Regardless it doesn't matter. I specifically laid out examples of prospects who were pumped up and actually made it to the bigs. So, call me in 2-3 years if Anthony is in the big leagues and performing like a star, and then we can talk.

Devers MLB player

Bogaerts MLB player

Bello MLB player.

Anthony NOT MLB player.

Also, I know very well rankings are taken with a grain of salt, even the #1 prospect can go completely bust. I just put more stock into sox prospects than other scouting bodies. It's simple math, more eyes, better reports.

I agree that SPs has done a fine job, over the year. They miss on some, like everyone does, but they do seem to do a better job than the national services.

Some pretty big misses in the past (top 3 only):

Michael Bowden #3

Lars Anderson #1

Casey Kelly #1

Ryan Kalish #1 (It's not like we had great prospects in this era)

Wil Middlebrooks #1 (same as Kalish)

Anthony Ranaudo #2 (same as Middy & Kalish)

Allen Webster #3

Blake Swihart #1

Henry Owens #2

Jay Groome #1

Michael Chavis #1

DHern #2

Dalbec #2

Downs #2

Sox have a horrible record of drafting pitching in the first round too

Every team does. For every success, you can find two misses…

They have refined their scouting in recent years and are better now than ever. I'm not going to vouch for them back in the Lars Anderson days. Also, just looking at overall rankings isn't great as sometimes prospects just don't work out and sometimes the system has just been really awful. I used Flores and Jimenez as examples of them giving too much helium to toolsy DSL/FCL guys because sometimes they do get caught up in a hype train and then get stuck with a prospect being too high in their rankings for a while. Other times, they are too slow to move on pushing other guys up. They've really been a roller coaster on Blaze Jordan too.

Blaze Jordan is a difficult case, so it's not surprising he's up and down on the rankings.

Why? His tools haven't changed. He's the same exact player with the same exact issues.

The issue is his conditioning and defense. From what I've read (and this is a guy that particularly interests me because of his power projections), how playable he looks at any position not named 1B long-term is what fluctuates his ranking the most. IF he reaches his ceiling, the bat plays everywhere, but he'd be much more valuable at 3B (or even LF) than at 1B or DH.

The thing with Jordan is his hit tool, or how it will play up against advanced pitching.

When you have those questions as a 17 year old it’s easy to shrug your shoulder and go “ehh” because everyone has those issues.

But he’s 20 in the upper minors now. And while the stats look nice, I believe all his home runs are you breaking pitchers, he struggles against velocity. Those great stats won’t translate to the big league level if he can’t fix that problem.

The pitchers are better, they all throw fast, and they scout the s*** out of you. They will find your holes and expose it.

Highly ranked, seem to fall to them.

The Sox will need the money to sign these younger guys, which means you can expect to see the rest of the day to be college seniors. All or most will be college players until round 11.

Sox just drafted their future 3B. Just turned 18 too, very young. Sox love that age projection scale

isn't Mayer our future shortstop? or Romero?

Yup, you only need to have one in the system. That is so very true! Great point!

You need the others to trade for the needs you actually do have, like a right hand power bat below the age of 30 .

Watch it! Don't you know we can't trade for actual needs until we're finally good (even while glaring holes in need of upgrade prevent us from being good enough to replace them)...

What they really need is a starting rotation, not a "right handed power bat."

Your takes are horrible.

Correct -- I've only been saying that the past four years.

Yes, you've been the only one. Today though, you shout from the rooftops that Jorge f***ing Soler would somehow fix the ills of this team. A guy who has been over 1 fWAR only twice in his whole damn career.

Thank you for contributing to the discussions about the Red Sox.

It's a better contribution than trying (and failing) at sarcasm. Stick to what other posters actually say.

Yes sir -- from now on, I'll follow the strict forum posting rules as only defined by the tips of your erudite fingertips.

"add pitching, add a bat" (whispered a fan during the All-Star break)...

... some experts who take posts out of context actually offer alternatives; others just disparage others' opinions and reply with blasphemy.

How dare anyone post something on their forum that they don't have to read.
