That’s because the players, and owners know they have the fans in their greasy palms of their hands that go into their wallets.

So that's why Buckner let it go through his legs... his palms were greasy.

Those old creaky legs couldn’t get down low enough. Grease might have helped.

He should not even have been in the game, at that point.

Stapleton had been used as a late inning defensive replacement, often, that year.

Stapleton was a waste of a roster spot.

His one value was on defense, and our manager wanted Buck on the field to celebrate victory.

His defense wasn't even THAT good. Waste of a roster spot. 100%.

I don't disagree, but his D was better than Buck's and would have helped in that game.

I would have liked my chances with Stapleton over Buck in that instance.

And Johnny Mac had the perfect opportunity to pinch-hit Baylor for Buckner against Orosco.

That bench of Romero, Stapleton, Sullivan, Hoffman and Armas was pathetic.

Armas was considered a starter and Lyons on the Bench.

Lyons was traded for Seaver midseason. Armas sucked in 1986 and didn't start one game in the WS due to injury.

Armas sure declined quickly after that great '84 season, but he still started 116 OF games in '86.

1984 43 HRs and 123 RBI (.831 OPS)

1985 23/64 (.812)

1986 11/58 (.714)

That .454 OPS in his last 24 games of the season was enough to bench him. (Dave Henderson took over.)

How did people forget Dave Henderson? It was his home run in the top of the inning that made Buckner’s error so meaningful…

And the goat to hero game against the Angels.

Concerts are off the charts, but what gets me more is the cost of hotel rooms near the concert. I saw some old guy named Elton, and the hotel rooms went up close to $300 the night of the concert.

No different than happens at any large event. Take a look at what the hotel prices are for a college football game at a name school or a NASCAR race. They’ll push $300 a night with a mandatory 2 night stay. Just ran into that in northern Florida this past weekend with the Daytona 500.

He wasn't truly benched until the injury in Game 5 of the ALCS.

Henderson was in the starting lineup. What does that have to do with the bench?

Remember this well. The stupid no-DH in NL parks rule left the Red Sox' HR leader on the pine. That was the perfect op to bat Baylor... vs. a good lefty pitcher... removing a bad lefty hitter (Buckner was easily the Sox' worst hitter in the postseason, and arguably in the whole MLB... and yet, let's keep batting him third)

I said this in '86: Buckner's E was human, but the image of his pitiful legs for weeks on TV -- impeding his swing, and turning him into a wobbly belly-flopping cripple on the bases, contributed to the ultimate loser label that instantly made him a haunted icon forever when he couldn't even bend over to pick up a grounder.

I must say dissecting those painful losses of the past is much more bearable when you're looking back on them through the filter of 4 championships.

It's true, but bitterness still lingers to the fans we were at the time...

I felt bad for Billy Buck, but worse for the diehard fans who knew better. Like those of us who noticed Pedro tap his chest and point to the heavens in '03.

The biggest rage I had as a teen fan was after Cincinnati's 9th-inning comeback in Game Two of the '75 Series. Down to their last out, the Reds tied it on an infield grounder, then won it on a double off the fence. Can't take your foot off the throat of a team like that... Sox were one out away from going up two games to none. I knew.

I felt bad for Buck, too. It was hard not to.

My anger was directed towards management, as if often was, until Henry took over the reigns- well, actually, I like the Duquette appointment.

The Duquette appointment was the first step toward a new era of great success for the Red Sox.

With Putin showing himself to be a complete psychopath, MLBB seems of little importance. My prayers to the unfortunate masses who will be killed and deprived of their liberty.

The only Putin I know is puttin' Arroyo on the IL.
