It's scary to think how good this team would be with fully healthy Pedroia and last year's version of Pom. Nunez and Devers gave us a lift last year. Pearce has been a good pick up so far. With him hitting, there's absolutely no discussion about Hanley.

Still could use a solid set up guy. Screw the secondary penalty. Losing 10 spots and paying additional 42.5% on the OVERAGE? It's worth increasing the chance of winning the world series.

ps. I would package 1st round pick every year for established major leaguer. Exhibit 1 Mookie Betts.

Haven't heard anymore about Pedroia. That is one area to keep our eye on. Holt aand Nunez have to fill in there every game and are also the backup and third and short. Maybe Phillips is coming along but have heard nothing about him. Could be we won't ever see a fully healthy and performing Pedroia again.

I’m never be lucky enough to see a trade go through...

Assuming his knee can be stabilized and function day to day, I'm sure Pedey will be prepped to be on the active roster and available for spot duty when the rosters expand in September. I'm guessing he could play now but not as a regular, maybe PH'er or one game at a a time.

Who the hell cares how Rodney wears his hat? It literally has no impact whatsoever on the game at all and he's had had a very solid, long career doing it. He does it to honor his father who died shortly before he made his MLB debut. Rodney is in his 40's, wildly inconsistent and can be frustrating at times, but if he can be had cheap, and I mean absurdly cheap, why not? The last thing I look at when acquiring players is how they wear a hat. Rodney is decent pitcher and good teammate. I think the Sox need more of a 7th/8th inning guy, which I'm not sure Rondey is best suited to do anymore, but I wouldn't mind a deal for him.

People literally complain about the dumbest s***.

It's not his hat, nice to honor his father. It is more that if you want Eric Gagne redux go with this dumb s*** of an old thrower

I think the complaints about his hat were in jest....but the fact that he sucks is not in jest.

Less Rodney today....even less tomorrow.

I do hate his hat tilt, but it was in jest. I assumed he did it for the same reason Pedro Strop does - to keep from hitting it with his arm while pitching.

Rodney has a long career history of being wild. He lets on too many base runners and only survived because his current role lets him start mostly clean innings. He’s not a good idea for the Sox...

I agree.

Didn't know about his dad and the hat thing.

If he is wicked cheap I say go for it.

Looks like desperate dave is looking to bring in someone that can be an 8th inning guy to get us to Kimbrel.

That could be our biggest issue right now. Let’s hope he is successful.

So what actually is the deal with the hat? What does wearing it the way he wears it have to do with his father's death? Got no skin in the game, just curious. It is a story that I have never heard.

I saw an interview with him a few years ago where he explained it. IIRC his father was a fisherman in the Dominican Republic, and while fishing he would wear his hat with the tilt, in order to keep the sun out of his eyes. Fernando asked his father, and he explained why he did it, unfortunately, his father died from cancer only 6 days before his MLB debut. Rodney honors his father with the slight hat tilt.

Edit: I googled it to fact check, and I was mostly right. You can read story here for more info, and there is also a link to an interview when he was with San Diego, briefly explaining it.

So if his father was a gangsta and wore saggy pants and had five foot untied shoelaces it would be ok? It is called a uniform for a reason. Uniform in the dictionary means "the same". Respect the game, wear the uniform correctly or go play on a pick up softball team.

Rodney struggles to throw strikes and has averaged over 4BB/9 throughout his career.

Relievers who put men on base late in the game are very often a bad thing...

I don't like the crooked cap either, but it's not against the rules.

Some guys like to wear their socks high. It's a uniform but there is a bit of latitude for individual preferences.

Imho, it's about production, not appearance. If JD or Betts wore their caps crooked, would anyone here really complain. Probably not until they stopped producing because of a prolonged slump.

Btw, the only team that I'm aware of in MLB that enforces a uniform code, mainly about facial hair, is the Yankems. I wonder if Rodney would have to wear his cap correctly if he was on the Yankems? Edited by SPLENDIDSPLINTER

I'll bet he would.

Yeah, because those things are clearly comparable. If this really triggers you this much, you have some serious issues.

I think that there is a whole lot more that goes into things than just the results shown on the field. Outside of a few scraggly beards, I don't see too many of these guys trying attract any attention other than by the way they play. People can say what the want to but the way a person looks and carries themselves and behaves can say a great deal about the type of athlete they become. I think that the Red Sox have put this current team together with some of those thoughts in mind. I like that very much. That being said, it does sound as though Rodney might get a pass to wear his hat any way he wants to. My opinion might not be all that popular these days but what the hell I have cut a few very talented ass holes over my years.

Not sure why we need a police to police the fashion police. If a guy can't or thinks wearing his hat cockeyed is cool, I have the right to disagree with him. I think Holts pants look baggy sometimes. I think Kibrels beard looks stupid, Mookie wears strange shoes.

People like you that think others have issues because they believe in order, discipline and structure are the ones with the "issues".

Why go there?

Perhaps his father wears an izod shirt with the collar popped and boat shoes...
