This kid is something. In his last 10 starts he has a 1.07 ERA. What are they waiting for with this kid, he dominates Single A hitters. PROMOTE HIM! 113 innings and only 13 BB's.

I'm going to keep an eye on Lowell's CF Jarren Duran.

@ClearTheBases

Change of plans: Matt Kent (aka @MK51Baseball ) scheduled @PortlandSeaDogs starter in Trenton, now listed as @PawSox starter for this morning's 11 a.m. game against Columbus. Filling in for Beeks.

Maybe there will be more roster moves to come?

Sea Dogs Roster Moves

Trevor Kelley and Matt Kent to @PawSox Kent starts 11 AM game for Pawtucket.

ADD: RHP Harrison Cooney from Salem…INF Chad De La Guerra activated from the disabled list.

Austin Glorius is still noted as being on Salem's roster, but I'm not sure if that's correct.

Kent so-so today. 5.1 innings, 7 hits, 4 ER's, 1 BB, 6 k's. Losing at the moment 4-2, 7th inning.

Not many good arms to promote from Portland. That roster isn't very good this year. All the good arms are still in Greenville and Salem except for the bullpen arms in Pawtucket.

Fangraphs had this...

Alexander Montero, RHP, Boston Red Sox (Profile)

Level: Short-Season Age: 20 Org Rank: NR FV: 35+

Line: 5 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 7 K, 1 R

Montero’s presence and early success is a welcome sight for one of the worst systems in baseball. He’s a relatively projectable 20-year-old with a three-pitch mix led by a fastball that’s up to 95 mph and a diving split changeup. Montero signed late for an amateur IFA last summer, inking a deal just weeks before he turned 20. He pitched in the DSL last year and was skipped directly to the New York-Penn League this summer after finishing extended.

This was a good call.

Went to this game and this kid looked fantastic.

Come to find out the Sox promoted him up to Salem, bypassed Greenville.

Even Anderson Espinoza didn't get a promotion like this. Holy s***.

Here's their Roster, and there is Montero.

I think this was confirmed to be a paper move, not an actual promotion...that would be nuts. Still, he's been getting great results in Lowell and is definitely one I'm keeping an eye on.

According to updated MLB Pipeline prospect list, Red Sox are the only organization in baseball currently without a prospect in the Top 100.

Thanks Dave!

Montero jumped 2 Leagues in one season. This could be special stuff. When I saw him he was holding his arm, so since then hasn't Pitched, and Promoted. So must not be serious. WHEW! Last Start July 6 he pitched. Edited by OH FOY!

Screw Mazz.

Wasn't Mazz always whining that we wouldn't trade prospects under Cherington? Now he whines that we don't have any? LOL.

In any case he is a whiny little twerp.

Yes he is, but it does suck we have no great prospects.

I'd rather have Sale and Kimbrel.

Beni and Devers are both pretty good young stars IMO. The heart of the ballclub hasn't gone past their arb years. A stocked system isn't required.

I loved the Sale trade, and others too.

I love the team we have now and likely into 2019 or even 2020.

It does not lessen the joy I feel by having concerns about our extended future.

Well, it was something worth reporting.

I wonder how many of our best prospects are even close to top 100.

Beeks was the Sox #6 rated prospect. In the Rays system, he is ranked as their #16 prospect.

I don't believe you.

I'm loving this team and have high hopes for 2019 and maybe 2020.

I'm fine with going for rings at the expense of being not so competitive for a couples years afterward.

While I do think of the future a lot, it does not detract from the now. In a way, it makes the now more enjoyable and important.

Nobody is enjoying this season more than I am!

WOW! Quite a drop-off. 16th Doubt he sees the Majors this year again. Sept. maybe?

Fine. There's no bigger Sox fan in the world than me, and I value rings more than division championships.

I have no clue as to what the Rays are doing with their pitching.

Your guess is as good as mine.
