Remember the old "No signing any SP'er over 30 Rule" that got broken, later on?

There was no rule. I think it's just another of our urban myths. Can anyone find what Henry actually said about that?

I expect our WINDOW to be wide open for the 5th title next year.

Right Moon?

Depends on the rotation.

Unlike the last few years, Bloom actually signed more players to 2 or more year deals than one and dones.

If we trade for an ace at the deadline, the window could be 2023. If he's under team control for more than 2 months, maybe the window can be longer.

I'm not saying we are an ace away from being the faves, but I do think an ace puts us squarely in the top 5.

Is there a Castillo type pitcher out there we can trade for and extend at a reasonable price? Are we prepared to trade Mayer? Does Casas still have the high trade value of last year? Would we have to include Rafaela or Drohan/Bello?

If we trade Mayer, we may have a middle IF hole for many years to come.

Not sure what the right thing to do is, but to me, it's all about building from the top of the rotation.

The window is only open a crack until then.

I must be in the minority but I just don't get excited for a Kluber start.

I think this might be one thing this whole board agrees on: nobody gets "excited" by a Kluber start. If he can just be serviceable and keep us in the game, we may only need he and Pivetta to be durable and decent #4/5s.

Maybe...

1. Henry learned from the grief over the over 30 Rule.

2. It's an unwritten rule.

3. It's not set at $10M, but it's just worked out that way, but the general rule is don't spend big on an ace, until we are ready to pounce.

I'm hoping the answer is #3, and that day is soon.

What’s the OG quote from 2013/14 tho?

Not sure but Henry specifically says in that article that there are “exceptions to every rule.

The bottom line is that quote in that article highlights exactly what moon said, whether or not Henry published a rule or not. He clearly states he was against those type of signings before Price…

Microfiche?

Let me first crank up my Model T before asking Madge to call Klondike 5252…

But if someone was to tell me I am getting a ticket for a Sox game, and if I have my option of dates, it would NOT be on the date Kluber is pitching.

Ok enough of my whinning.

You misspelled whining.

I don't get to Sox games any more, so to me the issue is whether the game is worth watching on my computer.

And this year the answer is a resounding yes, and that includes Kluber, who brings almost nothing to the mound--except tons of chutzpah. I'm serious. If Bello had Kluber's repertoire, he'd still be in the low minors.

To me, the season looked to be an exciting one from day one.

with very good offenses are almost always fun to watch.

It's fun watching good pitching, and I wish we could have mor fun with that, going forward.

Setting aside all of my belly aching, at some point everyone of these starters need take control of their own fate.

Go out there and throw seven innings of shutout ball.

That"s how you secure a spot in the rotation.

Take it out of Cora's hands.

Fair enough. The question is does this mean the offers to Lester when he became a free agent were bogus?

I've always believed this to be so. They knew he'd never take that last gasp final offer. It was all for PR.

I feel the same about Bogey. They never gave him an offer they knew or even thought he might take. It scared them that he might have taken $160M/6 early on, so they never offered it. (I, for one, have my doubts he'd have taken that or even $200M/7.)

These days, 7 IP and 3 ER makes you a team ace.

And 7 innings of shutout ball is a unicorn. I think Whitlock has our only 7 inning start?

You could certainly be right, but it's all speculation until Henry's deathbed confessions.

@PeteAbe

#RedSox announced they returned James Paxton from his rehab assignment.

What this means (and I should have been more clear) is that the rehab assignment is over. He'll be with the team here in Atlanta and will be added to the active roster and as was reported yesterday, he'll likely face the Cardinals this weekend.

It’s another arm, but whether it’s a good arm, or not time will tell. It is time to find out though.

Any word on Joely, who has been pitching in AAA?

We could use another LHP in the pen.

What’s up with all the “unicorn” references for things that don’t exist anymore?

“Unicorns” are for things that never were. (Because unicorns never existed.) Dinosaurs, dodo birds, slubber doffers - those are for things that existed once but not anymore…

The simplest answer I can give is that this is a place I feel a license to be stupid when the mood strikes.

Sheesh, what a grinch (I suppose those don't exist, either).

Google "unicorn lunch box" and then try telling all those kids that carry them that their hands are actually empty...

Edit: what an idiot I am... of course their hands aren't empty; they're holding cell phones. The unicorn lunch boxes are in their backpacks.
