  1. One of my coworkers here in Pittsburgh said he would accept a trade featuring these 3 players for Skenes. Now, he isn’t Bob Nutting or Ben Cherington, but if we want to make a big splash, we certainly could with these 3 guys. Could be for anybody too, not just Skenes
  2. Calling the season “wasted” when we’re still 59-51 and 1.5 games away from hosting a wild card series is a little extreme, in my opinion. I think we all need to let the final 52 games play themselves out first.
  3. I think Campbell, Casas and Duran can get us just about anybody we want in the offseason.
  4. Yankees were willing to give up Spencer Jones for Bednar, so I’m assuming he was on the table for Keller as well. Not that it matters
  5. I don’t disagree with that. But the last few seasons have shown us that the playoff is an absolute crapshoot and that momentum has a better chance of taking you all the way than a superfluous amount of talent and bullpen arms. Not saying we’re better off than those other teams after today, but it’s not like the world is ending either.
  6. I have zero problems with the moves made - or lack thereof. What did you expect us to do? Sell the entire farm? Our window of opportunity is just opening. We have a lot of exciting young talent, both at the major league and minor league level that are going to make this team competitive for many years to come. You can't get the big names on the trade market without giving away some of those names. Dustin May is better than both Buehler and Fitts, so he's automatically an upgrade to the rotation. Matz has experience starting so he can fill in that #5 spot when needed, or we can move him there permanently and transition Fitts to the long reliever role. To those that are upset, I ask: Would you rather have gotten nothing? Because, as we all know, that was also a very realistic possibility given this ownership group.
  7. Opened up my web browser on a beautiful Monday evening, waiting for tonight's game to start after a HUGE (and fun) series win over the weekend. Thought there was no way anybody on Talksox could be in a bad mood given the situation: 57-50 record and possessing the 2nd wild card after the season looked lost a month ago. Then I get to the Talksox homepage and see this thread trending and I am reminded why this place is becoming harder and harder to be an active member at. God, you doomsdayers are idiots. And you can't even spell our players' names right. Get lost.
  8. Great win today! Every team goes through offensive funks, so we can't hang our heads too low about the first two games of this series. Will be interesting to see how this translates to Philly, with Wheeler and Sanchez on the mound the next two nights. Got to take things one series at a time at this point. Thankfully we have a little bit of a buffer now between the last WC spot and the first team out.
  9. Giolito's comeback just over the course of this season has been remarkable as well. That Rangers game in the rain sticks out as "rock bottom"
  10. Wilyer is playing like he wants me to drive down to DC this weekend!
  11. The other thing that frustrates me about this team is that we are wasting a Cy Young caliber season from Crochet. He is the league leader in strikeouts, and although Skubal, Crochet, and Fried all have a valid case for AL Cy Young, Crochet is deserving nonetheless. And there's no guarantee he'll ever have this good of a season ever again. In fact, statistically speaking, he probably won't.
  12. My living room set up features two TVs: A large one and a small one. Obviously, the large one is my primary TV, and I only use the small one when there are multiple games on I want to watch. For most of the season, the Red Sox have been on my primary TV. Even during May when we were inventing new ways to lose, I was still enjoying watching this team, and looking forward to watching the games ever night (for the most part - there were a few exceptions). Today, however, I had the Pirates on my large TV and the Sox muted on my small TV. And you know what? I had more fun watching the Pirates beat the Mets to a pulp for the third straight day. The Pirates - yes, those Pirates - are more fun to watch than the Red Sox right now, and that is a sentiment I have felt multiple times this season. At least you know the Pirates will give you a quality start most nights and keep you in the ballgame. That's more than you can say about the Sox.
  13. When I was out there last weekend, I told every Giants fan who asked me about the trade the same thing: A year from now, most of them will hate him. Disappears when it matters most
  14. His jersey is the first Red Sox jersey I’ve ever owned. Crazy right? I bought a Pirates Bryan Reynolds City Connect jersey shortly after moving to Pittsburgh but in my entire life I had never owned a Red Sox jersey until this past winter
