Texas finished 4th in ‘22

5th in ‘20 and ‘21, so 3 of the last 4 years.

I meant 2 of the last 4 years.

4th or 5th in 3 of 4.

I’ll take the Sox from 2019-2022 over the Rangers.

And how many of those teams have had last place finishes 3 or the last 4 or 5 years?

Irrelevant. I'm not saying you ONLY do that, I'm just saying in a vaccuum there's nothing wrong with those types of moves. All teams make them.

But wasn't the argument that the RS were fine because they were acting just like LA/NY/Tx/PHIL? Now you say we don't want to act like that? So how are the RS going to get better? by signing the right kind of boring replaceable journeymen? rather than the wrong kind of boring replaceable journeymen?

What’s irrelevant to you might not be irrelevant to others.🙈🤭.

Facts are facts. Opinions are opinions.

Fact. All teams make fringe roster decisions. All teams fill out there roster. Even heavy spenders take on reclamation projects. That's a fact.

Opinion: I'm mad at the Red Sox because they do what every other team does as well. Because they aren't not doing the thing I want them to do.

My opinion. It's not a zero sum game. Hate the Red Sox for not making the big boy moves to improve this team. Don't hate them for making the fringe moves that everyone makes.

One seems logical. One is cynical.

I think you are confusing me with someone else.

We need quantity before. Now, we need proven quality.

I’m not for adding journeymen or players that we can try to fix, unless it’s for the 39th of 40th guy on the roster- not our 5th starter.

We need 3-4 very good players. We have gotten none, so far.

I just corrected the Texas not ducking recently comment.

Would anyone be happy, if we end the winter with the additions?

Giolito

E Cabrera

Drury

Teoscar

Even this might prove to be more than what we end up with.

Posted
there is still time to add better players than last year, but by this time last winter, we had added Martin, Jansen and Yoshida. And many felt we waited too long, then.

Yes. Right now I would. Much rather have those 4 along with Cooper Criswell than Criswell alone.

Of course I’m still holding out for Matt Chapman, who is still available and criminally short of interest rumors…

If I asked you this in November, would the answer be the same.

No. Chapman was higher on my list, and I want Teoscar Hernandez on the Sox about as much as I want cavities in my molars…

Wow was you for 4 years.

Now, it seems to bother you.

The 4 years of gloom, and doom are over. It’s a new beginning. Don’t worry. Be happy.😜

Matt Chapman? Wow! Last year it was Gallo, and before that you were all for JBJ. No chance, no chance, and bad choice on JBJ happening.

Chapman would be an upgrade. Great defensive third baseman. But the Sox will never do it.

I won’t ridicule you if you are right.

The upgrade at 3B on D would be partially offset by forcing Yoshida to LF and Duran to CF, unless we trade one.

And it saddens me.

Why would any pitcher come to Boston to pitch in front of that atrocious defense? “Hey let’s balloon my ERA until I’m unsignable!!”

I like players who can actually field. Not sure why you think that is such a bad idea. The Sox defense these last few years has created more runs than dairy products and carnival food combined…

I agree Chapman would look good at 3B, and with Story at SS would provide great D on the L side of the infield, but since the Red Sox already have a 3B, and a 1B, which I don’t see moving to DH anytime soon I think of Chapman coming to the Red Sox as slim, and none.

I can admit it - I also hoped the Sox would sign IKF. Even if it was for 2b, which he has never played, but could probably do so at Gold Glove levels.

But I don’t think I mentioned him in any posts this off-season…

Actually if you’re advocating for acquiring pre-arb starting pitching, that level of talent might require Casas in a trade. If so, it does free up 1b for Devers and 3b for Chapman.

I think it is more likely the Sox sign redundant plsyers and trade vets other than Casas. I’ve seen columns about signing Robert Stephenson and then trading Kenley Jansen. Certainly any deal for Teoscar will be followed up with a trade of an outfielder.

why the need for Teoscar now that we have the juicer?? He is hardly a stud and not worth NEAR what he will likely get

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to get players who can actually field. The Red Sox at times have looked like Little Leaguers playing D the last two years, but the cost has to work, which would be to much for Chapman, and you have to be able to hit some, which JBJ didn’t do again after he left Boston.

I agree, unless we trade Yoshida (unlikely) or Duran.

If we could package Duran with a non top 4 prospect or two, or add Houck or Whitlock for a top pitcher with 3+ years of control, signing Teoscar might make sense.
