Now that Khanle has signed with the Yankees…was he a must have for the Red Sox?

Kahnle was always going to be a polarizing figure on this forum. Had the Sox signed him, he’d be another injury-prone dumpster dive. But since we lost him to the Yankees, now he was not valued properly.

I never thought of him as anything. He was not one of the relievers I liked this off-season (two of whom have already signed elsewhere) and I would have assumed him to be a health risk…

The Dodgers had the best team in MLB , but they seem to be losing a lot of guys. I wonder what their plan is ?

Correa, Bogaerts or Swanson…

No worries. Bloom couldn’t get it done. He is not valuing these guys accurately if he keeps getting outbid. Abreu was reportedly his #1 target and Bloom’s offer was not even in the ballpark, and Abreu has been open about wanting to play at Fenway.

He's bidding on what he thinks they are worth on the field, not what they are worth on the open market.

Sox don't need that contract sitting on the IL. Good for the Yankees.

That isn’t going to get it done.

Depends on what "getting it done" means.

The trouble is that this year, the class is pretty weak. Even with all of the Sox extra cash, it wasn't the right year to be rebuilding from FA.

If the Sox have 5, 6 or 7 holes to fill, they can’t go trying to play bidding war for a DH…

Is this year's class really weaker than other years? What did a really strong year look like?

More and more guys are getting locked up so FA in general isn't as robust as it once was. Or at least, that' what my brain is telling me right now.

Every year is different. While pretty thin, there seem to be a lot of mid-level talented starters on the market. A market that has barely budged and one that I was hoping the Sox were willing to pluck two guys from.

In this case, I'm glad he underbid, but I agree with your point made.

If we do add 8-9 players to the 40, there will have to be a lot of trades of DFA's. I see 3-5 DFA candidates, but they others are tradable.

Maybe when Bloom says add 8-9 players, he is including a couple 2 or 3 for 1 trades and 6-7 signings.

Bloom just creating fake interest to drive the price up on Cashman who's diving into pretty expensive dumpsters.

Brilliant move!!!!

Ha! Except Bloom was actually trying to sign him.

Yes. Better than this year.

That's not going to get anyone signed. He might as well shut off his phone and roll the season with what he currently has. That's like me needing to buy a car. I'll have to pay for the market is or less I'll be on foot

2023 will be really strong. It's going to feature a hitter who slugged a 100-mph fastball out of Yankee Stadium when he was just 20 years old. And now he's about to enter his prime...

No, you'd just get a car you didn't want originally. Maybe you end up liking that one just as much or more, but probably not.

I can't believe he reached his first ARB year when he was 17. It was crazy.

There is but for 6 mil I'd take that gamble.

Maybe in a normal year? Maybe once the younger guys are ready to fill in? This year, the Sox just have too many holes to fill to waste $$$ on guys that are more likely than not to miss substantial time.

There's a lot of holes to fill wich will they will not be able to fill with the way these price tags are looking. So sometimes you need to take a gamble to fill one of these holes for cheap. I consider this cheap as 6 mil now a days in MLB free agent doesn't get you much.

It seems like there are a lot of quality free agents this year , as well as some really big names. I don't see where it is such a bad year .

Agreed.
