Haven't we been saying that since Bloom sent Graterol back after confusing his medicals with a stanza of "Beowulf"?

Just give us something, Red Sox, in a trade that doesn't always have to include a starting big league outfielder... There's got to be some arms available that are more than appetizers (though if it has to be just a few lopped limbs of calamari, at least throw in a few hot cherry peppers).

i said at the time that was a DUMB move

Maybe.

But I doubt they went stagnant with the scouting and development processes over the decade plus between Lester and Houck.

Bloom tried something new. Maybe he thought of converting athletes. Maybe he thought he could trade better players for pitching. Maybe both.

But the act of simply drafting pitchers because you need them has been a failure far more often than not..

Several years ago the Angels drafted 100% pitchers. That draft has been an absolute monumental bust for them.

A. Pitchers are riskier

B. If you can’t develop pitchers, you’re just wasting your picks.

Sox obviously can’t develop pitchers, or at least have a very poor track record at it. If they went pitcher heavy the last several year the state of the organization would likely be much much worse

If you want to draft and develop more pitchers, you should build a system to do so FIRST and simply not just take pitchers.

Breslow is apparently doing just this

I submit that he should be referred to as Logan Allen II.

Logan Allen I pitched for Cleveland in 2022.

Logan Allen II pitched for Cleveland in 2023.

That is some crazy randomness.

It doesn’t help that they’re both from Florida…

You need to move on.

You miss more with pitchers.

i am pretty sure we missed with Yorke and if you think he is going to bring us a young top P prospect in return I have some property to sell you. We drafted him fairly high at least 4 years ago and yet the team is said to be in the market for a 2B this year. so no I won't move on. I'm not saying draft P every year in the 1st rd. but to draft nothing but middle infielders year after year in the 1st round is insane. Sox don't have a real top P prospect anywhere near MLB ready if even at all in the system. And ps--YES we should have taken Graterol instead of "holding out" for the immortal Jeter Downs.

We likely missed on that draft, but #17 is not such a big deal.

My idea of trading Yorke was in a package with Mayer for a pitcher. That’s basically why we’ve been saying it’s okay drafting SSs every draft. Trade done for pitching.

12/325. At that price, he likely wanted to be a Dodger, shutting out my "money first" mantra. There's no way at least the Mets weren't up to 325.

He turned down our offer of 10 years at 300 for 12 years at 325????

I think that was debunked, but I'll bet dollars to doughnuts at least one team offered 350 regardless of length.

Well, we don’t know the other bids yet…

I'd have paid $336M/12.

It does look like Cohen doesn't get every shiny toy he wants.

There are not many options left for the Sox, but there are some.

It's looking more and more like a total full throttle sham.

Dodgers have one hell of a roster. Will definitely be interesting to see how that all unfolds

Dodgers are spending like cows. I mean can the Yankees even compete with them? Baseball has gotten ridiculous to be honest.

Be ready for another pitiful season. Baseball has become a joke. Dodgers are spending money lol drunken sailors. Did the Yankees even during their heyday when wild like this?

Still don’t think they’re better than Braves on paper. Braves got some good young players especially the starting pitching.

Yes, and worse, IMO.

It seemed like forever they always signed the top guy, year after year, but going into the 2014 season wasn't that long ago.

They signed 3 of the top 5 FAs:

2. Tanaka

3. Ellsbury

5. McCann

plus #11 Carlos Beltran

They also re-signed Kuroda to more than Beltran and Jeter to almost as much.

This was while still having ARod, Tex and CC still on the books.

Firing Bloom was a stall move by JH & Co to get fan forbearance by being able to say that Breslow has a new plan that will take 4 years to reach fruition. Kick the can down the road. I understand that if the deals being offered don't make sense , then don't participate in craziness. The price of poker is what it is for big market ( national fan base ) teams , so it looks like the Sox ownership has lost interest and folded.

But the line is moving and nothing to improve the team ( Dugo by subtraction?) has been done. In fact, the roster is less by multiple players ( Turner, Duvall, Verdugo ) than it was September 30.

Remember that year, way back when, the Dodgers followed up on the winter they signed Betts to an extension and Bauer to $34M a year with this...

162/6 Freeman

60/4 Chris Taylor

21M/1 Trea Turner

17M/1 Bellinger & Kershaw

(Plus, they still had half Price and J Turner on the books.)

How did 2022 workout for the mighty Dodgers?

Pretty amazing though:

2019: Ryu, Kimbrell & extend Kershaw at $31M x3

2020: They pay Betts and pay half Price

2021: Extend Betts, sign Bauer & trade for Scherzer & Trea Turner

2022: Freeman (extend Chris Taylor plus some high arbs)

2023: Syndergaard & JD

2024: Ohtani & Yamo
