You're not misremembering that article. That article was just way too irrational and stupid. Take a minute and learn a little bit about our school, our priorities, and how things operate before you go around telling the world we should cut our football program

The main point of the article was the multi-million$ annual deficit of UConn's athletic department. That's neither 'smart' nor 'stupid'. It's a simple fact, and it's money coming out of Conn. taxpayers' pockets, not mine. That's the problem. I'm not attacking UConn, whose athletic department seems run like those at sports programs all over the country: coaches as the highest paid public employees in the state, helping send nearly all these programs into the red, despite the unsupported claim that sports brings in big money to the university.

Not sure why you want to argue, I'm actually in favor of football as college athletics go: as one AD at a small school explained to me, it's one of the few sports that actually provides (scholarship at big schools, admissions consideration at small ones) for blue-collar kids. Most of the minor sports (including those UConn and others have cut) offer a way of admitting otherwise unqualified kids whose parents 'just happen' to be extremely wealthy. Good riddance! Colleges and universities need to address this problem, and the Covid situation may force them to drag their heads out of the sand. That UConn is now in the company of Stanford, Brown, etc.on this issue is to its credit.

I'm not arguing with you. I'm mad at the writer of the article, because there was a lot of stuff he didn't know about, making the conclusions he drew from those factual statements and data a little farfetched. I switched between talking to you and talking to him, so that's the part that was probably confusing for you

Fair enough. I really hope UConn gets out of this mess, because what they do and how they handle it is going to have huge repercussions throughout the NCAA.

I have said that if there ever was a time to use robot umps, this would be it.

Outside of the coronavirus, however, no. Just no.

ERod has been put on the IL due to COVID. Apparently, he's the only positive COVID Sox player that is not asymptomatic. He may not be back for a while.

Josh Taylor and Darwinzon Hernandez were also placed on the IL.

According to Roenicke, all three are 'recovering well', whatever that means. ERod is working out and throwing into a net.

If the Red Sox actually play 60 games, it looks like it'll be mainly pitching tryouts and experimentation for 2021...

I'm 100% fine with that approach.

I had just heard that ERod was the only one showing any symptoms and that it wasn't great. Glad he's feeling better.

R2&2 Slider, swung on and missed by See:3KO.

Sorry, bad pop culture reference... but going back half a century, there was a decent Twilight Zone episode of a robot player. But he/it couldn't have been as good as Herman Munster, who was once recruited by Hall of Fame manager Leo Durocher:

MLB, MLBPA Announce Latest COVID-19 Testing Results

By Connor Byrne | July 17, 2020 at 11:26am CDT

Major League Baseball and the MLBPA issued a joint press release Friday to announce the latest results of COVID-19 test results from around the sport through July 16. For the most part, it’s encouraging news that should further pave the way for the regular season to start as scheduled July 23.

The league collected 10,548 samples over the past week, but just six (0.05 percent) returned as new positives. Five of those came from players, the other from a staff member. There was also a five-day period in which no new positives were reported.

To date, the league has collected 17,949 monitoring samples and 23 new positives (18 players, five staff members), which equals 0.1 percent. When combining ongoing monitoring testing and intake screening that began June 27, there have been 93 positive tests (80 players) among 21,701 samples, which translates to 0.4 percent. Twenty-eight of the league’s 30 teams have had at least one positive.

MLB numbers are currently looking very good. I am more optimistic about the season right now than I was a week ago. That said, we'll have to see what happens when the teams start traveling and so forth.

Unrelated but humorous sponsorship. For White Sox games, every game has the announcement “And today’s umpire rotation is brought to you by the Spectrios Center for Low Vision.”

Eduardo Rodriguez says to wear a mask, wash your hands and be careful. COVID-19 hit him hard. It was all he could do to get out of bed.

How does he know what it feels like to be 100 years old. Damn lucky, I would think.

For E-Rod, the word "athlete" is a stretch. He's got early onset Fat f*** Disease
