Apparently WEEI online doesn't have it either. How is it that I'm living around Boston and I can't watch or listen to a Red Sox v. Yankee game?

*sigh*

Padilla had two very good innings. Looks like the competition for the pitching jobs on the 25 man roster is heating up.

No doubt.

McDonald continues to rake. The man has had a nice ST so far.

He had a really rough 2nd inning last time out.

I know. He had no movement on his fastball and left everything out over the middle of the plate. Tonight was completely different. His off speed pitches were lively he looked like he had better command of his fastball. One has to expect such fluctuations in the Spring . The important thing is that he was better tonoght. That is progress. Now with him it is more a question of whether he can contol his emotions and temper than his fastball.

I think Padilla, Miller and Dubront will stick. They'll want about 7 starters, and keep the extras busy in the bullpen.

The game was on MLB channel. They cover the Red Sox a lot--as well as the Yankees, of course. But the Sox are getting a surprising amount of coverage.

I'm a Bobby Valentine fan and have made no bones about it. I think the Red Sox needed to have a manager who wouldn't be afraid to take it to the opposition and give clubs like the Rays, Angels and other speed teams a taste of their own medicine. We should have a good hitting team this season, but we won't be held hostage to the two run homer and a station-to-station philosophy. We have the means to play a running game, to bunt, to hit and run, to take the extra base, to lay down a squeeze bunt once in awhile and, most importantly, to keep the opposition on their toes and guessing all the time as to what we might do. I just feel there is a different feel to the team this season. BTW, Doubrant straightened out after a bad first inning and did fine---and so did Padilla this time out. Plus we won.

Boxscore said Tazawa K'd 3' date=' did he look good?[/quote']

He had good movement, but wasn't facing MLB talent that inning. He basically struck the 2nd guy out with 3 curveballs out of the zone. The last out was a guy who has been in the minors for 11 years.

We know that Doubront has major league stuff and poise on the mound. The hurdles for him are consistency and durability. Last night was a good night. He needs to build on it.

Agreed. Pitching four decent innings last night is a good start for him in the right direction. Last night is a good example as to why we need Aceves in the pen though. I am hoping he can concentrate on getting his pitch count down. I know the Yankees are very disciplined at the plate. I am just happy he gave up no runs. Padilla also had good results. Maybe he could thrive in a bullpen role if Doubront earns the 5th spot?

ig Red Sox fan here.

We go to Ft myers every year for a week.

This year is the week of March 18 to 24th.

Usually we had gotten tickets by standing in line a couple of hours on game day.

That was at City of Palm Park.

I need 2 tickets, for each of the 3 games next.

Being a new stadium, and dont my way around yet.

anybody been there yet?

I'll be there next week too. There are usually some tickets available at the box office on the day of the game-- about 3 hours before game time. That's the way it was at City of Palms Park. You should call the Box Office to confirm the info. The Yankee game will be a tough ticket.

Both Bowden and Tazawa had good velocity' date=' Bowden was clocked at 94 on one of his fastballs and I think Tazawa hit 93.[/quote']

It would be nice to develop some relievers not named Bard and Papelbon. Basically, everyone else has fail under Francona. It seems most other clubs can bandage a bunch of nobody and put up good stats. The Sox bullpen brought guys like Gagne, Jenks, Wheeler at around $20M to see them produce nothing. What a waste.

Okajima?

Delcarmen was good for a couple of years.

Good for two years each' date=' then fall off the wagon. Both are out of baseball today.[/quote']

Okajima was very good for three years, Delcarmen two. Given the volatile nature of relievers, this is not surprising at all.

You can't mention Bard (who's been a reliever for exactly three years) as one of the best relievers of the Tito era and not mention Okajima.

I'm starting to feel like there is no way our pitching staff is going to be as dreadful as last season. Based on everything I have seen in spring training, and if Carl Crawford can come back and have a CC type year, there is no way we will be worse off than last season.

All we need is Jacko to chime in with you so the hex will be in place.

Doubront was very shaky in the first inning. He threw a lot of pitches and walked 2 batters. After that' date=' he settled in and looked very good. [b']Hopefully, he can build on this and be the Red Sox version of 2011 Nova.[/b]

I've made this comparison quite a few times, and everytime, I get hammered for even thinking it's possible.

I'm with you. I think he'll develop into the 2011 version of Nova and be a huge key to the season.

Don't take it personal if someone disagrees with you on that. You have an opinion and you are sticking to it. If Doubront has a good year and does his job, everyone is going to remember that you were the guy that had faith in Doubront from day 1. Doubront could be a huge reason why we could be successful this year if he proves to be a quality starter in the 5th spot.

McDonald went 2 for 2 with a homer and double. He is doing solid this Spring. I am assuming he makes the opening day roster. If he does, hopefully he can keep this up and be a decent 4th OF offensively until Crawford comes back. Bard did horrible today, he needs to get that out of his system before the season starts. Is anyone watching the game on tv? I am not watching the game, but I want to know what happened with Bard. Also, Aceves gave up a run in four innings, how did he look?

Bard had a very bad outing:

The final line on Bard: 2.2 IP, 6 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 4 BB, 1 K. 66 pitches, 34 strikes.
