A report from Yahoo Japan states the Red Sox are the favorites to land Seiya Suzuki, and "multiple officials" expect the Japanese outfielder to sign his contract with Boston shortly after the league resumes.

This would be awesome!

I've been saying this ever since the trade in which JBJ was a throw in. Suzuki was made for Fenway.

Bloom must really like these prospects or thinks Renfroe was a negative value.

Something was up when Sox traded Renfroe.

If Suzuki signs within a few days of the CBA being agreed upon, it'll show that it was in the works prior to the JBJ trade.

I think he likes the prospects, but there's a reality here. JBJ is probably much better than he was last year, and Renfroe likely had a career year offensively he's doomed to never repeat. With reasonable regression Renfroe is likely only marginally better than JBJ, throw in the prospects, JBJ becomes the defensive 4th, and you sign a stud that doesn't cost you a draft pick to replace Renfroe and you have a winning strategy.

Many of us were speculating that this was the Sox plan all along, that the JBJ trade makes more sense if they sign Suzuki, to be fair......this is still just speculation. For all we know JBJ is your starting CF/RF next year.

a) Really likes the prospects.

B) Renfroe's price was going up, 2021 might have been career year on offense, defense is not good.

c) Hoping for bounceback from JBJ.

So 3 reasons, really. Will they prove correct-who knows? They pay Bloom to be smart, not to be Nostradamus.

I hope it's true, and not just because he could be a good player. The contract alone will be fascinating; will it be more than two years plus an option? If so, will it re-open the floodgates (or bank vault) in Boston? Does it signal that ownership is happy with the new CBA? Can Bloom stop at just one potato chip?

And Bloom knows what he's doing.

Oh yeah? Then why did he make that dumb Yorke pick in the 1st round? Nobody else had him that high!

Wait... I'm getting word that that pick was actually good? Hmmm...

Seiya is 27. They'd sign him for 4-5 years.

The financial cost of JBJ vs Renfroe- not that we had to keep Renfroe, even if we did not acquire JBJ, make the fact that he may be a 4th OF'er a bit strange, UNLESS Bloom really likes the prospects and/or thought Renfroe was way over-valued.

Or his budget is a little higher than we thought?

MLBTR predicted 5 years $55million. And with the exception of Marcus Stroman, they’ve been surprisingly accurate…

Nikkan’s report suggests that the Padres, Cubs, Mariners and Giants are “expected” to be among the finalists for Suzuki once negotiations resume. That’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s worth noting that all four host their Spring Training in Arizona, particularly given this report’s implication that teams with Spring Training camps in Florida may be at a disadvantage when it comes to negotiating with Suzuki. If that’s indeed the case, it’d be bad news for each of the Red Sox, Blue Jays and Yankees — all three have been linked to Suzuki since his posting — and a welcome preference for the four “expected” finalists and the Rangers — who’ve also been tied to Suzuki thus far.

This is all implied; Suz supposedly prefers stepping on large snails at night instead of tripping over invasive Burmese pythons...

Pythons aren't a huge problem unless you live in the Everglades. It's more likely he'll have to dodge falling iguanas.

Not really relevant, but the “Dodge Falling Iguana” was actually a finalist in their pickup truck naming meetings…

Who would've have predicted that I never could spell Nostradamus.

Good read on Casas.....

It's amazing to me he's ready for major league just looking at his stats, especially looking at the number of games of he has played professionally...

He graduated from high school in 2018, his high school stats weren't all that unworldly (not gaudy). Scouts must have been impressed by his physical attributes....and his travel seasons.

He played 2 games that summer, which appears to be the norm for Sox draftees.

He had extensive season in 2019, appearing in 120 games.

2020 season was cancelled.

He then appeared in 77 games for Portland and 9 for Worcester in between participating in the Olympics in 2021. He finished the year playing in Arizona Fall League.

I don't know about anyone else but just based on games played, he's on a fast track.

It's always fun watching young kids develop.

Have you seen the Sopranos episode where Paulie and some other dumb-ass gangster (Chrissy?) argue over Nostradamus, Notre Dame, and Quasimodo?

@redsoxstats

The Red Sox hired an analytics company to optimize game start times [mostly starting in 2023, it sounds like]. Boston dot com ran a poll asking when the Red Sox should start on weeknights:

Results

45% 6:00 p.m.

28% 6:30 p.m.

22% 7:00 p.m.

5% 7:30 p.m.

The Sox hired an analytics company to " optimize" game start times. Uffa!!! The end is near.

The end has been here for quite sometime.
