Even if he did, Cohen had an outer Cohen that can outbid him…

Don't you think Steve would be wised up by the lack of results from his massive spending spree so far? :D

We're treading water.

What needs to happen internally for the Sox to get into playoffs?

Would you consider trading Paxton to a contender such as Texas?

That's the move that the Rays would make.

Thoughts?

We only trade Paxton if we're out of it, right?

Yes....I'm not sure if we're in it.

If Sale does not return, I'm afraid it's over.

I don't want to over spend

on a player in July.

In 2000 Pedro had a WHIP of .737. In 1999 and 2002 he had a WHIP of .923.

...in the majors!

... in an era when every batter order was a Thanksgiving Day parade of inflatable balloons, with the Michelin Man and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man hitting 3-4.

The more you look back on it, the more you realize that Duquette really set up the Sox great run after he was gone.

Good point. Epstein will forever be remembered for the curse-breaking on his watch, but all he was really doing was following a plan approved of by a lot of posters: adding the finishing pieces to an already really good core assembled by his predecessor -- Pedro, Manny, Damon, Tek, Lowe, Wake etc.

In other words, it was ok for Theo to spend the prospects and cash needed to acquire Schilling and Foulke, only because the Red Sox were already a top World Series contender (but imagine the uproar if talksox existed when both fell apart in their last year's in Boston). But to his credit, Theo was relentless in upgrading positions and bench depth -- and he added David Ortiz...

... and ARod, who luckily landed with his blue lipstick in the Bronx.

Saying that for years..he "saddled" Sox with Manny, what a great signing, completely worth the entire 160 mil.

You mean the GM we signed from Tampa North by Northwest?

(Agreed!)

Jose Awfulman.

Jose Awfulman.

If that was the extent of the bad and somewhat large contract players left behind, I’d say NOT BAD!

Offerman did excel at OBP in an era where no one looked at OBP. Defensively he was a huge question mark unless playing 1b.

The biggest issue I remember about Offerman at the time was that shortly after, Roberto Alomar signed for only a little more…

Inside you there are two Cohens...

If I do,, neither of them have much money and both of them are somewhat indigestible…

Traded Jamie Moyer for Darren Bragg.

Traded for Wil Cordero, the Enmanuel Valdez of the 1990’s, but with off field issues…

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Corey Kluber got absolutely crushed Thursday back here where his major league career began.

He went 3 ⅓ innings of relief, allowing seven runs, 11 hits (two homers) and one walk while striking out one. The Red Sox lost 10-3 to the Guardians at Progressive Field.

Why is he still taking a spot on our 40 man roster?

Bloom you f***ed up. Own it and move on.

They are going to keep him around until they get a determination on Sale's health. If Sale is done for the year, Kluber is the 5th starter.

Pivetta would be a less terrible choice.

Joe Jacques (pronounced Jakes) being called up today. Needs to be added to the 40 man somehow.

Duvall is also supposed to be added back onto the roster today as well coming of the 60 day IL.

Agreed.

There was nothing wrong with giving Kluber a chance. But it’s time to move on. It didn’t work. This has been obvious.

I know it’s possible for a pitcher to just have a bad year. Josh Beckett was awful his first year in Boston, too. But this is not the case here. Kluber is over 10 years older than Beckett was and clearly has fallen off a cliff. He’s not going to recover or make any adjustments. He serves no purpose but to bolster the stats of opposing hitters…

Since the start of May, Casas ranks 24th/195 in xwOBA among hitters with 100+ plate appearances. Here's his closest match: Matt Olson.

xwOBA combines BB%, K%, and quality of contact.

xwOBA, now there's an acronym that really rolls off the tongue. :D
