fair enough but I don't see that as a huge thing given where he was drafted 4 drafts ago.

He was drafted 17th. That's below the halfway line. He was a HS player. There was no 2020 minor league season.

He has played in 2.5 seasons, so don't make it sound like 4.

He got hurt one year.

He may end up sucking, but maybe Drohan or Jordan salvage that 4 round draft for you.

Do you have to absolutely f*** up this thread whining about or defending Bloom? Take that somewhere else please.

One thing I always thought would make this place better is if threads stayed on topic. Like, we can talk about all the stuff we talk about now, nothing changes but like….organization.

Lead by example…which I’m NOT doing right now. Damnit!!!!!

We haven’t gone completely off the rails, I think we are ok.

How many? That’s a great question, allow me to answer it for you.

If you continue to follow amateur baseball and the draft you will see this is the norm. Most position players are up the middle. The best player on your high school team is almost ALWAYS a short stop. The vast majority of MLB infielders were drafted as SS, the vast majority of LF/RFers were CFers in high school and college. Sometimes infielders move to the outfield as well.

If you can play a good SS, you can transition anywhere aside from Catcher and Pitcher.

Take notice on who most of the position players are on other teams as well.

Worth noting - both JT Realmuto and Brandon Inge were drafted as shortstops and then converted to catcher. I’m sure there are others…

This is a good point... but also reminds me of a common quote about catching prospects -- with promise -- when scouting reports say, "a chance to stick at catcher."

It's just another example of the best players growing up; yes, they all play shortstop... but that's only when they're not pitching or catching.

My problem with Yorke is that he was rated at least 100 spots below where he was drafted and Bloom likely could have gotten him in the 3rd rd as we didn't have a 2nd rd pick that year. Hey I've already resigned myself to the fact that Bloom will be drafting another HS hitter because that's what pretty much always does. If the guy ends up being a player he likely won't be in Boston til 2027 or maybe late 2026.

You don't know if he would have been around for the third round.

Look, even if Yorke ends up being a swing and miss, that draft does not look bad, so far.

Our farm rankings have been on the rise.

He added several prospects in other ways that have already contributed, and to me, they sort of make up for all the HS picks that are farther away.

The rankings are speculative, but it looks good to me, so far.

BTW Chase Dollander a RHP from Tennessee is ranked #14 right where we pick. at #11 is another pitcher Noble Meyer. Could he slide to #14? Hurston Waldrep is another SP we could have in our decisions. I will tell you that I am gonna lose it if Bloom takes some guy ranked well south of #14. Edited by Randy Red Sox

Rated by who? MLB? ESPN? Ba? You have 3 boards, you don’t see the other 30 team boards. He could have gone off the board with the next pick.

You also save money, and spread it around, a very popular strategy employed by MANY well drafting teams

I wouldn’t judge a guy on his age, look at how long it took Duran to pop, with that said I think Jordan has a low probability of being a regular big leaguer. With his defense, and speed he will HAVE to hit, and there’s questions about his ability to hit velocity.

But, he’s got a chance. Guys like him pop

Getting closer to the Sox pick.

Unless someone falls, I think we see a deal. Isn’t there a high school mass pitcher ranked in the back of the first? Would be a nice change of pace and save some money

Well 4 of the top 10 picks so far have been pitchers. just saying. keeping my fingers crossed for Waldrep but like I said I am going to lose it if Bloom takes some guy ranked way below where we are picking.
Well said. When I said "tied," I meant factoring in the higher risk pitchers bring to a draft.

Those guys were ranked high, there’s way way way too many bats left ranked high. You’re almost guaranteed to see a bat

Rated by pretty much everybody. There was general SHOCK when Bloom took Yorke with that 1st rd pick.

Based on whose rankings? Like I said before a ranking is just ones guys board, boards differ vastly.

Mookie Betts wasn’t ranked a first round pick by the “epxerst”

And if there was a redraft he’s probably be taken higher so that makes the puck look good

Houck and Eldridge are probables too.

The best highway ranked guys, there’s a lot of short stops haha

There see I'm not so stupid after all. We need a good C prospect too.

They drafted him not because he was a catcher, but because he was the best rated talent available, and a guy who should not have been available at 14
