With Betts potentially out a couple weeks and your depth tested, the key hitter in your lineup is Devers. The kid was nails last year, but this year he isn’t hitting for power, average or OBP. His defense hasn’t been good, but that’s to be expected. If you’re to hang with NY, Devers has to step up over the next two weeks

I have long since learned to pay no attention to your competitors/'colleagues'/enemies' analysis of how you should run your life.

So you guys are incapable of seeing how your stud kid 3b has sucked this far or debating otherwise? Isn’t that special

He's slumping. So what? I don't really care. We're fine.

We can all read the stats. This is Captain Obvious s***.

Where are your threads on subpar Yankee performers? I haven't noticed any.

I think what he's doing would be called "gloat trolling". It's a Yankees fan thing.

Gloat trolling is exactly what it is.

It's too bad, too, because Jax has a lot of good insights. However, the "gloat trolling" hurts his overall credibility.

This will probably raise the hair on MVP's neck, but anyway....

Knowing you're an old BDC poster you must remember Jete02. He was an anomaly. A Yankees fan with class. His comments were about baseball and never intended to inflate the Yankees or degrade the Sox. Just good baseball talk.

Yea, another thread started by JM of doom and gloom is really testing the limits of his "he's not a troll" status.

They’ve been there for sure. The crazy thing is, our offense leads the league in runs per game and it hasn’t even come close to unlocking its potential.

This thread is about the Sox, though. With Betts out, Holt has been good, but he’s no Betts. If you’re going to get some production elsewhere, the guy who needs to step up is Devers. He’s been an auto out for a month now

No. This thread is about the Yankees and how good they are and how the Sox should be unable to compete with them without Betts. As was said in the OP, "If you’re to hang with NY.....,"

I don't have the history with the OP you guys do so I'll just say I'm a Sox fan who has no problem discussing just how disappointing his season has been and what it has meant. Having the best record in baseball in May does not mean you have no problems and 3rd base is a big problem right now. Teams will simply pitch around JD to get to Devers. Edited by Yaz Fan Since '67

Yet another one of your feeble attempts to convince yourself that the Sox are not as good as the Yankees. If you were truly convinced that your team is 'all that', there would be no need for these types of posts.

Fact: The Red Sox scare you. Big time!

LOL this quote says it all. Things will only get better! Anybody that's struggling is gonna come out of it! Anybody that's hot is gonna stay that way!

Pretty hard to be objective about your own team, ain't it.

You guys are so insecure. Then again, I did generate a discussion on a Saturday morning. Can anyone actually debate Devers performance and some reason you think he will turn around?

WE are insecure? You go to a Red Sox board and continually post about how good the Yankees are now and how they're only going to get better and WE are the ones who are insecure? ROFL!!

I think what you're doing used to be called "Whistling past the graveyard".

LOL

If they're pitching around JD, why does he lead the league in dingers?

This is the first year that they don’t, to be totally honest. They could beat us in the playoffs as nothing is guaranteed, but the yanks are loaded for

bear and capable of winning a title. I haven’t felt like that at the beginning of a season in a long, long time. The fact that the Sox are really good this year is icing on the cake. I love a good pennant race between the two rivals

Devers hit the ball pretty hard last night... for what that's worth.

I worry about his defense, which seems a little better than in April.

His bat will be fine, but there will be bumps in the road along the way.

I was glad we called him up when we did, but we all know he still had some growing to do, and this tough stretch should have been expected.

Devers is very young but has real talent with hand eye coordination and bat speed. He has had problems swinging at balls outside the strike zone but that should improve and he does have commendable raw power. He is being coached and he has Mookie and JDM that are no doubt trying to help him improve.

Coming up through the system Devers was always notoriously a slow starter, although this time it could also be trying to adjust to the league. He's still insanely young, and I have little doubt in time he's going to be a beast at the plate.

Hello, George? Yeah, this is a RS fan, and I ... What? George? He's dead? Holy s***. OK. Well listen, about Reggie, I ... What? ... Why Jackson of course ... What? He's not there anymore? Oh, well listen, about that guy Posada, I ... What do you mean you don't know what I'm talking about? I'm trying to help. Look, I think Rivera should start, and ... What? You're kidding! ...

Thats one way to look at it, isn't it. That Devers is slumping is something we can all agree on. On the other hand, the Red Sox have done pretty well with a slumping Devers and have been in first place most of the year despite that fact. How many games ahead of the Yankees will we be once he snaps out of it?

Thats another way to look at it.

Devers is a 30-40HR bat in development. He is 21, so he has little time in the minors. We'll have to ride this out for the rest of the season.
Posted
He didn’t get much minors time, and if Nunez wasn’t sucking wind, Devers might use a breather there

If Pedey ever reaches a point where he can play 5-6 days a week, Holt & Nunez will be able to give Devers all the rest he needs.

I'm not sure his issue is stamina or endurance. I think pitchers have learned how to get him out, and it's up to him and his coaches to work out a way to adjust. He needs to improve on pitch recognition, but you know, even Papi struggled with flailing at breaking balls in the dirt from time to time.

Most can learn from you moon. Maybe my topic wasn’t the best thought out, but nobody seems to be talking about a pretty glaring weakness in your order. The kid seems to be scuffling with adjustments. The big leagues are all about adjustments. Guys come up, light the world on fire and then pitchers adjust. It’s how you adjust to their adjustments that keeps you in the league. Devers is a legit all star talent, but talent only gets you so far. He needs to adjust and become more of a professional than just a raw hitter.
