Rusney Castillo is the smartest Ballplayer ever to come out of Cuba. Pulled the wool right over all the Talent Evaluators eyes on the Sox, who have players in the Majors now, that they evaluated. ha

Minnesota could get more for Dozier. Plus they are only 5 1/2 behind the Guardians; they won’t be in sell mode yet and if they play like they did the 2nd half last year, they won’t be.

Plus they already have a Gold Glove center fielder with multiple years of control...

There's no doubt that JBJ has had his issues at the plate but it seems like the Baseball Gods haven't done him any favors either.

Kimmie posted this a couple of days ago showing that during a two week period between May 20 & June 5 he was hitting .304/.761 with a BAPIP of .438 - which is a little higher than expected.

However, during the next two weeks he hit .103/.385 with a BAPIP of a ridiculously low .074. And during that whole period his Exit MPH has stayed between 94-95 MPH.

That's pretty consistent with what I'm seeing - that he's hitting the ball hard but right at somebody and that's got to be more frustrating for him than it is for us. What he needs is a break or three!

it doesn’t help his productivity that he strikes out 25% of the time. As for the times that he puts the ball in play, I am having a hard time accepting that exit velocity number. While he has hit a few balls on the nose, he had made a lot of very weak contact.

There seems to be something really odd going on with his pitch recognition. I agree that he K's more than I'd like but without trying to figure out how to verify it he also seems to be getting an inordinate # of BB's recently too. I find that surprising because if I'm a pitcher I'm not going to be walking a guy who's hitting <.200.>

He seems to have more HBP than BBs recently. That's because pitchers are going in on him every pitch

Most likely not, but at least we'd have called him up, seen how he still sucks, and we'd have shut up all these Rusney lovers once and for all.

I don't believe DD cares about what people rant about online.

Bradley is certainly an enigma. We know he is better than this , but it just does not seem to be happening this year. I see some folks are searching for any numbers that may offer a bit of hope. But it is still a bottom line game. And the bottom line with Jackie is not good. Still , I don't think trading him at this time would be wise or profitable. Just stick with him and hope for the best.

That Gold Glover, Byron Buxton, has an OPS+ of 7 this year to go with his career OPS+ of 80 while Jackie Bradley has an OPS+ of 56 this year to go with his career OPS+ of 89.

The Minnesota Twins, however, would have defensively elite outfielders who bat from opposites sides of the plate.:)

Rumor out of Cincy is that the Reds get Bradley and Swihart and we get Billy Hamilton. Hamilton is a base stealing machine.

That's not the rumor, it's just what some Reds messageboard is promoting. I wouldn't trade Bradley for Hamilton straight up.

But maybe moonslav does ;)

He definitely does. Here's a 2,000 word post that is 50% copy pasta from baseball ref or fangraphs to tell you why...

I don't see the point of a JBJ/Hamilton swap. That literally solves nothing.

Replace one offensively challenged guy with another. It's basically a dump of Swihart for no reason.

I'd rather have Bradley than Hamilton.

What's the purpose of this trade? To somehow try to downgrade the offense from the CF even more, but without compromising defense? If CF offense is your problem, Billy Hamilton is NOT the solution.

Or maybe DD is trying to dump Swihart?

Honestly, while this trade won't hurt the team much, if DD makes it, he needs to be fired that day...

Yeah, I don't get it. I would take JBJ at his best over Hamilton at his best by far. I don't like it.

Since 2015:

Hamilton - 6.1 fWAR

JBJ - 9.6 fWAR

Since 2016:

Hamilton - 4.8 fWAR

JBJ - 7.7 fWAR

Since 2017:

Hamilton - 1.8 fWAR

JBJ - 2.4 fWAR

That trade just doesn't make any sense to me. And throwing in Swihart just for shits and giggles is weird to me. Wouldn't it be the Reds adding in a prospect to square the deal?

FYI, I rarely copy and paste anything, except quotes from MLBTR or soxprospects.com.

My stats are compiled by hand and my own research.

Hamilton is a FA in 2020.

JBJ is a FA in 2021.

JBJ is the better player (by far) and under team control for an additional year. This makes no sense unless JBJ is a problem behind the scenes or something.

As moon might say, if we trade JBJ right now we're going to miss his hot streak.

JBJ is good for one great month.

2015:

5/10 - 8/8 146 BABIP and 426 OPS

8/9 - 9/7 577 BABIP and 1441 OPS

9/8 - 10/4 173 BABIP and 510 OPS

2016:

4/5 - 5/4 348 BABIP and 792 OPS

5/5 - 5/30 400 BABIP and 1232 OPS

6/1 - 9/30 289 BABIP and 765 OPS

2017:

April - May: BABIP 220 OPS 669

May 30th - July 4th: BABIP 412 OPS 1029

July 5th - Sept: BABIP 263 OPS 598

2018:

3/29 - 6/19 BABIP 238 OPS 576

We're at almost a full 12 months of the most recent cold streak. :(

Previous hot streaks: August, May and June. He's due for a July hot streak!!!

Maybe the Sox are trying to cash in on the success of the recent musical....

If they need a bunch of suburban soccer moms to show up at Fenway, this is a good way to do it.

trading jbj for Hamilton is beyond stupid. we get a shittier player with less team control, and give up another player in the deal for no reason. hard pass

Hamilton's name came up because a Reds poster on their web site brought it up along with a couple of other trades I didn't even mention. I don't think any posters here were serious about that particular trade. On the other hand, JBJ's just snake bitten at the plate and continues his downward spiral. I see CF as our second weakest position at this point. How long can you keep a good fielder in the lineup that can't hit even 200? We probably have one move we can make. If Pedey is truly not able to make it back then we need to shore the position up. Hernandez is a possibility but probably not this year, otherwise, there are some candidates on the market. If JBJ continues his hitting funk into the ASG (1/2 season), we also have a problem to solve. Which area do we try to improve or do we stand pat? I think we make a move and get the best deal at one of those two positions.

Does that mean they can finally get rid of Sweet Caroline?
