The man doesn't want to stress himself out OK!!!!!!!!!!!

Spring Training games are meaningless. It's not as though he's seeing opponent's best hitters.

Workman and Hembree both had effective one inning stints today striking out 5 of 6. Watched Feltman throw and he has an odd motion which may show the grip or ball early. Hard to tell. Command was not great, his breaking pitch down and in to lefties, sinking away from RH'ers looked good.

Good performance by Barnes, Brasier, Thornburg today in relief of Sale who was sharp. Hope springs eternal

Thornburg's performances from here on are especially of interest.

We have our #25!

UGH on Mejia.

Cora said today that there were still 3 bullpen spots up for grabs.

Mejia and Hernandez could take 2 of them.

Well, if he already said Mejia is making it, does that mean 3 other slots are open?

I find that hard to believe.

Thornburg walks 3 in relief , using 25 pitches but K's Kiermeyer with the bases full, allows no runs, bounces 3 pitches off Swihart. Must be working on a new pitch. Does not look to have much command at this point, inconsistent motion, poor follow through falling off towards first base side.

D. Hernandez similarly wild with 3 walks but again no runs allowed .

Colton Brewer also whiffed his 3 batters with a very good 12 to 6 curve ball. The bullpen wars continue as the team gets ready to head west on Sunday.

The hitters showed up with some 2 out rbi's by Pedroia, Martinez and Devers

Alex Wilson Opts Out Of Contract With Guardians

By Jeff Todd | March 21, 2019 at 5:34pm CDT

Righty reliever Alex Wilson has opted out of his contract with the Guardians, per a club announcement. He will head back onto the open market in search of a better opportunity elsewhere.

Wilson, 32, had been competing for a spot in the Cleveland bullpen. Had he earned a nod, his minor-league deal would have provided a $1.25MM salary and $750K in potential incentives.

Though he has maintained a 3.23 ERA over 320 2/3 MLB innings over his career, including 61 2/3 frames of 3.36 ERA ball last year, Wilson was non-tendered this fall by the Tigers. He has never had the peripherals to support the results, but Wilson has certainly defied them for quite a long stretch. He turned in 8 2/3 innings of action this spring, allowing just two runs on five hits while compiling seven strikeouts against two walks.

The Milwaukee Brewers reportedly will sign reliever Alex Wilson, who opted out of his Cleveland contract earlier this week:

The Brewers, who were rumored to be in talks with Craig Kimbrel, should again have a formidable bullpen.

Except that Jeffress is already out t start the season and Knebel is having UCL issues, which might mean TJ...

Poyner, Walden, and Hernandez optioned to the minors; Brewer looks likely for the last bullpen spot, with Mejia also still in the running.

soxprospects projects Brewer, Velazquez & Thornburg for the last 3 pen slots and Johnson as our 6th starter.

Hembree in rare form vs the Cubs--hits the first guy, walks the second, walks the third batter , followed by a quick hook from Levange. The first 11 road games will be a small sample but we'll see how well some of these throwers come around when the results count. Don't hold your breath when a few come in unless you enjoy oxygen deprivation.

Workman relives Hembree, gets a swinging K. Maybe a DP saves the inning----Brandon gets the groundball but it eludes a diving (late??) effort by Nunez at SS, rolls through for a 2 run single. Good thing it is still ST.

Followed by another groundball single burying the Sox in their last ST game of 2019. But Swihart homered !
