I have no clue as to what the Rays are doing with their pitching.

Your guess is as good as mine.

Beeks will be up real soon. He might be their #16 prospect, but Deleon, Banda and Honeycutt are all post TJS this year while Snell is on the DL and Archer is likely to be dealt. Beeks might be their only starter soon!

The sad thing is the ray’s pitching coaches will develop him into something decent because they know how to develop pitchers and all our pitching coaches know how to do is turn starters into relievers because they can’t throw a change up, but could probably excel with a slider or cutter as a third pitch.

Just saw Beeks line last night , thanks, Wow. That's why it's important to know the competition these kids face in the league they are in. The International League is not a good hitting league. So maybe Mediocre Pitchers will have good stats and games, against bad hitting Prospects. When I see a poor hitting league like the International League, I want to see domination, from Pitchers. Not real good stats, or good performances from Pitchers. They hit the Majors, and they are almost behind a full season, because now its to the best level of hitters.

Here's a stat nugget you might find interesting, Larry:

Rays pitchers home ERA 2.95

Rays pitchers road ERA 4.66 !!!!!

Red Sox pitchers home ERA 3.76

Red Sox pitchers road ERA 3.34 !!!!!

So are Rays pitchers actually good or are their numbers simply distorted from pitching in the most run-suppressing park in baseball half the time?

Worth looking into!

Good Point Mr. Bellhorn. That's why I'm always cautious on Pitchers we acquire, from teams like Oakland, and Pitchers Parks like that.

Sonny Gray come to mind?

I think we got one Pitching today for us.

Beeks had a horrific debut for the Rays.
3.1 inn 10 Hits 8 Runs 8 ER 3 BB 1 K

That does qualify as horrendous. So far he has had 3 major league outings and they have all qualified as horrendous.

I don't think much of Eovaldi. He was a hugely hyped prospect for the Dodgers, but has never come close to living up to that hype. He had one decent year for the Yankees.

Good call. After Beeks' start last night, the Rays may become a strictly bullpen rotation. LOL

A short article on Feltman from Baseball America. He is now in Salem. I wouldn't be surprised to see him promoted to Portland before the year is over. The Red Sox need to sign a bridge closer in the offseason--a pitcher who can close for one or two years until Feltman is ready to take over. I was thinking about signing Zack Britton next year and getting a compensation pick for Kimbrel. How much money is Britton going to get? Probably much less than Kimbrel, who will be looking for close to 100M. Would Britton take a pillow contract, a one year (high paying) contract that would set him up to get a long term deal after the 2019 season?

I'm amazed that the Red Sox were able to get such a good prospect in the third round. I don't know why Feltman didn't get drafted sooner.

Feltman, a three-year closer at Texas Christian whom Boston plucked with the 100th pick this year, was described by scouts as a reliever with a chance to fly to the big leagues on the basis of his ability to command two explosive offerings. He pitches at 95-99 mph with a wipeout slider he used to record 43 strikeouts in 24.1 innings as a TCU junior.

From Speier:

While president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski said on Tuesday that Feltman wasn’t drafted with the intention of having him pitch in the big leagues this year, he’s also noted that he’s “open to anything” with regards to a player’s timetable for reaching the big leagues.

For now, however, the mere fact that Feltman has already been promoted to the Carolina League points to the possibility that, even if not in 2018, sooner rather than later, he will be a factor in the Red Sox’ big league bullpen depth.

Maybe Feltman will be ready sooner than expected?

Good just as long as he don't turn into Jake Cosart, who has regressed big time. Went to Portland and hit the Minor League wall, where the competition caught up to his talent.

Does anyone remember the name of the high school kid that got drafted and immediately was a starting pitcher for the Rangers way back when ( '70s )?

Not that it is relevant.

Good just as long as he don't turn into Jake Cosart, who has regressed big time. Went to Portland and hit the Minor League wall, where the competition caught up to his talent.

With Cosart, it was less about the talent he was facing and more about the fact that he could barely hit the k zone. He had an ungodly 7.48 bb/9 in 2017. It's not like he is lighting the world on fire in high A as a 24 year old since he's been sent down either. It doesn't help that his velo has dropped 3 mph.

From SP: Summation: Potential to develop into a seventh-inning reliever if he can continue to refine command and control and develop a secondary offering to compliment his fastball. Unique mechanics provide deception, but also put a tremendous amount of stress on his arm and as a result, greatly increases his injury risk. High-risk prospect with low floor, but some upside if things work out.

Also, Cosart has a brutal, max-effort delivery which features no incorporation of his lower half or extension, instead relying on his lightning-quick arm. Even when he is on, Cosart can have trouble throwing strikes at times.

Hard to really compare Feltman to him at all.
