Baseball isn't going to die that soon. There'd have to be a complete economic catastrophe the likes of which modern man hasn't seen for baseball to vanish that quick. It may contract, but it's not going to just disappear.

This is my opinion as well.

LOL But do you really know you were negative? Maybe you were positive and asymptomatic.

Glad your test came back negative. :)

I've had two negative tests in two weeks. You tell me ;)

Nationals cancelled today's workout since they still haven't received their COVID test results.

The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal tweeted that testers who were assigned to the Angels and two other, yet-unknown clubs simply didn’t show over the weekend.

LOL

@Britt_Ghiroli

Nats: Per MLB’s protocol, all players and staff were tested for Covid-19 on Friday, July 3rd. 72 hours later, we have yet to receive the results of those tests. We cannot have our players and staff work at risk. Therefore, we have cancelled our team workout this morning

@JeffPassan

After a positive coronavirus test among Toronto Blue Jays players, a number remained behind in Florida while the rest of the team traveled to Toronto for training camp, sources tell ESPN. The players will remain in Florida for a few days before they are cleared to go to Canada.

#Astros players and staff were just informed they will not work out today as they also await the results of their COVID-19 tests taken on Friday.

Braves manager Brian Snitker made the announcement. The Braves had multiple positive COVID diagnoses already, including first baseman Freddie Freeman. In the end, Markakis presumably didn't think it was worth it, which should be completely understandable. According to David O'Brien of The Athletic, talking to Freeman on the phone had quite an impact on Markakis' decision.

If the biggest marque player, Trout drops out, will MLB pull the plug on the season?

I think it would take Trout plus a few more top of the line guys to both opt out and speak out before MLB pulls the plug. Trout is clearly the generational talent right now. Him opting out would be huge.

Re: testing difficulties...

One baseball source called me late last week and described entire testing process as a gigantic mess. Said players were concerned over large amount of false positives and that some were starting to seek independent tests away from team facilities.

I am completely shocked by this! :cool:

I was thinking the same thing. If LeBron opted out of the NBA restart, they would definitely pull the plug, especially since the Lakers have a good shot at winning a championship

Not so screwed up. It's a math problem: if you have a test that's roughly 95% accurate, and, say, 5% of the population tested is in fact positive, half the 'positives' you get will be false positives. But most of the negative tests will be accurate. Essentially, all positive tests need to be redone to eliminate or reduce this error.

MLB has found a way to create another cluster. Several teams have had to put a hold on their workouts because they have not received their test results. It's looking more and more like the season won't be able to get started. :(

7 on the road against the Yankees, 3 at home. WTF?

Yeah, that's whack, but this is a wacky year and not having fans takes away a lot of the home field advantage, except when Voit, Stanton, or Judge gets jammed and hits a HR right over that RF porch

Yeah, I thought the exact same thing. The Sox have a tough schedule.

And oh, the Yankees are going down!

Red Sox Schedule:

We start at home for 3 with the Orioles. 3-0 start. Let's go!!!

In an effort to increase home viewership, the Sox are starting all night games at 7:30 instead of 7:10. Personally, I like the earlier start times, like 6:00 or 6:30. Once school starts back up, I'll have a hard time being able to finish games that start at 7:30.

I have a hard time getting through most 7:00 games

Without researching, I'm wondering how the Red Sox and MLB think later games will lead to an increase in viewers? Games already run too late for kids to watch in their entirety, so I guess the Sox are just giving up on that segment of fans (you know, the future of fandom)? Political pundits may argue the MLB is just appealing to its base... except old white guys pass out earlier than everyone else.

Haha. I hear you. My normal bed time during the school year is 10:00. Sometimes it's a struggle to make it until then. If I stay up much past 10:00, it plays on my mojo for the next day.

I figured that earlier games would be better as well, but supposedly they did the research. They said that if fans are eventually allowed back into games, they'll likely go back to 7:10 start times.

Same here, but it's 10:30 for me. In the fall, I have to be up at 6:30 everyday for football practice. I guess one perk of potentially not having football this year is that I will get to watch the end of Red Sox games

God, no. This is the worst decision.

MLB should be staggering games 1pm, 4pm, 7pm, 10pm (PST games) for the whole season.

Pushing everything to 730 is so dumb. So most games won't end until after 1030? Dumb. Dumb. Dumb.

MLB considers Joe West a high-risk individual. He plans to return for this season despite that.
