So did the MLBTR article on Houston needing LHH outfielders inspire some discussion on Verdugo-for-Urquidy trades?

IMO, I make that deal immediately with no regrets. And I like Verdugo…

moon said BTV accepted Verdugo for Urquidy AND Neris.

Seems implausible, but what do any of us know.

Urquidy seems to look like a stud every time I see him pitch. But his overall numbers are only OK. He has an excellent WHIP of 1.09 but a shaky FIP of 4.35, which appears to be directly related to a penchant for giving up homers.

His career ERA is 3.74, for the old schoolers.

It got me thinking maybe even Dugo for Urquidy & Neris.

I doubt Houston does that, despite it working on BTV. But even a straight up 1 for 1 deal is fine. Especially since Urquidy has 3 years of control left…

Just because BTV accepts didn’ doesn’t mean Houston does.

I can see them dealing from depth, but not depleting it too much…

We'd be lucky to get Urquidy or Neris... not both.

Dugo is no slouch.

Renfroe moves on to the Angels.

This will make 5 teams in 5 years for him…

Does that make for 5 dumb GMs for acquiring him or letting him go?

They keep thinking he won't replicate what he did the previous season. Brewers are going no where's so they are trying to catch lightning in a bottle in hoping those prosepct turn out

Brewers missed the postseason by one game but have legitimate budget concerns. They’d prefer to pay any or all of Brandon Woodruff, Corban Burnes, and Devin Williams over Renfroe. If you are their GM, you would too. Plus they have a slew of OF prospects.

If this trade was all about selling high on Renfroe, the Brewers wouldn’t be trying to catch lightning in a bottle; they’d be able to trade him for good prospects…

Brewers were corking the bottle before $11 million leaked out to Hunter. But he's a decent pick-up for a team like the Angels: intent on fielding big leaguers at every position, and busy filling areas of weakness with targeted players while they're available.

Angel fans around holiday tables will have legitimate discourse on 2023 upgrades... instead of Red Sox fans, who will be all-in on their just desserts and make every effort to nap by the fireplace so they can stay awake for the first half of the Patriots game.

I wouldn't do Neris for Verdugo. That's a pass from me. Urquidy for Verdugo? Sure.

The Brewers are a mess. They should just trade Yelich and move on.

Trade Yelich to who? The guy has back issues that sapped his power and the market for declining singles hitters owed $150mill over the next 6 years isn’t remarkably robust…

Makes you wonder if something is wrong with him.

The only thing “wrong” with Renfroe is his projected salary in arbitration doesn’t fit the budget of a small market team that has multiple MLB-ready prospects that play his position…

If both Boston and Houston agreed with the BTV model that this deal needs more to be equal, the Astros will fill that gap with minor leaguers and not from their bullpen.

And Bloom would very likely agree, assuming he liked the prospects…

IDK. Someone out there probably has an itchy trigger finger.

Was that the issue prior to 2021?

Posted
You know what I meant, nerd.

That his salary was less on 2021 and 2022 plus acquiring him allowed Milwaukee to dump Bradley?

Renfroe made sense in 2022 for the Brewers at his salary. He’s no longer as cheap. Other more important players (namely Corban Burnes and Brandon Woodruff) will command raises in arbitration, and Garrett Mitchell has been deemed MLB-ready with Sal Frelick not far behind.

Make sense now?

I'm going to re-write the post because you were clearly hit with a cartoonish sized hammer this morning and you currently have birds circling around your brain.

Wow, that seems awfully similar to the same reason that the Sox had to dump Renfroe in December 2021: Boston is a SMALL MARKET TEAM with MULTIPLE MLB-READY PROSPECTS that play his position.

Evidence for Boston being a small market team: fans can't stop worrying about their owner's checkbook, team forced to cut salary in recent years, reset reset reset.

Evidence for Boston having multiple prospects/replacements to take over for Hunter: Cordero 275 PA in 2022, Duran 223 PA in 2022, Refsnyder 177 PA in 2022.

Evidence for this post being sarcastic: my previous 54,000+ posts.
