Huh?

Yesterday AM:

It's probably 5-10% chance. Sox probably see themselves as being darkhorses now from what I heard from Carrabis/Mazz on today's pod. There is a belief that if they miss out on Yamamoto, that they will NOT go big on another pitcher like Monty or Snell this season. They would wait until next season or explore a trade. They mentioned the Sox track record of bringing in guy via trade like Pedro, Beckett, Schilling and Sale rather than via FA. It's just harder to do as the Sox don't have the pitching talent to give back. Would have to maybe be a 3 team deal.

There is a big risk that the Sox continue to somewhat punt and not be a top tier team because Henry feels he's already gotten what he needs out of the franchise and that people will show up to Fenway regardless if they are Sox fans or visiting fans. They may be happy to spend in the 10-15th range and hope to splurge once in a while.

I think Yamamoto going to the Dodgers is better than if he went to the Yanks or Mets. One, Henry can't bitch about Cohen like last year. Two, he won't be in the AL East.

The only good news so far this off-season is, outside of the Yankees acquiring Soto and Verdugo, the AL East teams have all been equally inactive.

The Orioles have brought in Kimbrel, but he’s a step down from Bautista.

The Rays have not added anyone and lost Glasnow.

The Blue Jays haven’t added anyone and somehow decided to stockpile a few former Sox coaches as their big off-season plan.

So at least the gap isn’t widening…

We'll see if they make a couple because of Ying and Yang.

Werner: wants the stars for his live action baseball tv show on NESN

Henry: wants to show everyone how smart he is by getting undervalued guys and succeeding

I don’t mind the strategy of finding under-appreciated talent and using it to succeed. But at some point, you have to go get that talent…

Another 78-84 season should be fine. Threepeat, baby!

That's a little different from the team saying they're out.

Wow, seems like you're already making excuses for BreSLOW! The BreSLOW Brigadier has logged on!!!

Well if they aren’t going to make any moves…

As of now we're worse than last year. But they should be able to do enough to make a run at .500.

Ryan Pepiot CY incoming!

Deluca will fit in well with all those other annoying Rays generic players that beat the crap out of the Sox.

I thought Pepiot might be worth mentioning. But is he a step up or down from Glasnow?

In all honesty it wouldn't surprise me if they decide to move Breslow from CBO to some sort of new Pitching Guru Incarnate position.

The problem is that everyone is trying the same thing. It's not as easy to grab those guys. I feel like the game has passed Henry by.

That also applies to Tampa, Baltimore and Toronto, too. They all lost free agents they haven’t replaced yet…

The Red Sox stand tall in their firm stance against paying for starting pitching. Mighty warriors of fiscal restraint!

I know some people want to put the Coke bottles back up, but what if we just put up a giant checkbook and a ledger sheet?

How can you tell since he hasn’t started playing yet?

Yes, that is the new goal. It's no longer the playoffs, it's .500. Unless they actually start to make moves.

He's been playing the game since he first owned the Marlins. It worked for a while. Since letting Mookie walk, it seems like he's been constantly caught with his pants down.

Terrific! Misery loves company.

The good news on that front is only the Dodgers are making moves. And at some point, they will at least run out of roster spots, if not actual money.

So there are options left…

Tampa will always be the same team no matter who leaves. That's the one thing that's certain. They'll be a playoff contender that isn't good enough to win a WS.

Pepiot will be more likely to stay healthy.

He's only as good as the people who work for him. Things started going to s*** the moment Epstein departed, really.

If they don't sign anyone this offseason, it's ownership directed. Crag is just trying to run a midmarket team. Colorado Rockies East.

Ok, but right now Toronto is MLB’s biggest also-ran. Baltimore has a loaded farm that they really need to pan out, especially since they refuse to trade any of them…

The GOAT. They had the best manager and the best GM, but it wasn't good enough. Now they are in an eternal quagmire and can't get out of their own way.
