If this season does somehow get played out, I wonder if they even bother scheduling make-up games since it seems like game postponements could happen often. In the end they should probably just seed everyone by winning percentage.

I'm sure we've all seen it: high-fives, even high-five lines after a victory (well, the RS don't need to worry about that much), spitting (wasn't supposed to be allowed), very few masks, guys hanging out together in the dugout ... No surprise that half the team got infected. Unless serious mandates on player behavior are put into place and enforced, there is no way this season gets completed. Bellhorn4, where are you? How about double-or-nothing on whether the league lasts the next week?

Right here. My suggestion is to call it a draw or forget the bet ever happened. :)

Good by me. I'm afraid we're going to see a lot of players opting out. Why risk what just happened to the Marlins? (and what may have happened to ERod?)

So if the Braves gave it to the Marlins, and the Mets just played the Braves... why are the Red Sox letting the Mets into Fenway?

They should have stopped doing that in 1985....

Because the quicker the whole season gets cancelled the better?

The Marlins learned Sunday morning that their starting pitcher for the afternoon and two other players had tested positive for COVID-19 and would be unable to play. An apparent coronavirus outbreak was underway in the visiting clubhouse at Citizens Bank Park and the Marlins responded by asking their shortstop to determine if the game against the Phillies would be played.

The operations manual says that after a player tests positive for COVID-19, the club must conduct contact tracing to identify the individuals who had close contact with the infected individual. The Marlins flew together to Philadelphia from Atlanta, traveled by bus to a Center City hotel, traveled by bus to the ballpark, dressed in the clubhouse, and sat in the dugout.

It could be easily argued that every Marlins player and staff member came in close contact over the weekend with the infected players. If so, the operations manual says those individuals should be quarantined or isolated pending the results of an Expedited Diagnostic Test, which the Marlins received Sunday morning. Instead of quarantining and thus postponing Sunday’s game, the Marlins played a 3-hour, 44-minute game against the Phillies and then learned Monday morning that eight additional players had tested positive.

Oopsie!

Have any MLB players or their family members died from Covid-19?

* I haven't heard of any?

* The SCIENCE seems to suggest that healthy adult athletes are handling this just fine? IDK?

* Just as healthy children and healthy teachers?

Have any MLB or NBA players become really sick?

... for the health of the entire planet.

As for the health of the Red Sox pitching staff: no September = no reset = no new, good pitchers = no better pitching in '21... but, there may not be a '21, anyway, and/even if, after which there will definitely be a new CBA -- and maybe, a reset reset.

I know -- why do those scientists have to keep relying on science, and facts, like ERod's resultant heart condition. Something like that might happen to the Red Sox best pitcher -- a healthy, 27-year-old professional athlete -- but all the bus drivers, custodians, cafe workers and middle-age teachers I know should be safe.

Manfred is supposedly meeting with all the club owners right now (meeting was scheduled to start at 12:30 Eastern per CBSSports). So there may be some resolution as early as this afternoon.

It was a serious question.

Now.... admittedly, I've been crazy busy + work this summer, but I hadn't heard of ANY players dying, and almost none getting even REALLY REALLY I'll.

I get, as well as most, the unique risk of passing bodily fluids with athletes.

It just seems to me to be the CLASSIC risk assessment analysis.

Stop. Baseball only...

Directly baseball related, and I didn't bring it up.

Somebody else started talking Covid, with the MLB outbreak. So, it makes perfect sense.

I just don't think baseball needs to be shut down. Others do. I respect their opinion, I simply disagree based on the science of most not getting very I'll.

That's all. No offense intended.

Right.

Anyway.. . I hope it doesn't get shut down.

Now.... if the Sox continue to drop 2 out of 3 to ... The O's & other s*** clubs?

SHUT IT DOWN.

We'll decide after the 1st 5 series.

Lmao well said.

I knew this wasn’t going to be a pretty season, but man. Losing to the Orioles like that.

The decision after 5 series should be what prospects to bring up and which established players to trade.

One of my best friends, who is a good athlete, in great shape, spent 5 days in the ICU, three weeks in the hospital. And now, after three months, says he is almost back as far as health is concerned, but has lost so much muscle mass, he is just beginning to exercise. Does that count as "really really" sick? Or is this "just the flu"?

This thread has gone to s***

This baseball season has, as this year has, and the name of this thread refers to a question we all have to ask again today... all because of the same issue that keeps dominating the world.

If someone wants to talk baseball history -- games, players, seasons past -- I'm in.

NOW.....

the Title of this thread is....

"Will the MLB suspend the 2020 season?"

OBVIOUSLY.... because of Covid-19

Just want to establish those facts.

OK... .

No. That does not qualify, unless he plays in the mlb.

If he did, as with 78 talking about E-Rod

https://www.nbcsports.com/boston/red-sox/red-sox-shut-down-ace-eduardo-rodriguez-over-minor-complications-covid-19

Red Sox shut down ace Eduardo Rodriguez over 'minor complications' from COVID-19

SERIOUS? Sure! "deathly ill?" idts

ANYWAY.. . Since the season has begun, and since we are questioning whether to "suspend the season?"

I'd suggest that my questions are not out of line?

WHO HERE WANTS THE MLB SEASON SHUT DOWN BY ANACDOTAL EVIDENCE?

WHO HERE WANTS THE SEASON SHUT DOWN BECAUSE SOME PLAYERS TEST POSITIVE?

Who else is "deathly ill?"

I can't control whether THEY feel safe playing. THEY have the option to opt out.

Are questions about whether to suspend the season "against the rules" on a thread entitled "will the mlb suspend the 2020 season?"

Just asking for a friend?

;)

Not sure what November has to do with the Red Sox this year.

Exactly how is anyone going to discuss the topic "Will MLB Suspend the Season" without mentioning Covid19 and its effects? (Probably about the only thing S75 and I will agree on.)

Speak for yourself. This is one of the best years I've ever had. And no, that's not being selfish/ignoring the death around me. I'm just taking all the positives out of life, and I've had a lot of them recently

Glad you're making the most out of it. Far be it for me or anyone else to tell you how to deal with what for many of us has been a struggle. Venture out, but safely, keep the faith, share the positives, post arguments on threads you disagree with, even crack a joke. No one has the right or the power to tell you not to.

The season is only 3 days old and already at risk of shut down because of covid 19 as MLB had to cancelled 2 games today because of the virus. It's just a matter of time before we have multiple teams with outbreaks.
