues, and it's not surprising some qualified people aren't interested in the job.

I think a bigger issue is who ever gets the job isn’t going to be able to name their own staff. Cora’s the most obvious, but there are also front office personnel who are being kept.

A new GM is going to want to bring in his/her own people; ownership is apparently not allowing that.

I’m ok with Kim Ng…

One of the tricky things here - besides ownership's itchy trigger finger - is that you are inheriting a baseball operation with a lot of people in place (and many of them good). Ng clearly has a lot of corporate experience i.e. being in front offices and should be able to navigate that.

It's my understanding that the "front office" staff kept are all higher-ranked than the GM. The GM does not pick them.

Only Cora might create an issue.

This isn't snark, it's a honest question: to what extent did Epstein, Cherington, Dombrowski or Bloom bring their own people?

Posted
I guess Cherington should be omitted because he was promoted from within.

Yeah. Really, Epstein and Cherington were part of the original mangement team (or at least the one the team settled on after the ownership took over). They didn't have their own people.

I think there are a lot of industry respected baseball folks here that a CBO would be happy to inherit. I think some of the apprehension might very well be dealing with Sam Kennedy.

Theo didn't really have a say as he came along with the group, I believe. Cherington predated the JH purchase so his people would have been already in house. I don't remember DD bringing anyone new in aside from LaRussa. Yuck!

Ng would come in as CBO, or should. In theory, she'd be higher than the people that stayed.

I'd be more confident in Ng than Bloom. She was with the Yankees and Dodgers as Assistant GM for a long time. She made a few good moves as Marlins GM.

Are we looking for a GM or CBO or both?

I thought we are just looking for a GM.

I think Bloom can be successful - but it might have to be in an org that gives him the backing to tear it to the studs.

Ng might be a better fit here where you are trying to turn an aircraft carrier.

A replacement for Bloom's duties - whatever you want to call it.

She actually traded an All-Star for an All-Star. The nerve of some people.

There are two potentially open positions. Maybe Ng is hired and Romero is elevated to GM?

Was there an Exec VP of baseball ops before, or did they just create that for BOH?

You think Sam The Sham could give an update on how the extensive search is going?

Does it matter?

Nobody believes him, anyway.

I think I need a refresher course on job titles and their pecking order.

CBO seems to be an adequate term for the head honcho of roster management.

No, it doesn’t matter, but just to hear him spin, and grin on how the Red Sox are turning candidates away, because there are so many.

Henry is the top dog.

Kennedy is President and CEO.

O'Halleran was promoted from GM to Vice-President of Baseball Operations. He was the GM under Bloom, who was technically the CBO, right? Apparently, he will still be below the new CBO, despite the promotion.

Is that the pecking order, right now?

Principal Owner: Henry

Chairman: Werner

President & CEO: Kennedy

______

Exec. VP of Baseball Operations: O'Halloran

Assistant GMs: Eddie Romero (may be promoted), Raquel Ferreira, and Michael Groopman

Am I missing someone or have the order wrong?

We don't know how many people have turned down an offer for an interview, and any number Kennedy gives us could easily be a lie.

Do we even know, if anyone has been interviewed or scheduled for one?

Outside of Eddie? I don’t believe so.

@JeffPassan

The Miami Marlins wanted to hire a president of baseball operations over general manager Kim Ng, leading to her departure from the organization, sources told ESPN.

When reached, Ng declined comment. But sources said she would've been the No. 2 after constructing a playoff team.

Marlins ownership is such a joke. Embarrassing.

Vito: JH, speaks with a whisper

Tom: Tom

Sonny: Chaim... for whom the toll booths

Michael: AC -- today we settle all roster business

Fredo: Sam... "I'm smart, too"

Luca: Lebron, sleeping with fishes

Johnny Fontaine: Neil Diamond

Clemenza: Papi

Tessio: Manny

Connie: that's Sam, too, shrieking, "Michael!!! You killed my Kluber!"

Carlo: Kluber

Paulie: Kike

Joe Pesci?: Pedroia... not in the current Red Sox movie, but still should be, so they're not so damn soft

So now the Marlins have two job openings too. For potential candidates for a HOBO is it more attractive to work for the Marlins, or to work for JH? A few years back it would be an easy answer, but I’m not so sure now.

It's MUCH more attractive to work for the Sox. It's not even close.

Some more updates on the Red Sox front office search from @bradfo:

- Twins GM Thad Levine and the Red Sox have “elicited mutual interest” in each other.

- And apparently another longtime GM who isn’t currently holding a GM or POBO role has talked with the Red Sox.

Other GM is Sabean probably?

It used to be, but I’m not so sure that it’s not even close. People watched DD get fired after 4 winning seasons, and one year removed from a WS title, so job security, or lack of it I don’t believe is that attractive if for nothing else.
