Hypothetically would dealing Dave go all in on Britton and Machado by trading Xander ,Groome maybe Nuney?Just so Machado gets a taste of a real front running club ? Here's the lineup

1.Betts

2.Benny. Pen Barnes ,Britton,Thorny ,Kid we discovered for pennies that has disgustingly good stuff ,Kelly,Craig

3.Machado

4.JD

5.Devers

6.moreland

7.philips Holt

8.leon ,Vaz,Swihart

The O's wouldn't make that deal. It's basically Xander for Britton and Machado.

If the Sox can shorten up the game to 7 innings, this team will be very tough. This is the direction you want to go, with the Play-offs down the road. Relievers, are key in the Play-offs.

Too bad Thornburg got hurt, and is still working his way back. He's here but not back.

Now Dombrowski scares me, we have some talent in the Lower Levels, and if he uses them, we better win it all.

The real good teams can shorten it to 5 innings.

Beeks after tonight has 0 worth it's gone .Beeks maybe the 5 th player in a mega deal but that's all he is now .Beeks should not see another shot this year and may need a new team after what he's shown here in Boston .some players just can't handle Boston and Fenway

Beeks has thrown a total of 6.1 innings in the majors and you're ready to give up on him?

Well, the argument hinged on his very low BABIP when compared to his line drive rate and hard hit rate. Very similar to how many on this board were (correctly) predicting Jackie Bradley would eventually break out of his slump using similar criteria.

Brock Holt hasa similar line drive rate to Dixon Machado and a lower hard hit rate, but has a BABIP a full .102 higher, which means he might be due for a little regression to the mean himself. And Nunez has not been getting it done with either the glove or the bat this year and he is barely outhitting Machado while playing worse defense by the metrics. Health is probably a factor, but will he ever be fully healthy this year?

The Sox do have the mercurial Brandon Phillips as an option. But having two options is usually better than having just one.

Yup.

Diagnosing injuries on people he's never seen? ;)

He's such a good doctor that he doesn't need to see them in person. If only my doctor could do an exam like that.

I prefer both Xander and Devers over Machado, so unless we're getting another significant piece in return, I veto any trade involving either player to get Machado.

Xander Bogaerts, who becomes a free agent after the 2019 season, should hold little appeal for Baltimore unless the Orioles plan to compete in 2019.

But you'd lose all that valuable recovery time sitting in his waiting room while your injuries nearly fully healed on their own...

That is true.

And on our side, 1.5 years of Bogaerts (1.9 bWAR this year) for 0.5 years of Machado (2.4) might not be as much of an upgrade as people seem to think. If we're going to make a dramatic change to our lineup (and I'm not saying we need to or should), I'd rather go after someone like Dozier to play second, not swap out our fourth-best position player for a rental.

In my mind, Machado still makes as little sense for us as he did during the offseason or a month ago.

Sox are giving Xander a long term deal this offseason. He's not going to reach FA.

Speculation? Or real story?

I hope you’re out teasing me here...

I fully expect the Sox to work hard to get something done with Bogaerts. Even at his worst he's been a solid shortstop and he has the potential for so much more.

BTW I mentioned this in another thread but my ideal trade target is DJ LeMahieu. So far it looks like the Rockies are hoping to keep him, but he's a multiple gold glove winner with some offensive ability. I much prefer that to trying to shoehorn a hitter into a middle infield position. Defense first, especially with an offensive guy like Bogaerts on the other side of second base.

And he's still only 25!

Given the luxury tax implications, a Xander Bogaerts extension would limit the Red Sox ability to enter the free agent markets and/or extend Mookie Betts.

The Red Sox will get out from under the salaries of Hanley Ramirez, Craig Kimbrel, Drew Pomeranz, Joe Kelly and Steve Pearce but may need replacements on top of arbitration raises.

I fully expect Xander Bogarts' agent, Scott Boras, to work hard in developing daunting demands on behalf of his client.

Exactly. I can see it now 6 years 175 or 7 for 210 or any permutation of those ridiculous numbers.

I'm here to give the answer to the question posed by the thread title: Scooter Gennett!

Age: 28

Position: 2B

Avg: .322

OPS: .876

HR: 14

RBI: 58

What a difference he would make!

I have no idea what they have in the system that could be traded for him. But Pedroia isn't coming back.

Boras is 65 with a reported net worth of $100million. He might retire before then ::fingers crossed::

Thoughts on Asdrubal Cabrera? He might be a better player than LeMahieu, and is signed for another year. The Mets do have an abundance of middle infielders and plenty of other needs...

The time to get Scooter Gennett was last February, when the Brewers released him. The Reds have no reason to let him go cheaply right now, especially considering he is under contract for another year and getting paid peanuts and cracker jacks...

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24056411/cincinnati-reds-president-dick-williams-expects-nice-increase-team-payroll-2019

The last-place Cincinnati Reds, who have been one of the majors' best teams over the past month, plan to increase their payroll next season, according to president of baseball operations Dick Williams.

"We do believe that we're creating a good core to invest around," Williams told the Cincinnati Enquirer. "For the first time in a couple of years, I firmly believe we'll have a raised payroll."

The Reds have an estimated payroll of $110.9 million this season, the seventh-lowest in the majors.

After losing 43 of their first 65 games, the Reds have gone 18-8 over the past month and will send three players -- Joey Votto, Scooter Gennett and Eugenio Suarez -- to next week's All-Star Game.

Williams told the Enquirer that he did not have a set number on the Reds' anticipated payroll for 2019 but said he expected a "nice increase."

"I'm not talking like 1 or 2 percent," Williams told the paper. "But it's too early to know for sure. A lot of it will depend on how we play the rest of the year, the support we get from the fans and strategic decisions we make about where our investments will go in the offseason -- payroll or otherwise."
