    To beat the Yankees in the wild card round they need to match the Yankee starters and get into the bullpen. Plus they need to get a big hit when they get traffic on the base paths. They are going to have to score more than two runs to win a game. The season has shown when they score 4 or more runs they are tough to beat!

    Captain Obvious: Duran strikes out way to much! His leg kick that starts his swing is way to high as it does not allow him to react to off speed stuff. any pitcher that gets strike one on him has control of the at bat.

    The walks kill him because you know he is going to give up hits and that just means that there is a lot of traffic on the basepaths. I do not want see him again until the Sox clinch a playoff spot. He didn't even make it through the lineup once.

    Looks like it will be a long off season for baseball. Don't understand how millionaires can't come up with a solution for players saleries!

    Agree! This is a topic to revisit in the off season. I am more concerned with the starting pitching holding up. Back-to-back losses to a last place Angels team that put up crocket numbers in inning against Sox starters. If Sox don't get solid pitching against Yanks (I'm assuming that is our playoff opponent) they have no chance!

    Only lasted one day as injury solved the problem of sending the Mick down.

    Sox sacrificed the game to give Gray rest and to reset the rotation for the Orioles series. At minimum the Sox need a split. Orioles would not gain any ground and four more games off the schedule.

    Sox need to make a statement tonight! Don't let the Orioles get the momentum in game one of the series. Orioles need to win three or seep the series, and a loss in game 1 would be vital!

    Cole lost last night to the Astros so Sox will miss him this series, Fried is coming off the injuried list and will be on a pitch count, and Saturday is a double header. Bullpens will play a big role in this series and the Sox should have Whitlock back, a rested bullpen, and Bello pitching in one of the games on Saturday.

    Even if that is the case, wouldn't having Gasper as pitch hitter (from the left side) coming off the bench be a big positive. Plus, he has played first and caught. A third catcher with Rutschman's health in question. It would be a mistake if he is the one sent down.

    You never know what you are going to get from Sandoval. To make matters worse the Yanks rearranged their rotation to throw Schlitter in Game 1. Yanks have a hard time scoring runs, particularly against lefties, so Sandoval just needs to keep Sox in the game and Sox" O "needs to run up the pitch count to get into the Yanks bullpen.

    That is why I avoid typing his name in my posts in hopes that I save his liver. I think his time in Boston may be coming to an end. Basically, he has missed the last two years and who knows how much baseball will be played with the lockout looming! The Sox could have used his power in April, May, and June!

    Good problem to have! Moore players that can help then roster spots. Remember rosters expand to 28 in September. Another thing to keep in mind is who has options left.

    As of today the Sox would pitch Gray, Suarez, and Tolle would be your starters and Bennett and Crochet (If he is back) would be used out of the pen. I saw something today that looks like a potential plan if Crochet makes it back. Would be ideal opener for Bello and an option for a playoff game.

    Yoshida sounds like he might be done for the season. And Slaton and Whitlock are missed and probably cost the Sox the final game of the D-Backs series.

    A healthy Anthony and 2025 Story can help this team. It will make easier to give some of the Sox days off to recharge their batteries for the stretch run. 1B-3B-CF-RF have played a lot over the last couple months and all of them seem to look better hitting after a day off.

    Agree! This is a game which the injuries in the bullpen (Whitlock and Slaten) cost us. I am so done with Weissert.

    Today, against the Jays he pitched to contact. Nice to see him have different approaches based on the lineup he is facing.

    Yes, the Sox could have used another starter to eat some of the innings down the stretch.

    Needs to shut it down! The last injury sounds like he was doing too much too fast. With him being hurt so much the last two years he was trying to get back yesterday.
