Soto, Judge, Cole, Stanton and Rodon account for roughly $170mill. The other 35 players on their roster account got the remaining $117mill-ish…

Cole, Stanton, LeMahieu and others signed or extended before 2022 are still more than half the budget, right?

In don’t even count LeMahieu, but the 6 I mentioned are will over half

Yes, but my point was that most of their financial obligations are from 2 or more years ago. Rodon was the biggest FA signing in 2 years.

Judge actually reached free agency…

@ChrisCotillo

Sources: Red Sox remain among the most aggressive on Teoscar Hernandez, who has a handful of interested teams. Angels heavily involved too. Could get a 4-year deal if bidding gets there.

I thought bres-slow said pitching was top priority

I think we all know that the Sox HAVE to add some SP before ST. Who do we think they will add?? I sure hope we don't end up trading one of our top 3 prospects to add SP when there were lots of quality SP available on the FA market and any trade will mean we likely will need to extend a contract at a cost similar or greater than the available FA SP

5 studs to be sure. we are all set now. Full throttle to 2024

I fear that is what they meant by full throttle. Well, add Paxton.

We know we have to, but we won’t,

Mata might have the highest chance of a DFA out of all those without options or Rule 5 restrictions.

All the guys we added have options, even Campbell & Chrissell.

I see several DFA options better than any of these guys, except Criswell.

I’m not saying any of these guys were great additions. I expected way better. I do think 4 of the 5 are better than our bottom 4 pitchers on the 40, now.

But wait there's more! Rumors now have the Red Sox interested in acquiring Lucas Giolito.

With LA Angels he had a 6.89 ERA, 6.81 FIP, and 1.46 WHIP before moving to Cleveland where he put up an equally uninspiring 7.04 ERA, 6.94 FIP, and 1.50 WHIP.

Looks like a Red Sox "buy low" because he's cheap and maybe he'll bounce back to his career averages of 4.43 ERA, 4.44 FIP, and 1.25 WHIP.

So if he "bounces back" we'll only need to score 5 runs per game to win when he makes an appearance. If he doesn't bounce back, we'll need to score 7+ runs per game.

Woohoo, genius move by Breslow! But hey I'm sure he'll be CHEAP so that will please Henry and FSG.

Made 21 starts to begin the season pitched 121 innings with a 3.71 ERA. is still only 28.

If you can get Giolito right, he could be the best signing of the offseason.

I’m ok with Giolito. He’s light years better than the current best pitcher added so far - Cooper Criswell.

If you can get him right, he would be one of the best pitchers in this class. And it's not like he's an old washed up Corey Kluber, he looked pretty damn good for the first 2/3 of the season. For 3 years in a row he wasa top 11 candidate for CY YOUNG, and that's only two yers removed, and he looked returned to form for most of last year.

Something happened, this is what good teams do, they bring guys like him in and fix him. Sox have just sucked at it lately. Breslow and company might be able to get him back on track.

I can FIX HIM said every abused girlfriend ever. LOL.

It's the reclamation project dream. I get it. Maybe he can get better. But it feels like a desperation move to make when the budget has been tightened up.

Regular menu items are not available, it's time to dumpster dive!

Right, because developing pitchers is just like beating the s*** out of your girlfriend.

Also, you do realize that every team does this? even teams like LA/NY/TX/PHIL bring guys in that they like and think they can fix.

Lets wait and see what the opening day 26 man actually looks like. Or better yet, what pitchers are you bringing in to fix the rotation?

Why is 2/3 of a good season out of his last 6/3 all that special or better than Kluber’s 2022 numbers for 3/3 of that season?

Giolito was also not so good for his first 18 starts of 2021

I think it's self explanatory the differences between Kluber and Giolito

Giolito has not been good, except for 4 months out of his last 12 and was good for 3 of his previous 6 months.

He may bd better than Kluber looked after 2022, but this is the same old same old crap.

And how many of those teams have had last place finishes 3 or the last 4 or 5 years?

Texas finished 4th in ‘22

5th in ‘20 and ‘21, so 3 of the last 4 years.
