RIP Jerry. I will miss him. He made my watching experience much more enjoyable. I knew that he would not be coming back this time by the way the people in the Red Sox organization reacted to it, and when I saw him with the oxygen throwing out the first pitch, I knew that he didn’t have much time left. Still, it happened more quickly than I expected. RIP. I will always remember how graciously he treated every fan who approached him in the booth at Spring Training.

Jerry was one of a kind, and him, and Orsillo in the booth together were a classic. Glad he got that one final appearance at Fenway against the Yankees to throw out the first ball. RIP REM Dawg.

Remdog bought me a beer once in the Monster seats. I didn't even have a seat (but bribed an usher to get up there).

He lived with cancer for 13 years... and showed at least this viewer how to carry on with dignity.

Yep. That reminded me that I have a daily lineup paper from ST with his autograph on it. In spite of all the stories Orcillo and O'B shared about his being a curmudgeon he always had a friendly smile and a few words for anyone who approached him.

I somehow had the feeling that he'd beat his C again and go on forever. I guess I knew it was just wishful thinking.

Sad. He had a job, took it very seriously, and did it very well. He also gave up and put up with a lot in life in order to do that, and to make our lives a bit better as a result. RIP

This just in from RemDawg Heaven…

… Jerry reports they show a continuous replay of the ’78 Playoff Game: Piniella is still blinded by the sun on Remy’s liner off Gossage, but instead of a lucky bounce into the glove, the ball skips all the way to the fence. It’s a game-tying triple, and the RemDawg does a pop-up slide, fist-pumping with the frenzied crowd. The Yanks intentionally walk Rice and Yaz to load the bases, but Fisk pops out. Then an exhausted Goose leaves one low that Lynn lofts into the Boston bullpen for a walk-off grand slam.

Of course, the ’78 Sox go on to win it all, with Remy’s DP partner, Burleson, MVP of the playoffs, and fellow New Englander Fisk as MVP of the World Series. Beantown rewards all these curse-breaking heroes with long-term contracts, and the Red Sox win a couple more titles in the next half decade. But every time they play the Yankees for the next 40 years, the networks always show clips of Clueless Lou waving his arms and Jerry Freaking Remy’s slide (a certain NY shortstop becomes nothing but a historical footnote, like poor Dave Henderson from 1986).

To be fair, Jerry also notes that in the 2021 ALDS, Kiermaier’s double doesn’t bounce off Renfroe, and the Rays win Game 3. But the Red Sox still win that series in five…

Please excuse me for taking up your time with this but I've got to bitch to someone....

I have no - or rather, very few - words...

The Freakin' Globe has chosen today to reprint a 7 1/2 year-old article to chronicle the crimes of Jared Remy.

Yeah, Stay classy, Globe.

R.I.P. RemDawg. I always enjoyed Jerry's insights on Red Sox broadcasts. He and Eck together were a joy to listen to. Jerry will be missed greatly by all Red Sox fans.

I haven’t read that rag in years. Be comforted in the fact that almost no one reads it.

I'm really going to miss listening to him on NESN. The last two years with COVID, listening to him tell it as saw it on air with that NE accent, really gave the broadcast a local feel (nothing against O'Brien or Eck). I always rooted for him from when he was at the Angels. That kind of history and perspective will be sorely missed. He had a tough life. RIP.

You know who the owner of the Globe is, right?

Yeah..I guess that would be an inconvenient truth right? Mourn his passing & feel for his family, but I dont feel he was the great human being he's being made out to be.... Sorry.

The only bad thing he's accused of is paying his son's legal bills. At any point, a judge could have stepped in and thrown Jared away for a long time.

Oh yeah. It left me wondering how much input JH has in the daily operation of the paper and whether he knew that the article about Jared was going to be revived. And if not, what JH's reaction was when he learned of it.

We'll probably never know, although I looked for the article this morning and couldn't find it.

One never knows how much they'd do for their kids until it's time to do something.

Remy and Orsillo were the best baseball broadcaster duo on the air. IMO Nesn made a big goof by releasing Orsillo them two made listening to baseball interesting and funny even when the Red Sox were losing. How can anybody forget the Remdog's classic doing his famous air guitar riff on the table.

RIP Remdog
