They could still move Potts to the 60 day IL, I believe. That would make more sense than losing service time of a high upside guy like Mata.

That might be the first choice.

Of course it was "well said" because it agreed with your position. Interesting how that works.

Anyway, we were right to complain about the issues with the lineup. You guys were wrong to bury your heads in the sand.

Sorry, no points for complaining about the obvious.

I'm so far ahead in points at this point it doesn't matter anyway.

Cora announced that Workman was called up. Brewer being optioned. This still creates and issue with the 40 man. They have not stated what they will do yet.

Workman in. Brewer out and off the roster. Good move. The Cubs have an excellent bullpen, but I do think they were a little hasty in dumping Workman. He can be a good addition for the Sox.

Some folks seem to forget that there are two big league teams competing in a game. They focus only on the Sox ' player. The Sox' hitter or pitcher is either great or he really sucks . No credit or blame is assigned to the opposing hitter or pitcher.

He had a 6.75 ERA and a 2.38 WHIP, but it just wasn't about the stats his velocity has gone down into the 80's. We'd be cutting Workman to make room for Workman if we had that on our team.

Hopefully he can regain some of his stuff here.

I doubt anyone will pick up Colten Brewer....he came up for one game as our 14th guy. He'll be back and sent to AAA.

Ok, buster, you are officially nailed for plagiarism. I said that first, but so long ago I'm not even sure it was in this century.

I think the tale of this series was that better pitching won all four games and that the Sox lost 3 of the 4 because those 3 Astros starters were so good.

doesn't

Three Red Sox Starters in a row have been very good. Astros starters were also good but also caught Sox hitters in a bit of a slump. Bogaerts was quoted as saying Astros pitchers were on the corners or outside the zone and he for one had to get back to making them come over the plate. The same was probably true for others in the lineup. They need to stay mindful of what got them here and get back to good sound plate discipline. With the good pitching news comes the bad news for a few of our hitters who appear to be lost and maybe nearing getting sent down. Dalbec struck out 4 times today. To bad for him but the argument of letting him work it out doesn't make sense for a team in contention. I not as much of a stats guy instead preferring to watch batting sequences closely. He is taking average fastballs down the middle way too often, some for 3rd strikes. Kiki is in a serious slum as is Marwin. Those two have longer tract records and will no doubt be given extra leeway.

Is it time to send dalbec back to triple a?

Santana and Marwin are not contributing much either!

Dalbec hits lefties well, and to me, he needs more time.

If we had someone to call up, maybe.

We don’t.

Why isn’t Duran callable?

Why isn’t Duran callable?

He’s playing on the Olympic qualifying team and may not be deemed “ready” by management, anyway

Hey, we have this dude in AAA, right now, who has 1.109 OPS after 20ABs. He even has some ML experience and is said to have “all the tools.”

Pe3titioning against Duran again?

It's going to be a great weekend!

Best thing about 2021 Sox is that there's plenty more room for improvements. They've not hit their stride in all facets of their game. Right now, strongest improvement is coming from our relievers.

Ottavino is inching closer to his top form, Darwinzon and Taylor are hitting their strides, Workman will be better than any #14 pitcher we have in our system and Brasier will return in couple of weeks.

Barnes will get his biggest test this weekend against a team he's struggles against. But this is new Barnes.

Taylor is used in high leverage situations, Darwinzon comes into clean inning, walking one and striking out two seems to be his mo. We could use better outings from Sawamura.

Arroyo has chance to take control of second base.

Who would have thought Richards will gives us better chance to beat the Yankees than Eovaldi and E Rod? It appears Bloom picked the right guy from free agency pool, high reward, low risk guy with second year club option.

I know it sounds like I don't think Duran is ready, but actually I'd love for him to be on the team right now, because it would mean Bloom & Co. thinks he's ready for the bigs.

I trust they know more than we do.

Duran will get the call, probably before September. I think it is already past the extra year of team control cut-off, so that can not be used against him.

I hope he does well when he does get the call.

We need something to boost this offense.

That right there is the cause of the 3 game losing streak. It's very rare when most of your lineup is slumping at the same time. Hopefully enough guys came out of it yesterday to allow us to overcome those who are still struggling

Or does it all depend on the quality of the pitching you're facing, which is random?

One of the eternal philosophical questions of baseball.

Perhaps a little bit of both. All 3 of the Astros starters that beat us performed above their 2021 splits. Were they on that night, or were we off?

Just for the sake of discussion, what makes you say Richards gives us a better chance to beat the Yankees than Eovaldi?

No idea. I do think that sometimes good pitching can put hitters in a slump for games after that, because the hitters get messed up in the head, much the way a few bad shots in golf can mess you up for a while.

Eovaldi has a better OPS against than any starter on our team.

He's been bitten by untimely hitting and low run support, but is doing better than he has in a long time, except for maybe the tail end of 2018.

Richards is doing well, but he has been walking too many hitters and falling behind on the counts. He seems to bear down and avoid untimely hits, but is that sustainable?

Well, counting the 2018 ALDS, Eovaldi has won more games in Yankee Stadium than any other ballpark in the bigs (I know he was a Yankee for two years, but he's now been a Red Sox for parts of four).
