Also, the 8 year $50M deal for Rafaela that runs through 2031 is looking better and better. I also think Bello's can establish some value remainder of the year. A $9M for next 3 years plus option doesn't sound outrageous for a team desperate for starting help.

Getting just one of these three asks would be a miracle.

I'm thinking maybe Bres thinks he has nothing to lose at his point. Maybe?

The worst thing he can do at this trade deadline is to nickel and dime and us not get into the playoffs. It's time for him to do something he's uncomfortable.

The Mets are not moving Soto, and, no, they are not selling everything off to rebuild.  They didn’t jack up the payroll to $350mill just to see if it worked for a year.  The Mets will try to improve by dumping the underperforming players, not the performing ones..

As the other Elvis would say…

Less than zero!

I used to suggest getting Singer or Mitch Keller, but Singer's boat has passed.

5.17 FIP is a big YIKES!

Singer's 5.17 FIP

Singer: 4.35 ERA/5.17 FIP

Dustin May at the 2025 deadline: 4.85/4.79

I'm not dead against someone like Singer, but we'd essentially need him to improve for him to be much help. Of course, he'll cost less because he is not doing all that great.

After a poor start to the year, Singer posted a 3.08 ERA in June and a 2.37 ERA in July. He is pitching extremely well and has been a durable innings eater. He pitches in a hitter friendly park. He is a UFA so should be cheap. This is the same forum that thinks Seth Lugo and his over 5.00 ERA in the last 2 months and on the hook for 20M next year should be our top target. C'mon now. lol

I would adjust your thinking. NYM is not trading Soto for a package headlined by Roman Anthony. It would take our entire farm system.

I like Adell.  A straight trade for Duran could solve a couple of problems.

I wouldn't hate it, but not sure he moves the needle much either. I think we could do better for RH LF if we are committing to someone beyond this year. But straight up for JD? Sure, why not.

That is encouraging for Singer. Thanks for that info. I wasn’t aware.

I never said he was. Isn’t Siegler/Romy our current 2B pairing? Am I missing something?

Scherzer I thought could be an interesting throw-in to open games for Bello and pitch 2 or 3 innings tops And be a strong presence in the clubhouse. I’m certainly not dying for him nor would I expect a lot from him. His Era looks bad after a tough start and being injured most of the year, but I still see some a little value there.

Either way, I’m leaning towards Brady Singer as my top SP target as far as bang for your buck.

and what do you expect to have to pay for Singer

Boston says no.  Or they better.  Mayer for two players with a combined age just weeks shy of 80?

Meh, you gotta give to get. I would give JD and Marcy for Springer at this point IF that is what the Jays asked for. Scherzer was just a fun throw-in I thought could be worth a shot to open for Bello, and would be good in the clubhouse either way. I don't actually care about getting him.
Mayer is a few years removed from being a good prospect. He has shown so far he cannot stay on the field, and when he is on the field he sucks. I am entirely ready to cut our losses on him for someone that can help us right now.

I am thinking a pitching prospect in our 10-15 range? Phillips, Holobetz, Uberstine, or Mullins. Their choice. And maybe another mid-level chip. Do you think that would get it done?

i am not familiar with Singer but his numbers this year dont look good at all.  unless it is a lower non pitching prospect i'd pass.  He seems like nothing more than depth to me.

Probably.

Singer isn’t having a great year, and is FA after the season.

I like the idea of sending Mullens, who is Rule 5 eligible after the season.  Uberstine and Holobetz both might be needed this year.

Phillips seems like a lot, but he definitely gets the job done.  Hey, sometimes you overpay…

That’s all I am hoping for.  The Sox have the arms, but the fear is that Bennett and Tolle lack durability.  I am just hoping for someone to lighten their load…

I think you are correct, Nick.  Bello is establishing some value as shown in LA last night.   I am guessing Craig B is getting calls where Bello is asked about.  BUT,

Given the Sox overall position and sights on the playoffs, Breslow will not deal Bello now

some extra depth would be nice wouldn't be mortgaging our future for a guy like this.  i really dont think this is our year to really contend for a WS . I wasn't a fan of trading Early either and that was before Mead got hurt.

I see that Frank Arias has been playing second base.

Is he being auditioned for other clubs showing his versatility or is he getting readied to play second base for the Sox?

It’s not ridiculous.  I’m still a believer in Mayer, but Morejon is a huge get…

They do that all the time in the minors. Mayer played some other positions than SS. Arias played 5 games at 2B in Portland, so don’t look to much into it like it’s an any kind of audition.

Look closer. And a depth SP is literally what we need. We aren't getting an all-star.

I would try and get it done without Phillips, but if that is what it took, so be it. We have a ton of pitching prospects/depth and at least 4 good starters locked in for the next several years. Uberstine is the most likely to contribute this year if we need it, but for an established starter we can plug into #5, he is expendable for me. But yeah, Mullens would def be my first offer.

No one is mortgaging the future for Singer. lol. But he is exactly what we need right now.

If SD agrees to this trade, we do it everyday and twice on Sundays.

Agreed.  The Mets aren't rebuilding.  I doubt that they trade Lindor, but that's possible.  But they have no reason to move Soto.

Adell has an extra year.  And I think he'd make a good DH platoon and a good #4 OF.

No chance I'd do it.  I like Morejon, but he is not elite and is a 2-month rental.  I think Mayer will fetch someone quite a bit better.
