Don't feed the troll. Jacksonian comes to these threads with the exclusive intent of busting balls.

Yeah, he kind of proved that by claiming Bard sucked hard in a start where he gave up 3 runs in 5 innings.

...and could have gone another going by how strong he looked the last couple of innings.

He's taking a bit longer to settle in, but I'm sure most of that is due to his recent conversion.

There are going to be hiccups in this process, and I think some people here realize that, while others are holding their breath with their finger on the panic button already.

Grapefruit League Game 19: Yankees at Red Sox

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff March 22, 2012 10:22 AM

Here are the lineups:

RED SOX (9-7-2)

Ellsbury CF

Pedroia 2B

Youkilis 3B

Gonzalez 1B

Ortiz DH

Ross LF

Sweeney RF

Shoppach C

Aviles SS

Pitching: RHP Aaron Cook followed by RHP Ross Ohlendorf, LHP Jesse Carlson, RHP Scott Atchison, RHP Chris Carpenter.

YANKEES (10-9)

Gardner LF

Granderson CF

Jones RF

Chavez 3B

Ibanez DH

Laird 1B

Gil C

Pena 2B

Bernier SS

Pitching: RHP David Phelps.

Game time: 7:05 p.m.

TV / Radio: NESN, ESPN, YES / WRKO

Notes: The Sox have lost three straight. After tonight, they have 12 exhibition games left including a split-squad doubleheader on Saturday. ... Cook has thrown 5.1 scoreless innings in his two starts, both against the Orioles. The veteran sinkerballer probably doesn't have time to get ready for Opening Day but he is presenting himself as an option at some point. ... Phelps has thrown 7.2 innings without allowing an earned run. He did take the loss against the Red Sox on March 13 in Tampa when he allowed an unearned run. Phelps was 7-7, 2.99 in 23 starts in the minors last season.

The first time we faced off in Spring Training, there were no earned runs scored. I expect the outcome tonight to be much different. Look to see a high scoring game.

With 2 starting pitchers like this yes, it should be a high scoring game. I have night class tonight. Sad I'm missing this one!

I was interested to see how Miller would do out of the stretch. He threw 2 pitches -- 1 that almost went to the backstop- and left with an injury. There was nothing of interest to me thereafter so I left.

As I said earlier, I don't think much of Sweeney. He doesn't seem to bring very much to the table. I'd prefer DMac to get the nod if it comes down to the 2 of them.

Here are my impressions of the new JetBlue Ballpark. There's more parking and more varied food concessions. There's more room to walk around outside of the stands, so it is less congested and less crowded. I like the Fenway feel inside the ballpark. It comes pretty close to the real thing. Like Fenway, there are no ondeck circles, so they really paid attention to the details on the field.

Now for the bad points. Unfortunately, the Fenway feel doesn't stop at the field. The seats are small just like Fenway. My brother (who has lost 20 lbs since last season) and I felt considerably more cramped than we did at City of Palms Park. Today, we asked some other people who have been season ticket holders for many years and they agreed about the cramped small seats. City of Palms had a broad walkway between the box seats and the grandstand. There was a high retaining wall at the bottom of the grandstand seats, and it provided nice standing room views of the game all around the park. If you went to the bathroom or the concessions, you could watch the game standing against that wall without going up the aisle in the middle of the inning and blocking views or making people stand to let you into your seat. Last night, I came back from the bathroom and I returned with 2 outs in the inning. Rather than disturb people, I figured that I would stand until the 3rd out. Unfortunately, the retaining wall in front of the grandstand seats is very low and people standing or walking in the aisle will block the view of the front row of the grandstand. I know now to never buy the first row in the grandstand. This is a very unfortunate design mistake IMO. Finally, the handicapped parking area is a joke. It is too far from the park entrance and the dirt field makes it very difficult for people in wheel chairs. I miss the tall palms at City of Palms Park, but there are a good number of palm trees at the new venue that I hope to see rise to the same heights.

All in all, it is a great deal of fun.

Good stuff Ted.

Thanks.

No vodka? What is the world coming to? That's like me having no beer!

What happened???? I had to minimize the window because my boss popped up.

Pedroia got hit in the forearm with a pitch. He swung so he was out though. He's out the game now

Ahhh....I was drinking too much vodka. Not anymore. I only have rum here now and I only drink rum as a mixed drink, not shots. I'm trying to take much better care of myself so my wife -to - be won't worry or get pissed.

She's worth the sacrifice.:)
