Duran's only chance to start seems to be as a LF'er or DH, and I'm not sure he can hit well enough to be a plus at either spot.

I'm okay with Verdugo in RF, but I still think our current OF consists of three LF'ers and a journeyman 4th OF'er who is over producing. Kike's injury and the whole JBJ fiasco was an total disaster to this team. Add to this, Dugo's failure to progress over the past 2 seasons, and to me, the OF (being 3 positions) was a bigger disaster than 1B, the pen or the rotation.

Of all the problems the SOX have had this season I don't believe Dugo was one of them. I, also, didn't believe VAZ was a problem either.

Right on both counts.

I think the main reason they traded Vaz was that Bloom liked the prospects we got back enough.

A perfect example of Bloom trading a quarter for in this case two dimes and pissing off two his best ballplayers in the process.

We all get Bogaerts was unhappy with the deal, but it’s nothing a 6 year $150 mill contract offer won’t solve.

Devers might be more inconsolable and require $270mill over 9…

They may find other teams offering the same money more palatable.

Then thought he could make things better with a clubhouse meeting. How did that work out? From bad to worse.

Hosmer isn’t much of a hitter. The internal solution might be Hosmer at 1b and Casas/Dalbec at DH. At least until they DFA or trade Hosmer..

Casas is likely a better fielder at 1B than Hosmer.

If they both are in the line-up, I think Casas is at 1B and Hosmer DH.

What makes anyone think he has any ability to play 2b? He was moved to the OF presumably for a reason.

And what exactly is a “natural position”? Where he played in high school and college?

We just know OG is not his natural position. DH is where he fields best.

That is more than balanced by the fact it pissed you off.

Bogaerts is going to get paid. I'm thinking that at this point the Red Sox would have to overwhelm him to keep him. he has been to the top of the mountain for sure. Some of his ultimate decision might have to do with what are the chances the team he chooses to play for have of winning moving forward. it is possible and even likely that he might leave money on the table to play for a winner. The Red Sox might not be that team.

If Bogeys agrees to stay in Boston I suspect there will be a lot of non economic issues on the table.

If the Sox offered him 6/$150, his agent might advise him to take it. I would imagine his ceiling is the $175/7 Semien got last year…

That all depends on whether he really wants to stay in beantowne or not.

Between the two I would rather keep Devers.

His ceiling doesn’t change. In fact taking Boston out probably hurts him

In my opinion, bogey is a cornerstone of this organization!

But cold hard analytics might say differently.

1.) just 9 taters on the season.

2.) defense and range are nothing to write home about.

3.) a third into august and he only has 47 RBI’s.

There might be a better solution in free agency this summer.

I said nothing of the ceiling changing. Just if there are competitive offers, where he wants to be certainly matters.

I think the solution was bought during last year's free agency, his name is trevor story.

He's on his way to another 5WAR season. So what if he only has 9HR. Sometimes players have off year for that. He can easily bounce back and hit 25HR next year

Very true.

He could also easily begin a slow, then more quick decline. Who knows?

I hope we can keep Devers & Bogey, but if Henry keeps restricting budgets over the next few year, not having quality players supporting these two, it won't do any of any good.

I would be shocked if the Red Sox offer JD Martinez a QO, he isn't the same hitter he was in 2018. JD will accept the QO and the Red Sox don't want him around next year--he contributes nothing besides his bat and his bat is clearly on the decline. The Red Sox probably didn't want him around this year but unfortunately JD exercised the option to stay.

While I would estimate that there is basically no chance the Red Sox extend a QO for JD, the Eovaldi situation is harder to figure out. If he finishes the season strong, I suspect he gets a QO; if not, the Red Sox don't bother.

Bogaerts will be the third best SS on the free agent market behind Correa and Turner, no? I wouldn't bring back Bogaerts--I would make the splash for C.Correa who is a few years younger than Bogaerts.

If the Red Sox move Story to SS, they create a hole at second with no one to fill it. But maybe Bloom has some kind of special plan for Valdez at 2b and that is why he traded for him. I like Valdez better in LF, let Duran and Valdez battle in spring training for the starting LF position with an awesome keystone combination of Correa and Story at SS and 2b.

This would be a sexy infield:

1b: Hosmer

2b: Story

SS: Correa

3b: Devers

I think the Sox are calculating that Correa snd Turner are going to suppress Bogaerts market, and the money he thinks is out there for him is not.

Xander is getting paid, if the Sox won’t budge someone will pay him more, but I suspect when they money they though was there is not the Sox could probably match an offer to keep Bogaerts, and that number is one his side would reject right now.
