He might need one in the ribs to decrease his comfort in there. A Sevy 100mph shot should do it

Look what you started. You know better than that!

Watch out, Smokin Joe Kelly follows these posts and can give some payback

Kelly needs something just like this to get him back on track. LOL

I do delight in Jacko's constant need to quash his worries about the Red Sox by posting where we are going to fail.

Devers needs sending down.

The 6-9 spot is a disaster and you'll struggle because of it.

Your catchers are not hitting enough.

A modern day Nostradamus.

Not injure him. Back him off the plate. He’s far too comfortable against us

You wanted him to take one "in the ribs", verbatim from your post. At 100mph no less. Are you now implying his ribs are in the strike zone and need to be backed off?

In the ribs at 100mph gets a player injured. Other than a trip to 1B, that's about the only other outcome. If the Yankees were to actually do that (which they don't appear intent on trying), I wouldn't mind seeing Aaron Judge take 100mph off the wrist.

And then who would cry out intent?

I am all for pitching inside to back a player off of the plate if he looks too comfortable.

I am all for a pitcher hitting a player in the backside to show he has his teammates' back, as when Kelly hit Austin.

I am not for hitting a player because he has owned your team. If the pitcher doesn't like it, he needs to make better pitches. That said, if a player does get thrown at for taking the pitcher deep, or whatever, then retaliation is, by all means, necessary.

I don't have the history with the OP you guys do so I'll just say I'm a Sox fan who has no problem discussing just how disappointing his season has been and what it has meant. Having the best record in baseball in May does not mean you have no problems and 3rd base is a big problem right now. Teams will simply pitch around JD to get to Devers.

People forget that Dever is just a kid. I’m not concern because he looks like he is coachable because of the adjustments he has made. The kid will have his struggles, but he is also a threat to go deep every time he steps into the box. Boggs was also shaken with the glove and made himself a better defender. As long as a here the kid is putting the time in I’m okay with the struggles.

I think this is a viable tactic for any team and part of the game. We celebrated it when Pedro was pitching.

Nothing to see here......... move on.

The kid is killing the ball lately

I wish every Sox player would struggle the recent Devers.

One of their top offensive performers in the last 30 days.

Yes. He still has the yips on D. He's young. He was forced up too early. I'm good with that. He WILL become a decent to good Defensive 3rd baseman, if his work ethic is as everyone claims it to be.

If it’s a Kelly vs Sevy fight, I’ll take Kelly all day long

ya but - I'll give you two kellys for one Sevy and I would even raise you a few. I'm a sox fan too but I'm blind.

How about " The Over/Under on the imminent Aaron Boone firing and the future of the yankee managerial position.".

Devers would be the youngest player in Pawtucket and Portland combined.

What’s that tell you pink hats ?

It tells me with 16 hr the player is a potential star in this League.

End of discussion

The idea that a Pink Hat would take the time to post on this board...

That’s funny.

You’re funny man! ;)

We've seen a few similar situations over the last few years of young players struggling at the onset of their MLB careers, or during their first full seasons. The problem is, that sometimes young guys struggle. They are in a spot where they have little left to learn in the minors and the only way they're ever going to learn and adjust to hitting mlb pitching is to go through the trails and tribulations of a full season. Some times they will struggle for a 1/2 a year or a full year and come back strong and sometimes they will sink and never learn to swim (e.g. will middlebrooks).

The issue as it pertains to Devers is what Moon said back in the spring - that as a 21 year old Devers is going to have a learning curve, and very possibly the middle of a pennant race isn't the best time for him to be learning.

Right now I have 0 confidence in Devers. He shows every indication that he's going to become a special player but on the whole he's hurting this 2018 team. Very possibly the only reason he's playing is because there's nobody else to play 3rd base on a regular basis.

However, this team has built a 10 game lead in spite of Devers play so apparently we can afford to have him learn now. I'm just hoping it doesn't bite us in the playoffs because, as the saying goes, "If a team has a weakness the ball will find it."
