I screwed up somewhere in my game by game summary and have us at 30-29 not 29-29, but the net totals are as such:

29 Losses:

18.5 are more the starter's fault

10.5 are more the reliever's fault

30 Wins:

11.5 are more due to the starter

18.5 are more due to the reliever

Net:

SP: -7.0

RP: +8.0

Can we stop blaming the pen?

How many starter losses have their been because Cora had to leave the starter in too long due to a tired or flat out ineffective bullpen?

The Weber loss? One, maybe 2?

How many games did the pen lose, because they were called upon early in so many games due to starter ineffectiveness or having to start Weber, Smith & Velazquez so many times?

IP per GS

5.1 in 2019

5.4 in 2018

5.9 in 2017

Certainly, the SP'ing has done better lately, and the pen has done worse, but the starter IP numbers show they are the ones causing any pen fatigue.

When a team slips as much as the Sox have so far this year , you can't blame just one area . It takes a team effort . Whatever you think of saves and blown saves as stats , when your bullpen has 12 saves and 9 blown saves , it is not too good . Whatever you think of ERA as a stat , when only Price among the starters has a good ERA , it is not too good . Add to that the offense , which has been on and off , and the defense which hasn't been stellar either . Throw in some bad base running . Lastly you had D.D. sleeping at the switch and Cora losing that magic touch . It has truly been a concerted effort .

I have to say thanks again for the extreme detail which does bring some sense to the actual results . You put a lot of time into it. The 30-29 minor mistake---clearly the result of a terrible bullpen composed by DD and mismanaged by WTF Cora . (Joking, of course. It's sad that it has to be clarified that way for some.0

The stats were not meant to make our pen look great. They are not. But, our losses, in terms of pitching only, are more on the starters, and our wins show the pen doing better than the starters, as well.

Of course, our hitting has lost and won us a few games, too.

We need pen help. I was hoping we signed Otavino this past winter (among other suggestions), but I think we should act sooner rather than later. We are seeing teams already making moves and throwing in the towel.

But why might the pen be tired? And why might they have become somewhat ineffective?

Because the starters were not doing their job.

The pen needs some help. I won't deny that. But to date, the 'hole' that the Sox are in is due more to both the rotation and the offense than it is to the pen.

Also, thank goodness the pen did not blow last night's game.

I just don't have the energy for that.

Bobby Poyner is in the Red Sox clubhouse so perhaps some roster moves coming today

Josh ! Josh ? Anyone here named Josh ?? No, apparently already left the building.

Like I said, the bullpen sucks.

Everyone defended Barnes.

Hows he looking lately?

Law of averages.

Funny how you only show up after a rough patch. How long were you away from this thread?

If Barnes is the guy in this bullpen you’re picking on, you’re clueless...

We keep picking on the pen, but I think the intermittent offense and starting pitching are equally to blame for our .500 record.

Overall pitching depth is an issue.

The Sox has 5 good starters, but when one gets hurt - which happens every year to every team - they have no one capable of filling in even adequately...

People are still saying the pen is fine . They are saying that because they want it to be true . But it is not true . The pen is not fine . The pen is mediocre at best . Probably below average . Certainly not championship caliber .

The bullpen's mediocrity is kind of getting buried under the avalanche of other problems.

You dont know how to quote. You quoted 2 peoples quotes in the same quote, to make it look like I said it, when I didnt. Internet is a tough thing to grasp I guess.

25K posts and you still cant figure out what bold is, and how to quote people correctly.

And btw, it was 10 days. Whats your point? If your point is that I have a life, 2 kids and work 60 hours a week and dont have time to post 35 times a day like some losers, then yes....I guess thats me. Shame on me for having a life hahahahaha, what a loser you are!
