Lucchino may have been an SOB but is hardly a loser

He is largely responsible for Camden Yards and the beautiful ballpark in San Diego. He also was highly instrumental in the revitalization of Fenway Park.

What matters most to me is that Lucchino is part of the team that turned the Red Sox into title winners. I'd buy him a drink.

If one looks at the totality of Larry Lucchino's life, it is a remarkable list of accomplishments. As a former resident of Worcester, I greatly appreciate what he has done for the revitalization of that city as well. I characterize the animus towards him as petty jealousy.

Me too.

And I wouldn’t poison it…

Agreed.

Lots of successful business men might be pricks- same as non successful people.

The one story about Lucchino that kind of made me wish I was there was when he, Henry and Theo flew to meet with Teixeira and Boras, thinking they were about to close a deal. When they got there they found out the Yankees had already pretty much sewed Teixeira up. I think there were reports of Lucchino coming close to getting physical with Boras...

BTW Larry Lucchino was recently inducted into the Padres Hall of Fame. He was President and Ceo of the Orioles, Padres and Red Sox. How anyone can say a member of both the Padres and Red Sox Halls of Fame and the former President of three Major League teams is not a baseball guy is absolute nonsense and defies credulity.

So much of the coverage made it Epstein vs Lucchino (and let's be real - Epstein was a lot to do with that). But Lucchino identified Epstein as a future star, and that was not some wild outlier in his career.

Fittingly that they played this game tonight in front a bunch of Little Leaguers, whom the Red Sox have resembled a good part of the year. Remember all the popups, and fly balls they couldn’t catch this year. Except for the fantasy month of June this team has been a s*** show, and a clown show all year long, and there is plenty of blame to go around. From JH to Bloom to Cora to their star players who at the moment I wouldn’t sign any of them, and that includes Raffy. Heads should roll, and there are plenty of heads to choose from.

So if Raffys agent came to JH and said we will sign for 280/10 you say no?

On the airwaves already this morning regarding the Red Sox HOBO. Get rid of this bum, and get a Real GM in here, who knows what he’s doing, and fix this mess. Give me a He’ll Yea! I don’t think the Red Sox have hit rock bottom yet. Edited by Old Red

That won't happen. Raffy thinks he's worth well over 300M. But if the agent actually did they would sign him in a heartbeat at that price.

Devers is 12 for his last 84 for a .539 OPS.

Martinez is 16 for his last 99 for a .480 OPS

Bogaerts is 14 for his last 67 for a .583 OPS.

IMHO, their morale was shattered at the trade deadline and has not recovered since.

Martinez and Bogaerts are both playing for their next contracts. That usually provides motivation.

Do they look like they are motivated to you?

They look like they are in slumps.

The slumps of Bogey and Martinez started well before the trade deadline.

Yes, they were so full of energy and optimism going into the deadline.

Trading Diekman for McGuire broke their morale backs.

He always tends to wear down in the dog days.

But when Cora gives him a day off fans want to roast the manager...

This offseason is going to be incredibly interesting.

Henry and the rest of the FO are definitely feeling a lot of heat, especially with the rise of the Orioles.

They know some serious upgrades are necessary.

Not the point. Point is, would someone really not resign Raffy right now because of a slump? Do we actually think he's regressed or just in a slump? seemed like a ridiculous statement to me that was all.

Hopefully no one’s is trying to blame the trade deadline for this slump.

Henry’s rabbit ears are really burning right now, and if he has any common sense at all he’s questioning if hiring Bloom was the right move, or not, and if he is competent enough to make this team better instead of making them worse.

Of course they are...

That’s ridiculous.

If Devers or Bogaerts decided to no longer try because they didn’t like the trade deadline activity, why would anyone want either of them extended.

The roster activity and direction of their team is neither of their concern. The job of both - and everyone else on the roster is simply to play ball to their best of their ability…

Sham on you.

Disagree 100% that the roster activity is neither of Bogey’s, and Raffy’s concern. The mood in the clubhouse is very important, and especially if the team thinks the FO didn’t due enough to improve the team, or has given up on them. I do Agee however that the job of everyone is simply to play ball to the best of their ability.

Nonsense.

For two players with the location of their future homes up in the air, the direction of the team is certainly a concern of theirs.....

They were terrible before the trade deadline as well.....
